Prepared For: Corporate Planning Committee Meeting
Report No.: JM 2017‐03
Agenda Date: March 14, 2017 File No.: 6.3

Preamble
The following report outlines issues relating to all areas of the Information Technology department including NITGC members.
General
IT Infrastructure All major systems have been running smoothly with no major issues to report. We have been concentrating on completing hardware and software updates to all of our major systems. We continue to work closely with all departments to ensure that all current needs are met and to improve system efficiencies in areas that are needed.
Cemetery Mapping Project
Spring is approaching and the ITI department is gearing up to move ahead with the cemetery mapping project. The ITI department is currently taking the existing scanned plans of the cemetery and overlaying them onto the satellite imagery. This will allow us to digitize the plans to real world coordinates and have a visual and interactive representation of the cemetery. Once the digitization of the plots is complete a full database of existing plot information will be developed. This will allow us to have an accurate representation of the current status of the cemetery and allow the Municipality to better manage remaining plots. Once the snow has gone, the ITI department will be in the field locating the location of all of the aluminium pins that mark the plot rows. We will GPS all of the pins which will allow Infrastructure Services to more accurately locate and dig.

Data Capture Projects
By‐Law Infraction Mapping The ITI department continues to work with Infrastructure Services and Community Services to map locations where there have been by‐law infractions such as illegal parking, pushing snow on Municipal property, illegal use of recreational vehicles on Municipal property. The map is beneficial to the Municipality and law enforcement to better enforce infractions that are taking place. Attached is the updated map of the locations that have been collected.
Security Camera
We are moving forward with our capital budget project for 2017. This will see the installation of security cameras at the Community Centre, Tourist Information Centre, Landfill and an upgrade to Lion’s beach. We will also be adding additional equipment to the Council Chambers which will allow us to record audio and video of all meetings if required or wanted.
Website and Marketing
The ITI department has been concentrating on developing marketing materials for the Canada 150 event. We have also been working closely with Community Services to develop a social media strategy that will be more efficient in communicating events to the community. Attached are some of the Canada 150 graphics. Municipal Website New Website • AODA requirements • Update homepage for better display of public notices
NITGC
New Potential Partners The Municipality of Wawa has the opportunity to potentially increase the membership of the NITGC providing more revenue. We have met with the potential 4 new partners and given a presentation on the NITGC and services that we can provide. It looks promising that they will be joining our group in the near future. The ITI department will

Solar Project
The Municipality of Wawa applied to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) under the MicroFIT program to get approval for the installation of a 10KW solar project on the new municipal garage on Montreal Avenue. Although the OPA has previously approved 6 MicroFIT projects for the Municipality of Wawa in the past it has decided to decline the current application. The application was declined because the applicants name is the Municipality of Wawa and the property is registered under the Township of Michipicoten. Even though we provided the By‐Law that identifies the name change and that the two organizations are the same they still turned the application down. We are currently in the process involving the MPP’s office to get this ridiculous decision reversed. We will keep you informed of the progress.
