Ex 20:1–17; Ps 19:8, 9, 10, 11;

1 Cor 1:22–25; Jn 2:13–25

After God's people were freed from slavery, God gave them instructions on how to remain free. These laws were intended to be not just commandments to avoid doing evil but a pathway to help the people on their journey. God liberates not only from bondage but for responsibility. We are commanded not to wor-ship idols made by human hands and paid for by money. We must honor God's name and keep holy the Lord's Day, which God sanctified, and all days made holy by our lives. Caring for the aged and in-firm brings blessings; murder, infidelity, and cheating carry a penalty. The law is meant not to be restrictive nor oppressive but to reveal the wisdom of God.

Paul tells us that the cross is a sign that expresses both the wisdom and power of God. In our sinful-ness, we erect human institutions governed by our own wisdom and power. Jesus tells us to tear down these unholy dwellings. In their place, God wants a human heart in which to dwell.

For Reflection: Do I find the commandments burden-some? What am I doing during Lent to cleanse my inner temple?

St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News:

In today’s Gospel Jesus is asked “What sign can you show us?” Everyday we can see signs of how God has visited us in the blessings of our lives. Let us be a sign of God’s love by being a blessing to others. Is there someone who lives near you that may be lone-ly? During this Lenten season, make time to visit a shut in or someone who may be lonely. Just think what your act of kindness will do for them but espe-cially for YOU.

We are waiting to help someone or a family who is out of work and needs assistance. Maybe they are experiencing a temporary setback. Please suggest to them to call 374-8800 and leave a message. Someone from our Society of St. Vincent de Paul will return their call.

Holy Name Parish Holy Name Parish Holy Name Parish Holy Name Parish Evangelization CommitteeEvangelization CommitteeEvangelization CommitteeEvangelization Committee “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.” (Mark, 16:15) We are planning to do a final round of home visita-tions this month. Tentatively, we are planning to visit homes in the Robins Nest subdivision on Saturday morning, March 24 and Saturday morning, March 31. We will meet in the church basement at 9:30 – 10:00 AM for coffee and then leave. We ask prayers for the team and those we visit. Come and join us and spend some time in prayer in the church after we leave. We also would like a volunteer to prepare coffee and do-nuts. These visits are an important way to make our pres-ence known in the community. We go out to meet and greet our neighbors and offer information on the church, not to convert anyone or discuss religion. In the past few years, we have visited hundreds of homes in town, and the response has been generally favorable. Anyone who is interested in joining us in these visits or future events, contact Paul Kselman (374-5703) or any member of the Committee.
