Rod Larson Missions Update From: the Rickerts As we get to know the La Crosse community, Cru alumni and the students involved in the local Cru movements we are asking them lots of questions about their passions and their experiences on the campuses in this area! Your prayers are vital to our min- istry. Please join us in prayer for... Freshman!! In less than a month freshmen will flood campuses in our area. They are eagerly awaiting their room- mate assignments, wondering who their new best friends will be, and curious about what communities will become their family at college. We are pray- ing for them! Will you too? We are praying that they encounter Jesus on campus, in and thru campus ministries like Cru. Our La Crosse area staff team has been in a state of transi- tion. Pray that we would com- pliment each other well, as we serve alongside one another. Pray that we would lead the multiple Cru movements and student leaders in a humble and unified spirit. Pray for our family as we seek to plug-in at a local church. It is hard to be a visitor week after week with small children! Pray our boys would feel com- fortable quickly and that we experience joy in the Lord dur- ing the process! Vs. 17-22 “the worse”; “divisions”; “factions” * all through this letter Paul has been challenging disunity •1:10-11 (different personalities and teachings)•3:3-5 “jealousy and strife” • 5:1-2, 6-7 (different responses to immorality in the church) •6:1 (taking one another to court) • 7:20 (different views and practices with marriage, slavery, circumcision) • 8:12 (different ideas on “liberty” and “causing brothers to stumble”) • 9-10 (challenges between different ethnic groups) • 11 (different ideas on “practicesin the church) Vs. 23-26 unity * all through the letter Paul has been calling the church to unity around the cross of Christ. •1:9 called together into fellowship with Jesus Christ our Lord (vs. 18, 30) • 2:2 “For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” • 3:11, 23 • 5:7-8 “Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed” • 6:20 • 10:16-17 • 11:24-25 This is my body, which is for you: do this in remembrance of Me.” “This cup is the new covenant in My blood;” (remember together the forgiveness, the new life that all need equally) Vs. 27-34 disunity’s consequences •vs. 27-29 taking communion in an unworthy manner (guilty) [examine yourself—judge yourself correctly] • vs. 30-34 some are weak, sick, dead—having come under judgement, disciplined by the Lord * I Cor. 10:16-17 Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? “Tuesday University” begins this week Take advantage of this great opportunity to grow deeper in your knowledge of God and His Word. Starting Tuesday, September 5th (orientation session) at 6:30 P.M. at Bethany Church in Mason (carpooling from Salem’s OLL offices will be available). “Introduction to Theology” is a ten week course. This will be a cooperative venture between The Oaks, Salem and Bethany!

Kids Club Workers Needed

Kids Club is in need of teachers and helpers for this year. The “club year” (tentatively) begins September 20th, and runs through March 28th, meeting on Wednesday evenings, 6::00-7:30 P.M. If you’re able to help out in any way, please contact Lonnie at 715-292-3777 or just attend the meeting on September 6th.

“Prayer Gathering starts Next Sunday A weekly prayer gathering will begin on Sunday, September 10th at 9:00 A.M. in the Band Room at the Middle School. “The apostles devotion to prayer was not a supplement to the crafting of their ministry plans. It was the essential lifeline for receiving Christ’s

direction and provision.” Come join us when you can to seek Christ for Salem through prayer!

NCA Monday Night Meeting Stacy Lung, author of Wisconsin’s Flood Journey will be at WITC from 7-8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 11th, speaking on “What caused the ice age and how did it impact our state?” See the poster on the bulletin board for more information.

55 ‘N’ Better Meets September 14th This year’s 55 ‘N’ Better kicks off with Sue Martinsen describing her work on the murals in Ashland, special music by Mary Ann Koval and flutist, Jacque Coffland, and lunch prepared by Rosemary Anderson. We meet at 10:30 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 311 13th Street West in Ashland. If you’re 55 or older, you don’t want to miss it!!!

Ladies Wednesday Morning Bible Study Wednesday, September 13th is the start date for the Ladies Bible Study meeting at Second Wind Bed & Breakfast. We meet from 10:00 –11:30 and will be studying the book of Hebrews. If you want to join in, or would like more information, call Li Wiik at 715-682-5421.

Northwoods Creation Dinner Northwoods Creation Association will be holding a potluck dinner /fundraiser event on September 14 from 6:00—7:30 at WITC. You will hear the testimonies of Rich Larson and Abby Scheller about how the Bible and science has affected their lives and then have an opportunity to support NCA financially. See table near main entrance for more info.

Treat Yourself for a Good Cause Culver’s Restaurant will be having a Faith IN Action night

on Tuesday, September 12th from 4:00-8:00. Part of the proceeds during those hours will benefit the Faith In Action program. Plan to have supper and a shake &help seniors live independently at the same time. For more info call 715-682-4414 x 3.
