KEY TO LOCATIONS

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

CaFÉ (Catholic Faith Exploration)

For the last two years we have been holding weekly Tuesday daytime and evening Bible Study gatherings. This year, our Sunday liturgies and our Tuesday gatherings are going to explore those special moments where we’re filled with God’s love called sacraments. We will be exploring the signs and symbols and the wonder and awe of our sacramental life in the church.

Every Tuesday from 11:00 AM until 12:15 PM, Roland Bazin will lead the CaFÉ session in St. Brigid Hall.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 13th from 7:00 until 8:00 PM, Fr. Dan will lead the CaFÉ sessions as scheduled in Assumption Hall.

Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Come to the CaFÉ!

Seeds and Sacrament

Seeds and growth are signs of life. Seeds need to

be tended, watered, weeded, nurtured, and fed in

order for growth to happen and life sustained.

There are many forms of seeds, all with the potential

to grow into a beautiful, some even flowering into

colorful, fragrant blossoms.

In some ways, seeds reflect what happens in our own

lives. From our beginning, God has sown the seed of

His love and life within us. Sacraments are special

encounters with the Divine that help us grow and

blossom as disciples of Jesus, God’s Son. The

sacraments are caring signs of God’s watering,

weeding, nurturing, feeding, and tending to us as we

walk through the joys and sorrows of life.

Sacraments are gifts from God that touch us with

God’s love in special ways.

This month our focus turns to the Sacrament of

Confirmation which flows from Baptism and deepens

our initiation into God’s family, the Church. The

prophets of the Old Testament foretold that God’s

Spirit would rest upon the Messiah to sustain His

mission. Their prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus,

the Messiah, was conceived by the Spirit and born of

the Virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit descended upon

Jesus as He was baptized by John in the River

Jordan. Jesus’ entire saving mission was moved and

sustained by the Spirit. Before He died, Jesus

promised that same Spirit would be given to the

Apostles and to the Church. After His death, Jesus

was raised by the Father through the

power of the Spirit.

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us

to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our

families, in our neighborhoods, even

to the ends of the earth.

To outfit us for this mission, the Holy Spirit

provisions us with gifts: the courage to know and

understand so to see God more clearly, the courage

to wonder and to persevere so to love God more

dearly, and the courage to judge wisely so to follow

God more nearly day by day.

Through Confirmation Jesus sends us into the world

but never fear He is with us always even

to the end of time.

STEWARDSHIP SECOND COLLECTIONS:

Oct. 15/16… DEBT

Oct. 22/23 … St. Vincent de Paul

For more than a quarter century now, the Catholic Communities of Millbury have been asked to contribute to the Grand Annual Collection, a once-a-year collection in three weekly installments to assist in paying for heating and snow removal costs for all of our parish buildings, walkways,

and parking lots in the coming winter. We pray for a mild winter … please God, let us be San Diego East!! … still, we have to be ready for the worst. The parish staff will do our part to keep costs in line and to be as energy efficient as possible, but your financial help is so very crucial. We ask that you prayerfully consider what you might be able to contribute to this year’s

Grand Annual Collection. Donations may be made on line at our website, using the envelopes in your packets, or using a plain envelope clearly marked with your name and Grand Annual Collection written on it. We ask that you be as generous

as your means allow. As always, we are blessed by your generosity. Thank you and God bless!

HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR OUR OWN

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

SPONSORED BY: CATHOLIC FINANCIAL LIFE

OCTOBER 22/23

Catholic Financial Life is a fraternal organization which

chooses various religious, educational, civic, and social events

to sponsor or co-sponsor with the goal of matching up to

$500.00 of what is raised. Each year, local chapters, we being

Chapter #56, choose the events which we will sponsor or co-

sponsor. Some are repeat events and some change from year to

year. Chapter #56 has been co-sponsoring Assumption

School’s Jog-A-Thon for the past few years.

This year, with your help, the council will be supporting our

own St. Vincent de Paul Society. On the weekend of October

22nd and 23rd a collection will be taken up for the St. Vincent de

Paul Society. Envelopes are in your packets. If you do not

receive envelopes, you may also use a plain envelope and mark

it St. Vincent de Paul. Catholic Financial Life will match up to

$500 of what comes in the collection...so if the collection brings

in $500, St. Vincent de Paul will receive a matching $500 for a

total of $1,000. If the collection brings in less than $500,

Catholic Financial Life will match 100 percent of what was

raised. Members of Chapter #56 will assist with

this special collection.

For more information, contact

Richard Dick Croteau at 774-276-0095.

School of Joy Due to the bad situation and the interruption of

tourist trade that is happening with our Christian families in Bethlehem, the birth town of Jesus, Maysoon Khair will be here at our church on

October 22 and 23. She will be representing the School of Joy for slow learning children and over a

100 Christian families who make their livelihood through the selling of their hand carved olive wood religious articles. After all Masses, there will be a

display of these hand carved items such as nativity scenes, crucifixes, rosaries, and many other beautiful religious statues. Please look over the carvings that

are available and help support this self/help project to keep the children and the Christians present in the

holy land of Jesus’ birth. Thank you and God bless you!
