12th Annual Christmas Bazaar
& Bake Sale Raises $3,300
For Hillsboro Firefighters’
Toy and Joy Program
Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal
of raising $3,300 for local Hillsboro children!
Thanks to you, Executive Director Charlene Torrey
will present members of the Hillsboro Firefighters’
Random Acts with a check for $3,300 on
December 5th!
The donation, which will support the Hillsboro Fire
Fighters’ Toy and Joy Program, is a combination of
funds collected at the 12th annual Christmas
Marketplace Bazaar on November 17th, proceeds
from the November 27th bake sale, and a canister
drive.
The Toy and Joy Program was created by dedicated
firefighters and employees from the City of Hillsboro
who believe they can make a difference in the
community in ways besides their emergency
responses and daily interaction with the public.
The Sounds of Christmas
with the Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters
Tuesday, December 4th
6:15 pm in the Party Room
What could be better than listening to your favorite
Christmas carols on the radio? How about Christmas
caroling, barbershop style live in our Party Room!
Join the Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters for a
barbershop tour of your favorite Christmas carols on
Tuesday, December 4th, at 6:15 pm in the Party
Room.
This Christmas, the Tualatin
Valley Harmony Masters are
celebrating their 38th year of
barbershop quartet mastery
with traditional carols.
This performance promises to entertain and take you
back to the days before radios and TV specials!
Tight harmonies, quick wit, and songs of old will
help you celebrate this holiday season in a new way.
If you’ve never heard a men’s barbershop chorus
perform, you’re in for a real treat! Barbershop music
is one of the few musical styles created right here in
the United States. Barbershop singing is four part
harmony with individual parts sung unaccompanied
by instruments to produce a unique musical style that
produces “ringing” chords.
Please invite your family and friends - we’d love
to have a full house for this wonderful
performance!

When we are prescribed a new medication, it is
important to know which foods, if any, will affect
how well the medication works.
Some important diet-related questions to ask our
doctor or pharmacist are:
Does it matter if I take my medication on a full
or empty stomach?
May I drink alcohol while on this medication?
Are there certain foods or supplements I should
avoid while taking this medication?
Are there certain foods or supplements I should
start taking while on this medication?
Understanding which foods to avoid and which to
start eating while taking a new medication will help
avoid diet-related medication side effects.
Brought to you by: Licensed pharmacist Melanie
Foeppel, RPh, PharmD, and Pacific University.

Encore Opportunities
Here’s an idea for a great
holiday hearing gift this year!
If you have hearing loss and your family is looking
for hints on what to buy for “the parent who has
everything,” here’s an idea!
As you know, Cornell Estates has an assistive
hearing system in the Party Room for residents
attending travelogues, lectures, music, etc. Hearing
receiver units are lent on a first come/request basis
but we only have 6 of them, and they go quick at the
start of each event.
If you would like your own personal hearing
receiver unit to assure you have one to use at each
event, they cost about $100 and can be ordered
through Cornell Estates.
Sign up at the Front Desk for more
information on a great holiday
hearing gift!
