The Challenge of Television Content Services
A SUCCESSFUL PLATFORM FOR AN ISLAMIC TELEVSION CHANNEL
succeeded if they hadnt cost so much to create, taken so long to deliver and been sounresponsive to
changing demand. Today, as content service complexity increases,the need to solve the cost, time-to-
market and flexibility problems are the greatestchallenges facing every Islamic television Channel.The
interesting question is no longer, Will users pay to see Islamic programmes on adigital television
channel? It is Can we deliver this service at a low enough cost tomake it feasible,
pr ac tica l and sust ainable? In this sense, the only ki ller app in content services is an
infrastructure that can support the cost-effective delivery of awide variety of contents
and programmes.
The need for rapid prototyping
The first generation of digital content services involved guessing consumer desiresand
bu ilding expens ive servi ces spec ifically de signed to meet the m. Thi s high -r iskapproachcan no longer be sustained.The, ISLAMIC TELEVISION CHANNEL needs to be able to react
quickly to new
ideasand oppor tun i t i e s by bu i ld ing p ro to type o r fu l l p i lo t s e rv ice s qu ick ly an
d c o s t -
e f f e c t i v e l y . E a c h p r o t o t y p e c a n t e s t a r a n g e o f v a r i a b l e s s u c h
a s c o n t e n t presentation, pricing and payment models, delivery channel,
etc.T h e s e n i m b l e r , m o r e f l e x i b l e s e r v i c e s c a n b e c h a n g e d t o r e f l e c t e
a r l y u s e r experience, and then scaled up to millions of users when ready.
The answer: unifying the value chain
For Islamic television Channel to succeed, they will need to turn the informal
