Hi To All, What a crazy rainy summer. But it looks like the skies are clearing up for a while. It’s time to take off the water wings and pontoons and start cruisin’! There have been a lot of rod runs and one day shows this summer. Seems like more than one on each weekend. Decisions, decisions. As a group club show that we attended was the Private Stock Car Show that was well at- tended by our members. Our 47 th Black Hills Rod Run was a GREAT SUCCESS, the skies were blue all weekend and lots of cars showed up this year. We didn’t have any club members break down this year; harder to shop for GAG AWARDS for the Awards Banquet. Thanks to Bob Mallow and his crew for the great job that they did! The Downtown Cruiser Car Show on Sunday after the Run I thought went quite well. There may have been fewer cars but I think they will be back in force next year thanks to all the COUNTS that helped park cars and eat donuts. We have picked up some NEW MEMBERS which I am really glad as we can always use new blood and ideas. The next big event will be Kool Deadwood Nites that is always a great time and tons of HOT RODS! Stay Safe and DRIVE’ EM! LYNN P.S. A Good Bye to a fellow Hot Rodder and past Counts member, SMOKEY LIEN and our deepest sympathy to Glen Schild who lost his mother! Dan and Barb Duncan have been members of the Counts

for almost 20 years, 19 to be exact. Dan has had his 1955 Chevy

Bel Air hardtop since Barb bought it in 1988. It was originally put togeth-er with the help of several friends from theCounts. Dan and Barb have put lots of mileson the car over the years. In 1998 Danbrought the International back from thefamily farm in eastern South Dakota as it

was originally owned by his dad and then passed on to a brother then asister and then Dan. Dan’s 1948 International pickup took a few years tocomplete. This pickup was a frame off and includes a small block Chevyconversion and automatic. It has all the creature comfort options and alsohas the box slighty shortened to make it more appealing to the eye. The color is a bright orange, whichwas Dan’s old business, the Fence Connection’s, trademark color. Their “Binder” pickup is an attentiongetter and won old rod of the year just last year.

Dan and Barb are both retired now and enjoy touring the country and Canada and wintering in Arizo-na in their motor home and enjoying their kids and grand kids in Rapid City. Dan is also very active inthe Counts.

BOONDOCKS IS NOW HISTORY AFTER SUCCESFUL AUCTION OF PROPERTY AND CARS

June 30th, 2015, will go down in history as the day a famous 50’s and 60’s attraction was sold in an abso-lute auction by the auctioneers of the Martin Jurisch Auction Firm. The day was bright and sunny and hun-dreds of potential buyers and a lot of interested spectators alike were onthe grounds to see the famous Boondocks restaurant, store, gas station, antique cars and motorcycles and Carnival Rides go on the auctionblock. I was there for about 3/4 of the auction and saw the property gofor about a third of a million and all the cars, trucks, cycles and misc. vehi-cles top way over 100,000 thousand. There was a lot of memorabilia thatsold for a good price. I don’t know what the restaurant supplies and oth-er cooking stuff went for. All in all, Ron and Lisa Jorgenson should beable to retire with all this out of their hair. Good Luck! JN

In the last issue of the Streetin’ News I had the obitfor Monny Truman, one of our club members thatdeveloped a certain type of mouth cancer and wentthrough a lot of serious chemo and radiation treat-ments before moving to Pierre to be with his daugh-ter and her family. He passed away in May and willbe missed by all the clubs in SD that he has be-longed to over the years.

Happy Cruisin’ on that sweet highway in heaven,MONNY!

Another former clubmember from wayback in the late 50’s,

Smokey Lien passed away on July 24th. His just finished Model A was in theCounts Car Show thanks in part to John Stauffacher’s efforts over the pastyear. Obit and history elsewhere in this issue.

On another sad note I got the word that good ole Tex Smith passed away June11th. Tex was the co-founder of the Street Rod Nationals along with TomMedley. Now two historical street rodders and famous people in the publishing world are history. Tex was thefirst editor of Street Rodder magazine and also was the editor of Old Cars Weekly when I invited him to be theguest speaker at the Counts 25th Anniversary Reunion at the Ramkota motel in 1983. He came back again inthe early 90’s and was our guest speaker. He was a ’cool’ guy and originally lived in Montana.

Now to get to the currant business, ROD RUNS and outdoor CAR SHOWS. As was predicted there was noshortage of places to go on any set weekend, sometimes several events on the same weekend. Ann and I triedto make as many as possible and the coverage is in this issue. I hope you made a bunch too and if you took anypictures send them to me and a short recap of the event and where it was and I’ll include it in the Streetin’News!

Ann and I made it to the 125 Anniversary 4th of July parade in Piedmont and were blown away by the fantas-tic car and spectator turnout. There must have been over 100 antique and classic and hot rods on hand. Hardtelling what 2016 will bring.

Another project of the Counts, their summer Swap Meet was quite successful. It was a hot July Sunday but that didn’tkeep the vendors or buyers away. Thanks again to Denny Vollmer for all his hard work publicizing this event!

Hope most of you got to attend a few outdoor car shows and let everyone know that the Counts are really active.

We haven’t been to the ‘Classics in thePark” car show in Chadron Nebraskafor many years. Up until this year itwas usually on the same weekend asthe Black Hills Rod Run. This year itwas a week later and fell on the sameweekend as the Dickenson Rod Run.We decided to head south along with3 other club members. Vern Hook hadhis SSR on display, John and RoseStauffacher went down Friday andspent the weekend at the differentevents that took place. Glen Schildbrought his Trans Am Firebird freshout of the upholstery shop and itlooked good. The Neuzils had their‘49 Studebaker on display too and gota lot of cool comments. All in all theirwere about 90 entries and WilsonPark is a beautiful setting for a carshow. Rapid City was well represent-ed in entries as well as prize winners.

Plan to put this show on your list ofplaces to go next year! JN

By JIM NEUZIL ROD RUN COVERAGEThis years Black Hills Rod Run started off with quite a few out of state entries. 3 couples came from southernCalifornia, one from Texas, one from Minnesota, one from Arizona and several from Colorado, Nebraska andWyoming. The total entries were about average and the events were well received. The poker run on Fridayhad about 20 taking part in the cruise to the southern Black Hills. This was followed by the Ice Cream social, one of 3, and included a special 60th wedding anniversary party for Guy and Esther Allen from San Diego,California, that have attended our run many times over the past 12 or 13 years! This was followed by a WhiteElephant gift exchange that just gets better every year. This was followed by more cake and ice cream andfinished off the first day of the Black Hills Rod Run.
