Well here we are in the countdown to all the holidays we celebrate this month. Time goes by so quickly. It’s like a flash and they’re here! Please take time to enjoy them.

The Colony Club has been so generous with Thoughts, Words, and Deeds. You truly take the Collect and make it so meaningful. All the activities we have done this year have made a difference in someone’s life—be it a member’s, a member’s guest, someone reading about the Club, the recipients of whatever fundraiser—monetary or material items—or just seeing our spectacular floats in the Halloween and Christmas Parades. Nominating Committee—Board Vacancies

Don’t Miss These!

I know January seems like a long way away, but the holiday rush is upon us and it’ll be here before you know it.  Therefore, I wanted to let everyone know that come January we will be forming a nominating committee in order to find members to fill vacancies on the board. We don’t quite know which board members will keep their current positions, but there are more than a few who have completed their second year in office and will step down. The bylaws state that the chairman of the nominating committee will be the immediate past president who will need three members to be on the committee. The committee is charged with finding members to take over board vacancies…which could include the president since Jane has not committed to serve another year…yet. If past years are any example, finding volunteers to be committee members and new board members will be very difficult. The past few years have taught us there’s a core group who will volunteer for just about anything thrown their way…the Hallowe’en Parade is the best evidence of that. It was a disappointing turnout from our members. At the beginning of the year last year, I asked all of our members to dig a little deeper and give some of their time to the Colony Club rather than an occasional dollar or dinner dish. Unfortunately, most of our members decided my request didn’t apply to them. So at this time, I’m asking, again, for our members to dig a little deeper and give the club some of your time. I challenge all of you to approach some of the current board members and ask what their job involves. I know it seems like a lot of hard work—and it could be at times—but when everyone participates, each job becomes easier. I know many of us—including myself—joined the Colony Club in order to meet other women with similar interests, but you have to keep in mind what this club is all about—giving back to the community by raising funds and awarding scholarships. The only way to accomplish this is to participate in our fund raisers and not simply attend meetings and enjoy the speakers. Keep in mind we wouldn’t have the enjoyment of speakers if it wasn’t for a board member. So, I implore each and every one of you to rethink why you joined the club and how much you’re willing to help out in the future. Without a board or volunteers we do not have a club. It would be very embarrassing for each and every one of us if we had to dissolve the Colony Club after 65 years. In January, a nominating committee member will be approaching each and every one of you…face-to-face…to request that you be a volunteer for a board position or a committee.

SO BE VERY AFRAID….AND THINK ABOUT IT….. ’CAUSE WE’RE COMING FOR YOU!!!
