Volume 113 January 4 through January 17, 2015 The Bulletin Taylor Community’s 2015 Music Series
The Taylor Community 2015 Music Series, generously sponsored by Bank of New Hampshire, kicks off at Woodside Sunday, January 11 at 3 p.m. with Pianist Paul Dykstra and Violinist Zoia Bologovsky. These two accomplished New England musicians will play Proko-fieff and Grieg sonatas and Gershwin preludes.
Dykstra performed and taught in West-ern Canada for 19 years and has been teaching in New England since 1999. A member of the College of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Music, and its counterpart in the U.S. – the Music Development Program – he travels and assesses young artists in Canada and the U.S. as well as being a sought-after Festival and Competition Adju-dicator. Dykstra teaches at St. Paul’s School, Concord, and in his private studio in Portsmouth.
Bologovsky graduated from Julliard and has traveling around America and Europe with the Arden String Quartet. Past positions include the Portland and Springfield Symphonies and the Rhode Island Philharmonic. Currently she is Concertmaster of North Shore Philhar-monic, MetroWest Symphony and the
Portsmouth Symphony. Bologovsky is also Principal 2nd violin of Nashua Symphony and PORTopera, and can be found teaching at St. Paul’s School, the Coop-erative Middle School in Stratham and her studio in Stoneham, Mass.
Music Series performances are free and open to the public, with no reservations required.
Singing In the Holiday
What better way to add some holiday spirit than through the voices of children? Taylor Community had the great pleasure of a performance by the Laconia Christian Academy at Ledgeview on December 22. This lovely group sang carols and then spent some time visiting with residents. We think that this charming lad shown below may have a career as a diplomat. He’s surely charmed residents Dean Erb with his hand-shake and Loraine Radice with his hug!

Woodside Neighborhood Christmas Party
Neighbor-to-Neighbor organizers planned a fun get-together for Woodside residents on December 20, their objective being to “get folks in the spirit, get out their decorations, and come together as neighbors.”
The festivities began with an open-house “hallway stroll” with prizes given for Best Decorated Doorway, Best Open Apartment and Best Decorated Scooter, Walker or Cane. Beverley Dubin won the Doorway prize, Joe and Lorraine Picard took the Open Apart-ment prize with an elaborate gingerbread house (it must have taken HOURS!), and Timmie Nolan won the Scooter, Walker or Cane prize. Many other displays were also notable, an historic White House ornament display by Blanche Sleeper, a “Hope Box” with a posi-tive message for each visitor to choose created by Vince Kuharic, and many unique hand-stitched creations and other fun decorations.
Residents later met in the Fireside Dining Room for eggnog, punch, food and a lively Yankee Swap.
The excitement was palpable, the party and its intent a huge success, with several residents remarking that they’d “never seen so many lights and decorations as this year.” All hope for a repeat next year!

Think “Evolution,” Not “Resolution”
You’re once again feeling motivated to eat better, exercise more, drink less caffeine or make any number of the positive lifestyle changes you've been telling yourself you want to make. You've tried before — proba-bly declaring another attempt as a New Year’s resolution — but without feeling much success. Making a life-
style change is challenging, especially when you want to transform many things at once. This time, think of it not as a resolution but as an evolution.
Lifestyle changes are a process that take time and re-quire support. Here are five tips from the American Psychological Association to help you make lasting, positive lifestyle and behavior changes:
1. Make a plan that will stick. When making your plan, be specific. Want to exercise more? Detail the time of day when you can take walks and how long you’ll walk. Write everything down, and ask yourself if you’re confident that these activities and goals are real-istic for you. If not, start with smaller steps.
2. Start small. Break down your goals into small, manageable steps that are specifically defined and can be measured. Is your long-term goal to lose 20 pounds within the next five months? A good weekly goal would be to lose one half to one pound a week. If you would like to eat healthier, consider as a goal for the week replacing dessert with a healthier option, like fruit or yogurt.
3. Change one behavior at a time. Unhealthy behav-iors develop over the course of time, so replacing un-healthy behaviors with healthy ones requires time. Many people run into problems when they try to change too much too fast. To improve your success, focus on one goal or change at a time.
4. Involve a buddy. Whether it be a friend, co-worker or family member, someone else on your journey will keep you motivated and accountable. Perhaps it can be someone who will go to the gym with you or some-one who is also trying to stop smoking.
5. Ask for support. Accepting help from those who care about you and will listen strengthens your resil-ience and commitment. Making the changes that you want takes time and commitment, but you can do it. Just remember that no one is perfect. You will have occasional lapses. Be kind to yourself. When you eat a brownie or skip the gym, don’t give up. Minor mis-steps on the road to your goals are normal and okay. Resolve to recover and get back on track.

Taylor Playreaders
The Taylor Playreaders enter 2015 with plenty of space for newcomers.
Mostly we read plays for our own edification and amusement, and once a year we go public: 2013 seri-ously; 2014 less so. For our 1:00 PM meeting on Mon-day, January 12 in the dry craft room in Woodside, we will undertake Luigi Pirandello's "The Other Son." We have extra anthologies for those who want to join the fun; non-reading audience is appreciated too.
Change to January 23 Trip to Belknap Mill
As the Greenside Restaurant is closed on January 23, lunch will be at the Lyons’ Den Restaurant in Gilford. The pick-up time will remain the same. Thanks!
