Overwhelmed by Your Generosity

We’ve talked before about how the tithe is really already God’s and we’re not giving it, but simply returning it. This year we decided we wanted to express our gratitude to God in a tangible way. We wanted to have a special Sunday where we gave our church family an opportunity to bring a special offering above and beyond our normal tithes. We thought this would be a tangible way to express our gratitude to our Heavenly Father Who continues to shower us with His provision and blessings. In case you haven’t heard, on November 19th you guys gave around $75,000! The number keeps going up because offerings keep coming in (even after the 19th). First of all, to God be all the glory! Secondly, I knew you guys were generous, but I have to admit that this was overwhelming, amazing, awesome. I am so proud to be a part of a church family like ours. Thank you for your generosity!!

Full steam ahead!

Thirdly, this offering was a faith-building confirmation that we are on the right track for the future. Our current building program is a major step of faith. It would be easy to just sit back and rest in what God has done to this point. It would be easy to say, “You know, we’re debt-free and we’ve got a decent sized congregation already. Let’s just play it safe.” But I’m thankful that our church leadership believes that’s not the way to approach the work of the Kingdom. There are too many people in Mercer County who still aren’t in a relationship with Jesus Christ. You just can’t go out to the road and hang a “No Vacancy” sign because you want to play it safe. As long as God continues to send us a harvest, we’re committed to making room for more. This offering just confirms that we are on the same page as a church family and committed to reaching as many souls as possible for the Kingdom.

Christmas is a great time to invite friends

Finally, Christmas is a great time to invite family, friends, neighbors, co-workers to join you for one of the special programs or Sunday morning worship services. The Christmas season seems to make people more open to an invitation. Be praying about someone God may be leading you to invite to join you on a Sunday morning, for one of our Christmas dramas/musicals, or for our special Christmas Eve service which will begin at 5:30 PM. We’ll make sure they hear about the true “Reason for the Season.”

From my heart to yours, Greg

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of

the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38

Finding Your Place of Service

As mentioned at church and in your Sunday bulletin,

we are inviting you to sign up for areas of ministry where you feel God calling you to serve.

Our Senior Minister, Greg Warren, spoke in a recent sermon about the importance of using your God-given talents/abilities for service in the kingdom of

God, or, as it is often called around TCCC, being a "kingdom worker". Greg also mentioned that we want to help you in knowing the specific area (s) God

has already equipped you to serve. So let Greg or me know if we can help you in discovering your spiritual gifts and/or answer any questions you may have regarding the different areas of ministry at

TCCC. Also, please stop by the Connection Counter to let us know how we may better assist you as you journey with the Lord in this process.

You will find being in the Lord's service is not only encouraging to others but will benefit your growth as

you walk with Jesus.

We will have a combined Thanksgiving Christmas Dinner for the people that attend No-Walls and Refuge Services. It will be Saturday December 9th in the Church Gymnasium at 5pm. We will have a meal, singing, a message and give away winter clothes. We will need volunteers if you would like to help please contact John Sims or the Church Office. We need deserts, if you would like to make a desert for the meal please bring it to the Church Saturday December 9th. We will do the angel tree gifts again this year for kids in Mercer County. Please take an angel or two off the Christmas trees in the front lobby. Deadline to turn in gifts is December 17th. They are not to be wrapped, just keep gifts in the bag and place it under the tree along with the angle tree tag so we will know what child to give that gift to. A gift wrapping party will be on December 19th from 2-5pm in the gym. We are asking for donations of wrapping paper, tape, boxes, & bows. There is a box in the back lobby to place your donations in. Our Church is amazing the way members give. We will give out over 400 shoe boxes gifts to kids this year. So far, we have collected over 200 bags of clothes to help people stay warm this winter. Thanks to everyone for what you do.

John Sims Ministry Team Leader

Lambkincare Ministry Isaiah 40:11

The name is new but here at The Carpenter’s Christian Church, we have been supporting Haven Care Pregnancy Resource Center for

years. The opportunities have increased to love the new moms and babies so TCCC has decided to reach out and form a new ministry called “Lambkincare Ministry. If you would like more information, please contact Linda VanderKamp at: 859-748-9813.

Many thanks for all the prayers, love, cards and concerns during my rent recovery from my fall. A special thanks to John Kesel & Larry Camic for their visits with powerful prayers, worlds of encouragement, and the Lord’s Supper each week. That meant so much to me. It is a blessing to be part of a wonderful church family. Thanks to all at Carpenter’s. Love & God Bless Jean Cummins

Please take a Love Tree Angel off of the Christmas trees in the front lobby to purchase gifts for needy children. Love Tree gifts are due back Sunday, Dec. 17. Please lay your

gifts under the trees in the front lobby in a bag. We welcome you to join us wrapping these gifts on Tuesday,

December 19th from 2-5pm. We continue to need wrapping paper, tape, tags, boxes and bows.

