The Pub at White PinesWhite Pines Golf Club & Banquets will be debuting their new pub style bar and restaurant this spring. Come experience the new food and spirits menu which will offer fresh and healthier food choices and a variety of wine and craft beer. This transformation include a 12-seat bar with adjacent high top tables. The current operation will be a destination that will serve lunch and dinner year-round. Vietnam Memorialcomes to townThe Wall That Heals, the traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be on display in Bensenville June 20-23 at Redmond Park. The Wall will be open to the public around the clock from Thursday, June 20 through Sunday, June 23. Many volunteers are still needed to assist visitors to the Wall and to keep vigil around the clock, please call 630-766-8888 to volunteer.

Food pantry opento families in needThe Bensenville Wood Dale Food Pantry is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Faith United Church of Christ, 192 S. Center Street.

Families from the Bensenville/Wood Dale area may come once per month. All families are accepted with a proof of residency.

Congratulations to the Fenton Dance Force on winning the IDTA Class AA Hip Hop Championship for the second consecutive year. The team also placed third in the Pom/Dance category. Victoria Parenti placed 15th out of 45 dancers during the solo competition. The members of the Dance Force are pictured below with their trophies and Coaches Payton and Snyder.

2013 Wall of Fame Inductess Honored On March 21, HGTV host, Monica (Mcgee) Pederson, Class of 1988, and global philanthropist, Nick Falco, Class of 1983, were inducted into the Fenton Alumni Wall of Fame.

Monica is a highly recognized interior designer and television host of over 140 episodes of Designed to Sell and Bang for your Buck on HGTV. In addition, she is the host if HGTV’s Dream Home and Green Home Giveaways and House Hunter’s Great Escapes. In 2012, she released her first book Make it Beautiful. She also volunteers her time to the LOSS Program of Chicago sponsored by Catholic Charities.

Nick Falco has committed over 26 years to global charitable outreach for those in need. He is the executive director of the MDTR Foundation and vice president of Kids Around the World. His work with both organizations has raised and distributed over $25 million to those in need around the world. In November 2012, Nick brought Kids Around the World to Fenton High School where he organized students to pack of 57,000 meals for children in Margibi, Liberia.

The Fenton Alumni Wall of Fame was established in 1995 by the District 100 Board of Education and honors the achievements and contributions of the school’s most outstanding alumni. Special Olympics Basketball Team Wins State Title

Congratulations to the Fenton High School Special Olympics co-ed basketball team on winning the Division 4 High School State Competition. The tournament was held at the Horton Field House on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington March 15-16. The team defeated Southside 31-25 in the first round of competition and Waubonsie Valley 50-36 to win the state title. This is the third consecutive year that the team has qualified for the state competition and their first title.

District 2 Principal Madelyn Di Rienzo-Devers notified the Board of Education March 20 that she intends to retire at the end of the school year after a 35-year career as an educator.

Mrs. Di Rienzo-Devers was an outstanding principal at Mohawk School for 13 years, earning the 2011 National Blue Ribbon Award and the Illinois Spotlight School Award for five years. She worked tirelessly this year to oversee the transition of Mohawk community into the new Johnson School, serving as principal of both schools.

“My career in education has been

most fulfilling, especially the past 13 years as principal. The years have been filled with students, families, and staff members that have enriched my life in so many ways. I will always look back with fondness,” Mrs. Di Rienzo-Devers said.

The District has hired a search firm to assist in finding co-principal candidates to replace Mrs. Di Rienzo-Devers next school year. A team consisting of teachers, administrators, parents and board members will interview candidates this spring. The new co-principals of Johnson School are expected to join the District July 1.

Blackhawk Presents ‘Willy Wonka Jr.’

Blackhawk Middle School presents ‘Willy Wonka Jr.’ for the spring musical, with three performances May 17-18 in the middle school auditorium.

The ‘junior’ production features the favorite songs from the Broadway production in a shorter show.

Directed by Doug Orlyk and produced by Tara Kawa, the show involves dozens of students performing on stage and working behind the scenes in what may be their first theatrical production experience.

The jazz band will also perform. Showtimes are 7 p.m. May 17 and 18 with a matinee at 2 p.m. May 18.

Support public art projects at each of the new schools, Tioga and Johnson, and preserve your family name in history by purchasing special Legacy Bricks.

Construction on the second addition of Tioga School is set to begin in May after the Board of Education on April 3 approved the first round of contracts for the $10.5 million project.

The new c o n s t r u c t i o n includes a two-story classroom wing, which mirrors the first two wings, and a ‘contemplation bridge’ connecting the new wing to the existing wing on the second floor. The addition will also include a cafeteria and space for a future community room.

Architectural artifacts from the original Tioga School and from Chippewa School will be installed in the cafeteria, around the building and in the courtyard gardens that are located between the classroom wings.

