GOSPEL SYMBOLS AND IMAGES Those invited hand of the lord
For Christians, the symbolism of the meal is particularly significant because of its Eucharistic associations. The meal of living bread and wine—the body and blood of Christ—is in continuity with the meal Jesus shared with his disciples and a foretaste of the heavenly banquet where there will be abundance for all who respond.

PRAYER FOR HSC STUDENTS
Today, let us especially pray for our young people
as they begin the HSC.
God we ask that they especially feel your closeness
during the HSC exam period.
Give them calm hearts and quiet confidence
in the knowledge that you hold them in the palm of your hand.
Bless them with keen understanding and retentive memory.
Give them the ability to grasp things correctly,
be exact in their explanations
And an ability to express themselves clearly.
Point out the beginning, direct their progress
and help in them in the completion of each of their responses.
Holy Spirit send them your gifts of wisdom and knowledge
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen
FROM OUR YOUTH MINISTER
Hello, my name is Victoria Loughland and I’m the new Youth
Minister for North Harbour Parish. I’ve had the pleasure of being a
part of North Harbour Parish for quite some time. What has always
stood out to me is the value and importance of our community. Our
young people are the future of this community and I’m so grateful to
be involved in helping our youth build that future.
As a young person it can be a challenging time, we have so many
questions regarding our faith and values. My goal is to create an
outlet for young people to feel like they can ask those questions,
share their faith and make everlasting friendships. I can’t wait to get
to know our young community, as well as each and every one of you.
If you have any questions or would just like to say hello, feel free to come and have a chat, I’m usually around after
6pm Sunday mass (Youth Mass). This Parish is so important to me and I’m honoured to be a part of the team that
will continue to make it grow.

Ben Marshall (music minister)

OPEN MIC NIGHT FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER
FROM 7.30PM—PARISH CENTRE
Question of the Week ‘The guest was not wearing a wedding garment and was thrown out of the feast.’
Matthew 22:11, 13
At school: Do I take God’s love and generosity for granted or do I really serve
others?
At work or study: Am I a Christian who is prepared to learn, speak out, to act as
Jesus would?
In my family life: How do we dress up our discipleship…by prayer, by generosity,
by tolerance?
Discipleship this week!
Pick up your clothes, help with the washing, sort some for the Vinnies
shop…be grateful, not choosy!
ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH An article in the Manly Daily on Wednesday last entitled
“God clean fun” focused on the attraction of the Christian
faith to young people in our area.
“Manly's youth are into sport, God and volunteering,
according to a survey of nearly 1500 young people. Carried out as part of devising
Manly Council's youth strategy, the survey found one in five local people aged 12 to
24 called themselves churchgoers, almost one in three volunteer and more than 60
per cent are involved in a sports team. Local clergymen said it was curiosity and a
sense of community that brought young people to church.”
Pope Francis is constantly inviting us to be positive and joyful about the Gospel message of Jesus. It is spoken about
throughout his exhortation “The Joy of the Gospel”. It is perfectly understandable that in these times we are inclined to
be defensive and passive about inviting others to look closely at us as a Catholic community and to even discover what
our Catholic faith is all about.
As we launch again into our annual programs for the RCIA and RCIC, which are designed, respectively, for adults new
to the faith and children over 8 years old yet to receive their Sacraments, it is timely to reflect on the image we project
and our need to be proactive in speaking about our faith. People are often more interested than we think. As we also
welcome our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, Victoria Loughland, it is also time to recognise that we need to open
our hearts and minds to the younger generation who are looking for community and ideals by which to live their lives.
“The joy of the Gospel is such that it cannot be taken away from us by anyone or anything." (Pope Francis)

HAPPY 99TH BIRTHDAY TO MRS JOY BOURKE CONGRATULATIONS!
November Dead List
From the earliest times in the Church’s history, the month of November has been dedicated to the Holy Souls. This began when November 2nd was designated as the day on which we pray particularly for this intention. But since it would not be possible to offer all the Masses which are requested for the dead relatives and friends of the faithful on this one day, the Church extends the offering of Masses for the Faithful Departed throughout the whole month of November, and indeed throughout the whole year. The faith community submits the names to the priests during this month, and the intentions unable to be offered during November are offered during the rest of the year. These offerings are accepted from the beginning of November.
Parishioners using the envelope system for their planned giving contributions will have noticed the November Mass Offering envelope in their box. For everybody else who would like to offer a Mass, or if you need more than one, envelopes are available in the Church foyers or the Parish Office. You can leave your envelopes on any collection plate or at the Parish Office.
WE PRAY Come to me! I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
