We are so glad you’ve chosen to worship with us this week! Hearing assistance devices are available for the Sanctuary. Please see an usher to obtain these aids. Enjoy fellowship, coffee, and snacks in the Family Life

Center Gym between worship services.

Our Vision Christ-centered, multigenerational, family and community relevant ministries

through worship, discipleship, and mission.

Our Mission REACH, TEACH, and SEND

We REACH out to our congregation, community, and the world to TEACH the word of God as provided in the Holy Scripture, and SEND our members and missionaries to be witnesses to God’s grace and His promise of eternal

life to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Worship Services Break Free

Our Saturday evening service begins at 6:00pm in the Family Life Center. This transformational service involves modern music, multimedia, and a style of preaching that is practical and participatory.

Traditions

At 8:00 and 11:00am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we celebrate through the rich traditions of our faith such as hymns led by organ and piano, seasonal vestments, and traditional Methodist liturgy. Our Chancel Choir leads the 11:00am service.

Connect

At 9:30am Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary we engage in a four-fold service of gathering praise, service of the Word, Holy Communion with candle stations for prayer, and sending forth. The music is a blend of contemporary praise songs and upbeat hymns.

Freedom

At 11:07am Sunday mornings in the Family Life Center Gym we worship through modern music, multimedia, and a teaching style message in a non-traditional atmosphere. We come to God as we are to experience the freedom of not having to stay that way.

Welcome to Shalimar UMC

Philip’s Focus

Joy in Jesus and a Joyous Church

One of my favorite parables is only one sentence long! Jesus shared about the man who became so excited when he found treasure in a field. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field” (Matthew 13:44). What a simple yet profound parable. A man gave up all he had for the JOY of the treasure. The joy of the Kingdom of Heaven is like that! When we give all we have to Jesus, we experience unbridled JOY. Such is the Kingdom of God. The presence of JOY is one of the most endearing qualities of a church. We are inspired in the presence of joy. JOY is contagious. One person’s JOY is quickly caught by another. Joy does not even have to wait until everything is perfectly aligned. In fact, we can know joy even when there is adversity. Dick Wills says “The presence of joy comes from walking with Jesus not circumstances.” The JOY we know in the midst of difficulty is even sweeter. Jesus’ joy can be known in all seasons. Our life and breath as a church is fueled by the JOY of salvation, walking with Christ, and the promise of Paul in Roman’s 8:28 “knowing all things work together for good to them that love the Lord!” JOY is one of the greatest fruits of the Spirit and ignites the Church for fruitful ministry. This joy of walking with Christ is possible in all circumstances. Shalimar UMC, let us be a church of unbridled joy! When God’s people are joy-ous, their witness draws others in to know the joy of the Lord. May the joy of the Lord be in all of us as we are the church! We are at our best when we walk in the JOY of the Lord. May the JOY of Christ be with you all and in you all! Shalom, Philip

Our Vacation Bible School mission was a huge success so thank you to all of our helpers! Teaming with Tanzania offered a chance for the children to be bold and write letters to the Bishop. They told of their prayers for him and their support to build a new church in Tanzania. Bishop Graves loved his letters from the children and was so moved he sent this letter in return.

CHECK IT OUT!!!

“The time has come, the Walrus said, to talk of many things” (The Walrus and the Carpenter, by Lewis Carroll). And indeed, there are at least several things to lift up to you

from the Library.

We need children’s books in good condition to share with kids at our upcoming Back to School Bash on August 4. Drop them off at the Library anytime during office hours!

Kindly look for “forgot to return” library books and/or DVD’s and drop them off no

questions asked! I am especially looking for the DVD “The Case for Christ.” It’s summer spruce-up time, so if you can spare an hour or two these next two weeks to

help, please contact me at [email protected]. You may just leave with a book or two for your own library!

We ALWAYS have Bibles and devotionals to give away. Being able to GIVE to

someone can be a way to disciple others. Let’s get together about that! In the meantime, if you just need some summer reading or DVD watching, CHECK US OUT!

What would you choose: Diapers or Gas?

A family who came to our SUMC mission outreach for children in need was faced with this dilemma. Because of our church family’s support, we were able to give those diapers to a very appreciative mother and have been able to provide for over 100 children since our January 2019 opening. Each week we hear similar stories and with your help can continue to meet those needs in any of the following ways:

Volunteers are needed to serve one Wednesday afternoon (11:30 - 3:45 p.m.)

every month. The 3rd Sunday of each month is an opportunity to donate the items that we

share with children ages newborn through 5th grades. A complete list of the

items we share can be found at sumc.io/blessings, but diapers, wipes, toilet paper, and toothpaste are always needed! You can also drop donations off every Wednesday afternoon at the #10 2nd Street house behind the church.

Please consider a financial contribution to SUMC and designate it for Blessings

for Children and we’ll shop for needed items. Do you speak Spanish? Please help us translate our “always asked” questions

into so we can better communicate with our Spanish speaking families. Pray for this ministry!

Blessings for Children is making a difference because our church family said “yes” to reaching out to children in need and their families to share and connect

them with the love and hope of God.
