Programme Overview Youth to Work is the flagship employability programme within Futuremakers by Standard Chartered Foundation, the Bank’s global initiative to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people in local communities. Futuremakers programmes focus on three key areas: Education (imparting basic life skills), Employability and Entrepreneurship. The objective of the Youth to Work programme is to position and equip young people with skills and opportunities to create economic and employment changes across the economy for sustainable and measurable impact. In this sense, the young people become implementers of change, rather than standalone programme beneficiaries. How will Youth to Work Benefit My Enterprise? Enterprises partner and receive on-site business development, growth and resilience support co-created and delivered by the Junior Associates over 4 months using tools tried and tested with over 1,000 enterprises. Junior Associates are supported through this process by receiving accredited business management training from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), enabling them to apply this knowledge to support your enterprise. Enterprises are supported as they grow their peer-networks and in strengthening their ecosystem Enhancing the skills of enterprise staff. Access to senior mentors from Zambia and the UK to provide expert input. What will the Junior Associate do in the enterprise?Conduct enterprise analysis – Junior Associates will use an enterprise workbook with internal and external environment analysis tools. These will be to evaluate key enterprise areas such as resilience in the context of Covid-19, leadership, the organisation and staff, the product/service, sales and marketing, legal and IT, financial management, organisation risk profile and investment readiness. This will be done with an aim of understanding the business overall performance within its operating environment.

Make recommendations – Basing on the results from the analysis, the Junior Associates will make recommendations to the enterprise to capitalise on its strengths and curb the identified weaknesses in with an aim to optimise performance and support business growth.

Implement recommendations – the Junior Associates co-create and implement the short-term recommendations in collaboration with the key staff within the enterprise.

What value will the Junior Associates add?By the end of the program, each participating company will have:

clear digital records of their financial and operational performance and their progress in organisational development

strategic plan for ongoing improvements and business development, which also has a focus on resilience in a post-Covid environment

a comprehensive data room better connectivity between up and down stream relationships within the enterprise.

This will mean that participating enterprises will have clear strategies to reduce the impact of Covid-19 as well as a clear pathway to achieving long-term growth and success.

How do I know that I am eligible? You need to have been operating actively as a business for at least three years You must have a minimum annual turnover in the past financial year of ZMW1million You must be supportive of young people’s development and be willing and open to

hiring young people to your company. You must be able to evidence financial records. You must have at least 3 full time employees. Be based, or at least have a presence, in Lusaka You must be willing to commit to a 4-month placement programme.

Confidentiality All information provided by your enterprise to Challenges Worldwide will be treated as confidential and will be used solely for the purpose of offering support to your enterprise unless you agree otherwise in writing. All information is treated according to UK Data Protection Law. This information may be used to offer further support options through Challenges Group.
