3SUMMARY OF MAJOR FINDINGS

GeneralObservations:

• Therewasalargedrop-offinresponsesfromthebeginningtotheendofthesummer,bothatSpringHillandtheLutheransites.Thisgreatlyimpactsourabilitytotrackchangeovertime.Somefindingsarenon-significantbecausethenumberofmatchedsurveyswaslowerthanexpected.Thedifficultyincollectingend-of-summerresponsesmayberelatedtostaffburn-out/exhaustion,whichwasanimportantthemeinthesurvey.

• Alargemajority(aboutthree-quarters)ofsummerstaffmembersgrewupasregularchurchattendees(atleastmultipletimespermonththroughoutgradeschool).Mostparticipatedinregularreligiouspractices(e.g.personalprayer,Biblereading,andfamilyprayer),andfaithconversationsinthehomewerenormal(Figures1and2).

• Thevastmajorityofstaffenteredthesummerwithveryhighmeasurementsofbelief,leavingverylittleroomformeasuredgrowth(Figure5).Staffwerealsohighlymotivatedtogrowintheirpersonalfaithduringthesummer(Figure6andpage8).

StaffExperienceandOutcomes

• Moststaffmembersindicatedverypositiveexperiences.Open-endedresponseswereoverwhelminglypositive(pages18-19),andlargemajoritiesagreed(Figure13)thattheygotalongwithfellowstaffmembers(94%)andfeltsupportedbysupervisors(84%).Mostalsoindicatedthatcampfeltlikehometothem(85%agreed).

• Theexperienceofworkingonstaffwasalsoveryimpactfultotheserespondents:97%ofreturningstaffagreedatthebeginningofthesummerthattheirpreviousexperiencesatcamphadasignificantimpactontheirlives(Figure7).Attheendofthesummer,92%ofstaffagreedthattheexperiencethatsummerhadasignificantimpactontheirlives,90%agreedtheywerestrengthenedintheirfaith,and91%agreedtheygrewinself-confidence(Figure14).Interestingly,manyoftheseimpactsweredifficulttomeasurefromthebeginningofcamptoendofcampbecauseofdifferingcampexperiences(Tables1and2),somostitemsshowednosignificantchanges.

• Daycampstaffmembersshowedsomeimportantdifferenceswiththosewhoservedallormostofthesummeratovernightcamp.Inparticular,daycampstafftendedtogetmoresleeponaverageandfeltmoresupportedbytheirsupervisors.Bothofthesefactorscontributedtolowerstaffburn-out.

ChallengesandPotentialGrowingAreas:• Manystaffmembersindicatedfeelingphysicallyand/oremotionallyexhaustedorburntoutattheend