TCCC Children’s Ministry Stacy Charles, Children’s Ministry Director [email protected]

Wow! Wow! Wow! Praise God and to God be all the Glory!! Thank you so much TCCC for your generous Thanksgiving gift to help us complete the Children's wing in the new building. We are beside ourselves with excitement as to what the Lord has planned for all of us once the construction is complete and we can get into our new area. God is working and moving and this is an example of the work that He is doing at TCCC. Thank you to all of you that gave and continue to give to help us continue to transform and mold these young hearts and lives for Jesus Christ. Like I have said many, many times . . . If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to. We are doing exactly this at TCCC - Teaching our young children and Youth to follow Christ in everything they do. Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we continue to do God's work in mighty ways! Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone. I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving, rested, and spent some quality time with your family and friends. We have so much to be thankful for. God has blessed each of us with so much and TCCC is one of my biggest blessings. So, I am thankful for my church family and the love and support that each one of you show me and my children. Christmas is almost upon us. With that, means there is lots to do. Our TCCC Children's Choir will be sharing their Christmas play, "It all Happened in the Country" on Sunday, December 10th at 6:00 p.m. Our children have been working hard on this memorizing songs, memorizing lines, and solos and we want their church family to join them as they share this story. You will receive a blessing for sure. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend. Our TCCC Children's Choir will also be sharing the special music with the TCCC congregation on December 24th - during the morning Christmas Eve services. Our TEAM KID family will be meeting on Wednesday, December 6th and Wednesday, December 13th. We will not be meeting on December 20th or 27th. On December 13, we will have our annual TEAM KID Christmas party where we will decorate cookies, sing carols, make Christmas crafts, and share the Christmas story. So excited about this time with our kiddos as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas season.

I would like to take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I pray that you will all have a safe and merry Christmas and a great

New Year. Jesus is the Reason for the Season!!

TCCC STUDENTS Jacob Bryant, Youth Ministry Director [email protected]

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around TCCC. The Christmas trees are in the foyer, the stage is built for the play, and all the talks surrounding what the Christmas eve service is going to look like has begun! It is also hard to believe that we are in the last month of 2017. We started out this year hitting the ground running and to believe that the finish line for this year is around the corner is crazy! We have taken leaps in our Wednesday night Life-Groups this year. We have had 4 different lesson series and just started a new one this past week that will finish out the year for us. “Community” is what we are calling the new series and we are exploring how our friends and peers can affect us. The basis of this series is, “You are the company you keep.” If you have a teenager or have raised one, you know that usually the friends that they hang out with will more than likely develop good or bad habits as they grow up. We feel as if it is important to follow through with this series in hopes to have students keep an open mindset when it comes to choosing the friends that they hang out with when they are not around family or church. If your student has not been attending our Life-Groups, we would like to extend an invitation to them to come hang out with us as we close the door on 2017. We are aware that for a lot of families, around the new year means planning vacations and figuring out what the summer is going to look like. With that being said, I want to take a moment and make sure that everyone is aware of the dates for camp. For the most part, we try keep the same weeks from the previous year for camps. CIY MOVE will be June 11th-15th in Anderson, Indiana and CIY MIX (Middle School) will be June 25th-28th in Cleveland, Tennessee. A few things to keep in mind about CIY this year:

1. There are new guidelines that have been put in place for CIY. There will be a parent meeting in the upcoming weeks that we will talk about that.

2. In order to complete community service outside of TCCC. There is a new form that will need to be completed and signed by the leader of the group.

3. Students who have completed 8 hours of community service, TCCC will pay 1/3 of the tuition needed for camp. There are a few new guidelines not mentioned above that we will make known later, but wanted to make sure that you all were aware of these before it got too late. As we close out 2017, we are excited to see what 2018 is going to bring for our Student Ministry at TCCC. We are seeing a steady growth in our student attendance and we are closer and closer to our own student center. Great things are coming!

Giving the Gift of Prayer

In searching for the perfect gift for someone I always have a hard time finding something for people who seem to have everything they need. Every year I think about what would be something different.

No matter what I come up with, it only brings temporary joy. It soon loses its excitement and glamour. I wonder, though, about all of the people who would love to receive something that money can’t buy. Something that will last. Maybe just much-needed peace of mind.

Imagine someone waking up on Christmas morning and no longer feeling depressed. There is a gift we can all give to many we know. It cannot be wrapped in pretty paper. It cannot be packed in a box and shaken. But it can restore marital relationships. It can heal diseases. It can bring peace to a troubled heart and soul. It can do what no other gift can do . . . and all it costs is some of my time.

