Voegele has helped design a commemorative coin to recognize contributions to the construction fund for a statue of county namesake Colonel William Oldham.

Voegele said the 2.25-inch coins will provide a token of appreciation for anyone who has contrib-uted to the statue.

Oldham County Fiscal Court agreed to com-nmision artist Matt Weir to build the statue. It is expected to cost between $128,500 and $134,000. Currently, Voegele has raised $93,000 and sales of the coins may help raise the rest of the funding needed. A minimum donation of $35 is necessary to receive a coin. Colonel Oldham was an officer in the Revo-lutionary War and served as sheriff of Jefferson County, VA., which includes modern day Oldham County. He was among 120 members of the Colo-nial army who marched from Virginia to Boston covering a distance of 600 miles within 23 days. He also served under Geroge Washington at Valley Forge.

Marda has an innate understanding of the body through her years as an athlete, which she combined with a degree from the Wellness and Massage Training Institute to become a body-worker. After several years of practicing massage therapy, she realized many chronic injuries were rooted in dysfunctional movement. This realiza-tion led to additional certifications including: NeuroKinetic Therapy ™, Barefoot Training and Rehab, Rocktape, FMS, Restorative Breathing and Structural Integration. Marda is a board certi-fied, licensed massage therapist. She charges $75/hr for both movement and massage therapy and will tailor your session to best suit your needs.

ADDED SERVICES ATCENTER FOR HOLISTIC HEALING

The Center for Holistic Healing in Pewee Valley is excited to announce they will now be of-fering Functional Movement and Massage Ther-apy. Marda Mills recently joined their team after relocating with her family from Chicago. In Chi-cago, she owned a very well respected Functional Movement and Massage Therapy business. Her added healing modality is a great complement to the services provided at CHH!

Contact her either by phone or text at 630-779-1094 or email her at [email protected] to book an appointment.

Right now we have an Oldham County family with 2 young girls (10 months and 2 years) who are in need of diapers and clothing for the girls. The parents could use food as well. I think we have the little girls covered for Christmas gifts, but in the meantime, they really need help especially with diapers and warm clothes for the girls. I have taken them all the food I had on hand, but they can use whatever we can get them. The girls are wearing size 12 mos and size 2T right now. The diaper sizes they are in are sizes 3 & 4. We always need warm coats, hats, gloves, socks and underwear for kids of all sizes! Items can be dropped off at Town Hall, 312 Mt. Mercy Drive, Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. If you are unable to drop-off, please contact Chief Larimore (640-9664) to arrange for a pick-up.

In June 1969, during John Walser’s term as Mayor, Pewee Valley’s Town Council began the Call of the Pewee, a free monthly newsletter to keep residents informed about what’s going on in our city. It was the brainchild of Courier-Jour-nal reporter and editor Lee Heiman, who was also the Call’s first editor and served as Town Clerk for many years. At the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976, Hei-man was among 12 Peweeans honored by the City of Pewee Valley for his contributions to making Pe-wee Valley a better place to live …We have a certificate for a man who has served as Town Clerk for many years, and among his many other accomplishments, started the “Call of the Pewee” – Lee Heiman. Lee Heiman died in 2010. His obituary ran in the February 2011 Call of the Pewee: Lee Heiman, the originator and first editor of The Call of the Pewee died December 11, 2010 in Al-buquerque, New Mexico. Born in Chicago in 1916, Lee became a long-time resident of Pewee Valley, involving himself in a wide range of civic and com-munity activities while professionally working as a newspaper editor for the Louisville Courier Journal. During his 40+ years here, he was Pewee Valley’s City Clerk for 30 years, active in the early years of The Little Colonel Playhouse and a charter member of the Oldham County Historical Society. The Call of the Pewee was created by Lee (then City Clerk/Treasurer) in June 1969 as the City pre-pared for their 1970 Centennial Celebration… These old issues of the Call are from the City Archives at Town Hall. There are issues and pages missing here and there. A few were clipped, so a picture or article may be missing. Thanks to Pewee Valley Historical Society members Ann Kyser, An-gela Lasseigne, Pat Palmer, June Kramer and Donna Russell for scanning them. Special thanks to Call of the Pewee editor, Paula Kennedy for providing the Historical Society with digital copies of the 2008-2016 issues.

COVER COLLECTING? A First Day Cover (FDC) is an envelope or card bearing a stamp which is cancelled on the day the stamp is initially placed on sale by the postal authorities. Joshua McGee, a postal artist in Pasadena, California created this pictorial railroad cover utilizing Pewee Valley’s “Mail by Rail Station” postmark. This card is for sale on Ebay.

PHONE SCAMS Residents of Oldham County have again begun receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be with the Oldham County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division, stating that they have an outstanding warrant. This person claims there is an outstanding warrant and if the person being called will trans-fer $500 or more onto a pre-paid card purchased at a local store, the warrant will be recalled. Residents are also receiving calls from scam-mers claiming to be with the IRS, stating the per-son owes back taxes and must wire money or be arrested. Another scam occurring in Oldham County are persons calling residents, pretending to be family members in need due to legal problems and asking for money to be wired for bail. These phone calls are scams, The Oldham County Sheriff’s Office or any law enforce-ment agency, including the IRS will never call

by phone and ask for money to be transferred via a credit card, or any other means by phone. The scammer also knew the street address of the Oldham County Sheriff’s Office. The calls were made from a cell phone. Citizens are reminded to never deposit or wire money in this manner to anyone claiming to be law enforcement, a financial institution or otherwise. Personal or financial information should also never be given over the phone or in-ternet. Any contact with these individuals should be avoided and reported to Oldham County Dis-patch at (502) 222-0111. Questions may also be directed to the Better Business Bureau at (502) 583-6546 or BBB.org.
