Compassionate and loving God, through the example and intercession of Saints Isidore and
Maria, may we discover a renewed love for your presence in the Eucharist, a passion to serve
and tend to the needs of those who are most poor and broken and an unfailing commitment to the
covenant of married love and life. May they help us balance all of the tasks and obligations we
face each day by reminding us to nurture our relationship with You, strengthen our bonds with
our brothers and sisters, embrace our strengths, gifts and weaknesses and care for the earth you
have entrusted to our care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
2017 TEEN MISSION TRIP
On July 29, 45 of our parish youth and 8 chaperones departed for Thomasville, NC to repair homes and
strengthen their faith. They returned on August 5. Next month participants will present to the parish the
good works of their trip.

(Note: if you would like to volunteer to the lead the Children's liturgy occasionally, please contact Sarah at [email protected])

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
HOME VISITS
In recent bulletins Father Mark has introduced our Pastoral Ministry program, and explained that he has asked us to assure that all of our homebound parishioners have an opportunity to receive Holy Communion. He wants to be very sure that no one is forgotten. If you have a family member, friend or neighbor who would like to receive Holy Communion at home please contact Melissa Lacafta, Father Mark’s adminis-trative assistant at 860-633-9419, or [email protected]. RIDES TO MASS
For many years, St. Paul’s has been offering a “rides to Mass” service for parishioners who are unable to drive but are otherwise independent. The six-passenger van is driven by volunteers and will continue to operate after the merger. Because we are transitioning into our new parish of Ss. Isi-dore and Maria, we need more volunteers to accommodate our people. In addition, we would like to find out if there are others who would benefit from this ministry. If you know of anyone who is independent but unable to drive please pass this information along. If you would like to volunteer as a driver, we need you! For more information, please contact Donna Ruggiero 860-633-3126 or Damien Walsh 860-659-9631.
Some Simple Tips for Becoming the Best
Faith Community • Patience. Growing takes time. Change comes slowly.
All will be well. Pray. • We are being guided and led by Someone greater than
ourselves: God. Trust. • Lose the ego. Remember what you are doing and why
you are doing it.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter
"This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him." Improve your listening skills by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend. The next WWME Weekends are Nov 3-5, 2017 in Manchester, CT and Aug 11-13, 2017 in WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY. For more information, call Dennis & Jane Lamondy at 860-481-3720 or visit us at https://wwmectw.org/.
This weekend please welcome Rev. Juan Solorzano,
MXY to our parish. He belongs to the Yarumal Mission-
aries. He is originally from Colombia, South America and has served the people of God for many years in Cambodia, Asia. The goal of the Yarumal Missionaries, who were founded 90 years ago, is to witness the Gospel of Jesus Christ among people and cultures where the Gospel is not yet fully preached. They are present in Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Angola, Cambodia and Thailand. In order to carry out their pastoral programs and social projects, these missionaries depend very much on the generosity of the Christians from parishes they visit. Our suppor for Rev. Solorzano is a sign that reminds us of our baptismal vocation: We are
also missionaries of Christ. Please be generous.
Holy Communion for Celiac Disease Sufferers
People with Celiac disease who cannot tolerate (or have a low tolerance for) gluten, have two options for the reception of Holy Communion at Mass:: • If you can tolerate a small amount of gluten, you may
wish to receive the Eucharist in the form of a low-
gluten host. Please note that these hosts are not glu-
ten-free: for the host to be valid matter for consecra-
tion it must contain some wheat.
• Those who cannot tolerate any gluten may receive Ho-
ly Communion in the form of the Precious Blood.
In either case please come to the sacristy before Mass and tell the priest, deacon or sacristan that you wish to receive Holy Communion in the form of either a low-gluten host or the Precious Blood. You will then receive additional instructions for reception.
If you’re planning to register your child or teen for fall faith formation classes, now is the time! Several classes are full so please register soon. We will attempt to accommodate your first choice class time as best we can. The last day to
register for classes will be August 31st.
Would you share your faith with our children and teens? We are still looking for volunteers to teach or co-teach our classes as a catechist. In particular, we’re recruiting volun-teers to teach our first grade classes, which meet weekly from September through April, and for tenth grade, for the new class time of 1:00-2:30 on Sunday afternoons roughly once a month. Catechists will work closely with the pro-gram coordinator for their grade level (either Ann Poker or Mike Klinger) as well as with Jon Sozek, our Formation Director. You’ll receive a syllabus, detailing all the topics to cover throughout the year, and work alongside a commu-nity of the more than fifty women and men who teach with us each year. Please get in touch with our Formation Office by phone or email if you’d like to explore this possibility!
PARISH HAPPENINGS
BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS
Get your blood pressure tested!
If not treated, high blood pressure increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, dementia, kidney disease and blind-ness. Be aware of your body's needs: Blood pressure screenings are being held after all Masses (at both St. Augustine and St. Paul Churches) next weekend (August 12-13). Have your blood pressure checked by one of our experienced parish nurses. It's easy, painless, confidential....and FREE.

Coffee And... Volunteers needed!
Please consider volunteering to run a monthly Coffee And... event held in the church hall after the following 7:30 a.m. Sunday masses at St. Augustine Church: October 1st, November 5th, December 3rd. Responsibilities include: Setting up tables, Picking up groceries, picking up baked goods, brewing the coffee, serving the baked goods and coffee, cleaning up after the event, and putting tables away. This is a great way to meet other parishioners and it is a fun event for all! To volunteer or learn more about running one of these events, please call or e-mail Lori Goodwin at (860)803-7898 or [email protected].
PARISH EVENTS
As we prepare for the first major event for our newly-formed parish, we’ll provide a few updates in each week’s bulletin, as
there have been many questions about how this is going to work. We’ve been planning for weeks – there’s a lot of enthusiasm
from volunteers – and we’re anticipating a great event! Here are a few new items.
Silent Auction
We’re expecting to have many attractive items available for bidding at our Silent Auction, and we’ve already begun to solicit
local businesses for donations of items to be auctioned. But we could use your help!
Do you have a contact with a business we might not have thought of – one you think might be willing to donate an item for the
silent auction? If so, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Kathleen, Dee or Donna (at the numbers below) to be sure we
don’t already have that business on our solicitation list.
Festival Sponsors
We have been asked if there is a way for individual parishioners to give some financial support to the Festival, and one person
has already made a donation. So we decided to come up with a structured way for those who may be interested in supporting
the Festival to do that.
If you would like to make a monetary donation in support of the Festival, please make out a check to either parish and write
“Festival Sponsor” on the memo line. You can then put your check in the collection basket, mail it to the parish office, or drop
it off there. You may choose to make the donation in honor of – or in memory of – a loved one, or simply on your own behalf.
We will pray for our sponsors and those they are honoring at the Festival Mass, and we’ll also publish a list of all of our do-
nors. Questions? Please contact Kathleen, Dee or Donna (numbers below).
Children’s Activities
Plenty of activities and crafts are being planned, but we have one outstanding need: a balloon animal maker. Do you have that
skill – or do you know someone who might be willing to donate his or her time to help us out? If so, please call us!
Desserts
A few people are already considering what they’ll make, and have asked for guidance. The only consideration: All desserts
containing nuts must be clearly marked.
Thank you!