Prayer is that gift. Time spent in prayer for someone else is the greatest gift anyone can give. Prayer is the catalyst to unlocking Heaven’s blessings. Prayer is the gift that God allows us to give back to Him on behalf of others. We have a direct line to God and God has a direct line to the person our gift is intended for.

Thank you for your labor of love in “giving those gifts of prayer” to others and our community. Many, even the prayer warriors, will not know this side of Heaven the difference our prayers have made.

May you be encouraged by these words today . . .

Dolls of HOPE About five years ago Dolls of HOPE started making dolls for children in the hospital then over the years Family Protective Services, Harrodsburg Police

Department, Southeastern Kentucky, and Guatemala. We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every month January-October at 10 am. We gathering together to sew, stuff dolls, and enjoy each other’s company. After some time we had leftover fabric so we decided to use the fabric to make quilts for pregnancy centers and other charitable organizations. This is when Dolls of HOPE Quilting was born. We meet the 1st Monday of each month at 10 am. In October we delivered 12 quilts to the Galilean Home and 10 for Haven Care Pregnancy Resource Center. We are always in need of 100% cotton fabric for the dolls and quilts. Toboggans are made for Christmas shoeboxes for the Mission Team also. If you would like to learn how to make toboggans on a loom contact Dora Higginbotham or Martha Lainhart. You do not have to sew or knit to help in this ministry. There are other ways you can help. We will continue to collect can goods and non-perishable food items for the Christian Life Center throughout the year. You can help participate in this project by placing your donations in the basket provided in the front lobby. If you have any questions contact Dora Higginbotham at 265-7548 or Martha Lainhart at 734-5893.

If it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give

generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Romans 12:8

Mending Hearts May we all celebrate the birth of our Savior at this Christmas season by attending all the great events here at The Carpenter's Christian Church and in our community. However, don't let the

commercialism of the world take away this feeling of love that comes only from God when he gave His only Son. The Mending Hearts met at the church for our Thanksgiving lunch and enjoyed sharing with each other. We will have our Christmas lunch on December 19th with everyone bringing finger food and a $5.00 gift. I need everyone to please sign up so I can make proper plans.

Remember to keep "Christ" in Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all,

Wanda Waldridge

Willing

Hands The Willing Hands met on Thursday, November 14th. We dis-

cussed what we wanted to do as our Christmas donations this year. We voted to increase our donation to the shoebox ministry to $300. We also voted to sponsor 3 children of an inmate from the prison ministry. We will provide Christmas gifts and birthday gifts for these 3 children throughout 2018. We also voted to assist with Angel Tree children if they are not all taken this year. We voted to ask Chad Ellis to create arrangements for the com-munion table during 2018. We will have between 4 and 6 arrange-ments done to go along with holidays and/or seasons. We want to say a big thank you to Chad for doing such a good job with every-thing we ask of him. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 12th at 6:00. We meet a little earlier at the December meeting because this is our Christmas Party. Each lady needs to bring a snack of some sort, your choice. Also, bring a $10 gift for the gift exchange. This would be a great time for ladies of TCCC to join us. Our Christ-mas meeting is more social than business and would give you the opportunity to get to know us on a more personal level. Please don’t feel awkward about making this your first meeting, we would love to have as many attend as possible. As you do your Christmas shopping, make it a point to say Merry Christmas at every opportunity. Most store clerks will re-spond the same. They can’t say it first for fear of management’s disapproval. I hate that our society has tried to remove Christ from Christmas. It’s our responsibility as Christians, to put Christ back in as the center of Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU,

Teri Giles

Wow!! What an exciting and inspirational Fall we have had!! We heard some

wonderful testimonies and ended 2017 with our Christmas Brunch on Saturday, December 2nd. We would like to thank everyone who attended the Brunch, decorated a table, donated door prizes, and supported the Women’s Ministry in 2017! The Women’s Ministry Team wishes each one of our ladies and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!! May we all remember that the season of Christmas is all about the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!! Our next meeting will be in February, and it promises to be full of fun and laughter!

Spirit Lifters We had a great time in Pigeon Forge with 21 of us riding the church bus. We had fun eating, shopping, laughter, games, eating more, laughter, ice cream sundaes and a banana splits at Mel’s diner! Great devotionals by Red Adkinson and Wanda Waldridge. We had a great turnout for the Thanksgiving dinner. Great food, great fellowship and entertainment by one of our own, Scott Noland. Spirit Lifters invites everyone to the Christmas dinner in the gym on December 7th at 6pm. This will be a pot luck with Dunn's Catering providing the meat. Everyone is asked to bring a side or dessert. There will also be a $10 gift exchange which is optional.

So thankful and blessed! Joanne Harris
