The book of the Revelation strips back the reality of the things we worship, that aren’t God (Yahweh) and demonstrates the worthiness of the one to whom all worship ought to be given.

I am the LORD Your God.

Have no other gods before me.

Make no graven images or likenesses.

Do not have more than a single ultimate allegiance and do not give ultimate loyalty to any earthly reality –Walter Harrison- The 10 commandments and human rights.

One has as god when a finite value is worshipped and adored and viewed as that without which one cannot live joyfully Thomas C Oden

And make sure your ultimate allegiance is worth it. –Keith Ford today's sermon

Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” 2 At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. 3 And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald.

God- Rev 4

“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honour and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

Lamb- Rev 5

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered— to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing.”

When a finite value … becomes a centre of value by which other values are judged, and has been elevated to centrality and imagined as a final source of meaning , then one has chosen what Jews and Christian’s call a god.- Thomas C Oden

Rev 17:3 There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet

beast that had seven heads and ten horns, and

blasphemies against God were written all over

it. 4 The woman wore purple and scarlet clothing

and beautiful jewellery made of gold and precious

gems and pearls. In her hand she held a gold

goblet full of obscenities and the impurities of her

immorality. .. I stared at her in complete

amazement…9 The seven heads of the beast

represent the seven hills where the woman rules.

19 After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting,

“Praise the LORD!Salvation and glory and power belong to our God.

2 His judgments are true and just.He has punished the great prostitute

who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.”

6 Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder:

“Praise the LORD!For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honour to him.

For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.

8 She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.”For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s

holy people.