The addition, scheduled to be open for students in August 2014, is funded by a portion of the Illinois Capital Development Grant and existing funds.

Blackhawk Band Earns Highest RatingCongratulations to the 7th and 8th Grade Band at Blackhawk Middle School, directed by Bill Winters, for earning the highest rating at the Illinois Grade School Music Association District Festival March 16. Blackhawk was one of 11 bands performing. They earned the highest of three ratings for their performance, which was judged by music educators. Sixty-five students participate in band.

Five Year Financial Plan is Online The Five Year Financial Plan is in-tended for use as a guide for fund-ing Village government for the next five years.

The Five Year Financial plan is in-tended to provide the community with a long-range projection of the financial condition for each of the 20 funds that comprise the financial structure of the Village of Bensen-ville. The Five-Year Plan assumes the continuation of current service levels and being able to maintain those service levels in the future. The forecast provides a foundation for discussion and policy decisions that will be made in the future to maintain the existing service lev-els and/or enhance service levels in specific areas.

As part of our efforts to reduce waste the Five Year Financial Plan exists only as an electronic docu-ment and can be found at www.bensenville.il.us. A new document viewing tool provides high-quality, easy-to-load documents.

LibertyFest & 4th of July ParadeOur Independence Day Parade will step off at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4 from Town Center. The parade, featuring some of the best bands, floats, and enter-tainment from around the region, will end at Redmond Park where Libertyfest will be held from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.

There will be live entetainment throughout the festival, followed by a fireworks spectacular at 9:30 p.m. that will light up the night sky. A map of the parade route and a complete list of activities will be posted on the Village website, www.bensenville.il.us. Spring Brush Pick upFrom April through November, Allied Waste will remove individual branches that are less than 3 feet in length and 1 inch in diameter on regular trash collec-tion days. Branches and brush should be placed in biodegradable paper bags or garbage cans with two “Yard Waste Only” labels attached. Allied Waste collects these branches with other residential yard waste. Bundled brush and branches will not be collected.

Unbundled brush and branches will be collected from single-family residences four times this year by Village staff. For collection, brush must be placed at the curb for collection in neat, manageable piles no later than 6 a.m. on Monday of the scheduled removal week. Place the cut ends of brush and branches facing the street. Individual branches must not exceed 6 inches in diameter or 10 feet in length. Please do not bundle brush and branches. Root balls cannot be col-lected. To discard root balls, place small ones inside of the trash container and larger ones next to your container. You may place brush on the parkway for col-lection beginning the Friday before the scheduled collection week. Please note that each street will receive a single collection during a scheduled week and that placing brush or branches out after the deadline can result in a citation and no service. The current brush collection program has been increased in 2012 to four pickups. The final spring pickup is:

Bensenville Launches New Mobile AppThe new Village of Bensenville Mobile App is a resource for Bensenville news and alerts, local attractions, Village services, and recreational information. It also contains a calendar of events and a system for reporting Village mainte-nance issues. It is a great way to stay connected with the village anyhwere you go. The new App is available for both Apple and Android products and can be downloaded from the village website, www.bensenville.il.us and by clicking on the App icon on the lower left side of the screen. It is also available for down-load from iTunes and GooglePlay.

Police AuctionUnclaimed PropertyUnclaimed property, such as bikes, tools, and other personal property, will be sold by public auction at the Bensenville Police Department, 100 N. Church Road, on Saturday, June 22. The viewing will start at 9 a.m. and the auction will begin at 10 a.m. Sale of all property must be paid for in cash by the highest bidder.

Camps! Begin June 10

Youth Golf at White Pines

The Bensenville Park District Day Camp Program offers a noncompetitive atmosphere where youngsters can socially interact and participate in a variety of activities. Kids 6-10 will enjoy either Adventure Camp or Sports Camp and children 11-15 will like the variety of activities offered at Teen Camp. Parents now have the ability to pick and choose your days each time you register at the Thursday deadline. There is also the opportunity to secure before- and after-camp extended care services for

your child(ren). Ask about our pre-camp days, June 5 through June 7 and make sure to mark your calendars for Camp Open House on Thursday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m.!

Our Camp Mission . . . is to provide a safe and friendly atmosphere where children can make new friends and enjoy a wide variety of activities. The curriculum for all camps will emphasize socialization through age appropriate activities that engage the child’s imagination and creativity.

Introduce your child to the fundamentals of golf. Registration begins May 1. Register at the White Pines Pro Shop. Forms may be downloaded at whitepinesgolf.com.

Civil War Weekend at Fischer FarmBring the whole family to the free Civil War Encampment at Fischer Farm, located at 16W680 Old Grand Avenue, Saturday, June 22, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday, June 23, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Walk with us into the early 1860s and see firsthand what the life of a soldier was like. Walk through the camp, listen to the music, see the horses, hear the guns, and meet the people.
