PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Okay, I am very confused at this point

this season. Is it Spring or is it turning

back into Winter? This has been the most puzzling

few weeks here lately. It seems Mother Nature

waited all winter before sending us the winter

weather! I don’t know whether to get ready for

warm weather or still bundle up in lots of sweaters!

I’ve about had it! So I’ve just decided it is Spring

and to ignore the few more days of cold that are

bound to happen. I’ll get out the pretty florals and

light colors and motivate myself right into Spring.

(This motivation will last as long as I don’t have to

cancel another meeting for snow!)

Lorraine has lined up a great appliqué program and

workshop for this month. Be sure to check out her

program article in the newsletter to find out all

about it! We also have a representative from the

Beach Cites Quilting Guild visiting us with their

opportunity quilt. I’m sure you’ll want to see their

quilt and buy a chance or two on it.

Well I truly hope we will have a meeting this

month and I will be able to see you all there.

Until then, keep those sewing machines

humming. Carol Henderson

L I B R A R Y N E W S Greetings and Good News! You were promised

advanced notice (minimum one -- preferably two months)

so we're announcing now, and you are cordially invited…

LIBRARY B O O K S A L E - COMING SOON

To be held at monthly Guild meeting/in June--yes, June 18th, 2012 in our Library room.

Limited shelf space means each book MUST find a new home---or---face a dumpster death.

books priced so you’ll buy a handful.

Books for sale include: multiple copies, vintage/out-dated, maybe a few non-quilt topics, and

a group donated having a musty aroma. (Tips to remove odors from book??? see below.)

Books will be sold in June; unsold books will be given away in July; remaining books will be trashed.

So please come, look, brain-storms. You may not want a book, but you may know someone who

does. All you “outside-the-box-thinkers” -- for the books left in July….maybe you know someone,

anyone, who can use parts...such as a scrap-booking group who’d enjoy vintage photos and like to

experiment with old books, etc.

Price Range??? Tentative Pricing Proposed: If a book: merits include: recent publication, full

-color, highly informative, user-friendly, expensive, excellent condition, and is a duplicate (no

odor) it may command $5.00. All other books priced lower. Being a bunch of $1.00, one dollar bills,

and quarters...I’m sure you’ll be pleased.

Proceeds?? Each book sold will give a little boost to our library’s $100.00 a year budget. So

your patronage is greatly appreciated.

In closing… a heartfelt thank you to Carol Henderson, Marilyn Birdwell, and my library

partner Jeanne Wallace. These dear and special ladies have given of their time, shared information

and suggestions and worked not only reopen, but to make our library more organized and more us-

er...friendly for all us.

My phone number is 909-584-1716. I do not have a computer. If you need to reach me,

please call. If you get the recorder, be sure to leave your name and phone number, and feel free to

leave a detailed message mentioning our quilt guild. My memory is getting as fussy as an old-time

peach….so if you don’t hear back from me in a couple days...please give me a reminder call.

Tips to remove back odors?? Both tips are from Board Members...thank you ladies. One tip is

to try Febreeze. The other tip, Carol Henderson researched for us on the internet: Tuck 2 or 3 dryer

sheets inside each cover and through-out the book and enclose book in a zip lock bag for 3 to 4 days.

Check the book. If order remains reseal bag for 2 to 3 days. Order should be gone.

Remember we are your lending library.. so come in and check our selection: See you soon,

Carol Sterling and Jeanne Wallace

COMFORT QUILTS

Even though we didn’t have a guild

meeting last month, I received several

comfort quilt donations. Special recognition

goes to Karen Sunseri and the gang over at

Patchworks for their efforts! Karen has

been especially supportive of our project as

she encourages her beginning quilter

students to practice their skills while work-

ing on a comfort quilt. Thank you, ladies!!

We continue to donate quilts to both Doves

(about 50 x 70) and Meals on Wheels (about

42 x 58), and your contributions are greatly

appreciated. Please help us by taking home

a fabric bundle and stitching up some quilt-

ed hugs for someone in need. I always have

batting available too, so contact me if you

need anything for your 2012 Comfort Quilt

project. 909-806-0436

WOUNDED WARRIORS There’s nothing much new to

report about our Wounded Warrior

project this month – I missed seeing

everyone last time because of our

weather cancellation! I still have

several of the little red-white-and-blue

scrap bags, so if you’re planning to make

some blocks for our project be sure to

pick one up. One complete kit is also

available, which contains blocks, sashing,

backing and binding fabrics. If you can

assemble it for us, please contact me.

I hope we’ll get a huge stack of donat-

ed blocks at our upcoming April meeting

since we’ve had an extra month to work

on them! Drop your 12 ½”

patriotic blocks in the red basket on

the Comfort Quilts table. We’ll put

them all together to make heartwarming

quilts for our injured soldiers in

Afghanistan.

Thanks for your support!

FOOD PANTRY

Let’s do fruits and vegetables this month!

Please bring a can of fruit, soup, or vegetables,

or a bottle of juice to replenish the supplies in

the church food pantry. Thank you for

supporting the families who need

help here in Bear Valley!

And don’t forget that we are always

happy to accept you pop-top rings

for Ronald McDonald house!

THANK YOU!

IT’S GREAT TO BE A NEW MEMBER ! I want

to thank Janet Walz and Bonnie Snell for the

wonderful gathering held at Janet’s house for some

of the new members of the Guild, way back on the

snowiest February day of the year. And to think I

valuated about whether or not to go, since the white

stuff was flying around quite dramatically. What I

would have missed? A wonderful, right out of

Norman Rockwell, experience as we sat around the

table eating goodies, watching the snow fall and

sewing (in my case, learning to sew) a blanket stitch

on little mitten blocks. The very clever crossword

puzzle by Bonnie taught me a lot about the Guild and

I just happened to be the winner of the contest to

finish the puzzle fastest. Of course, I cheated! An

yes, I admitted that I peeked at my neighbor’s

puzzle for answers—and I still won a prize of a cute

mitten appliquéd potholder! Cheaters do prosper! (:

Even though I cheated, I hope you will invite me

again to another new member gathering. I don’t even

mind if it snows. Unlike poor Carol Sterling, I have 4

wheel drive!
