EPINEPHRINE

If you are newly appointed or need a refresher on the use of an auto-injector, this session is for you!

Presented by Peggy Hamel, BSN, CPNP, and Karen Kortebein, BSN, RN, of the Berrien County Health Department

August 17, 2016, 1 - 3 p.m. OR August 18, 2016, 8:30-10:30 a.m.

at Berrien RESARegistration deadline for both sessions is August 12, 2016 (no registration fee)

Medications administration guidelines from the Michigan Department of Education require training for non-nursing staff on the use of an epinephrine auto-injector conducted under the supervision of, and shall include evaluation by a licensed, registered professional nurse. In order to receive a renewed (or new) prescription (RX) for the 2016-2017 school year from Dr. Johansen of the Berrien County Health Department, it is a requirement of at least one person per building within a district to be retrained or newly trained. With your prescription, you will have the opportunity to appy for free epi-pens. Remember, each school building with 10 or more instructional and administrative staff is required to have at least two employees trained and schools with less than 10 staff are required to have at least one trained staff member. You are certainly encouraged to have more staff trained than the required to be better equipped in the event of an anaphylactic reaction.

Great teachers strive to orchestrate quality instructional experiences for every student, every day. Tier 1 instruction should result in up to 80% of students succeeding when steeped in a

brain-friendly, well-instructed, research-based core curriculum. The best intervention is prevention!

When learners struggle, teachers must know how to identify roadblocks and provide alternatives to differentiate their teaching and instructional strategies. High-ability students who demonstrate mastery must also be challenged to extend their learning beyond proficient At this workshop, you’ll explore the elements that collaborative teams must consider to create powerful Tier 1 instructional programs.• Create brain-friendly classrooms that offer optimal learning environments.• Concentrate instruction by identifying essential knowledge and skills that all students must master to learn at high levels.• Use daily differentiation to enhance engagement based on students’ learning needs, preferences, interests, and knowledge.• Utilize ongoing diagnostic or formative assessments to inform instruction, monitor student progress, and provide feedback. • Build a repertoire of powerful, research-based, high-impact instructional strategies to use immediately in the classroom.
