January 7, 2016 Press Release Jamia Vice-Chancellor honoured by Indian Geophysical Union Delivers prestigious Prince Mukarram Jah Endowment Lecture Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia delivered the prestigious Prince Mukarram Jah Endowment Lecture of Indian Geophysical Union for the year 2015 yesterday at Hyderabad. Prof. Ahmad interacted with young scientists, researchers and students and motivated them to pursue research in Geo Sciences. This lecture was delivered at CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad. On the occasion, Prof. Ahmad was honoured and presented a citation in recognition of his contribution to Earth Sciences. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, is an accomplished academician and renowned Geologist. He has contributed significantly in understanding the genesis of Precambrian magmatism and evolution of the Himalaya and north India shield based on geochemical and isotopic studies. He has established a Precambrian Research Group which helped the Department of Geology at University of Delhi to become a Centre for Advanced Studies with Precambrian Research as a thrust area. As a VC of Kashmir University, he has formed a consortium with Delhi University, JNU, Sikkim University and Jammu University to study the Himalayan Glaciers. He is now starting new courses on Disaster Management, Atmospheric Sciences and Mountain meteorology. Prof. Ahmad supervised 17 Ph.D. students and published more than 85 research papers in good standing journals. In view of his significant contribution to Precambrian Geology, Prof. Talat Ahmad has been unanimously chosen for Prince Mukarram Jah Endowment Lecture of IGU for the year 2015, the citation read. The Prince Mukaram Jah Endowment Lecture was instituted by Indian Geophysical Union (IGU) in 1964 from a grant offered by the family of Prince Mukarram Jah who was the Nizam of Hyderabad. The lecture is delivered at the Annual Convention of IGU by a distinguished Scientist/Academician who has made significant contribution during the last 25 years to the growth of Geo-sciences. Mitra, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr. U.R. Rao, Dr. A. Jayaraman, Prof. U.R. Rao, Prof. Govind Swarup, Dr. K.S. Jamia Vice-Chancellor honoured by Indian Geophysical Union Delivers prestigious Prince Mukarram Jah Endowment Lecture
