Howdy all, I have been a bad boy. I didn't get myhomework done on time and so I missed the last month'spaper deadline. This time as I write this it is not even due for3 more days! My old teachers would be so proud. Wow therehas been lots of things happening as of late. Additions to theboard, change of staff at the Cowboy, fundraiser rodeo, CaseyBrown Roping and so much more.

In an effort to strengthen the MRCA/WCS board weadvertised specific jobs, volunteer positions and subcommittees that we needed filled and our call was answered.We have a new sponsorship co-coordinator; Mike Waddell aswell as a new marketing/promotions coordinator Gary Potter.Both of these men are from outside our traditional circle buthave ties to rodeo and agriculture. Their enthusiasm andgenuine excitement to be involved has been refreshing to usall.

I’d like to send a big shout out to the Brown Family fordoing an amazing job of the first annual Casey BrownMemorial roping. It was a big roping and it looked and felt likea big roping should, very professional and well run. It was agreat day, a great roping and a great opportunity to visit,reminisce and most importantly have fun.

The annual fundraiser rodeo was once again a hugesuccess with a new home this year. This year was our secondbest total entry ever! We saw some different faces entered thisyear and we had great support from both the West & the East.

The board takes this as great compliment, acompliment to the direction we are going and the finals weare producing. Some great volunteers banded together, tookon jobs and drew in some much needed outside help (Thanksto all the Rodeo Moms and Dads) and got er done. The gateand the canteen both were also hugely successful right fromthe awesome breakfast to the best pork on a bun ever.

Something that did not go unnoticed was the lack ofsupport or interest in our rough stock end of the arena! I knowthere are all kinds of reasons why the chutes were not full,(other events on, no money up, blah, blah) and I will havefriends from that end of the arena mad that I mentioned thisbut it is starting to be reminiscent of a bad one sidedrelationship and it is getting awful hard to bend overbackwards and cater to people who do not return the favor, Ithink its disrespectful, enough said.

Before I go I would like to say that this will be the last issueof "the Cowboy" with now editor Michelle Davey at the helm.Michelle has decided to step back but has offered to continueto help with the Cowboy and its transition to a new editor andhome. Michelle is not only the outgoing editor of "TheCowboy" but also its creator and so on behalf of everyoneinvolved I would like to say thank you.

show schedule for 2012. Many thanks to theDoucettes and their committee for a great show onSaturday May 28th. Unfortunately the skies openedup and we were rained out on Sunday. That was notthe case at Chalanchuk acres on June 23 and 24.The first official weekend of the summer was fan-tastic and a great time was had by all. We mustthank our show committees for all their hard workin hosting our pennings every year. Without theircommitment and the help of many volunteers, wewouldn’t have the successful shows.

President’s Message Holly GardinerThe 2012 Heartland Rodeo season is officially underway!Congratulations to St. Claude and Miami rodeo committees for yet again hosting fantastic rodeos! Thank you to the volunteerson both committees for the countless hours spent preparing for the event and during the weekend of the rodeos! Barrel racers – I would like to remind you that there are duties associated with your event! The first two membership holdingbarrel racers in the performance are required to take down timers (including taking them apart and placing them back in theircases). The last two membership holding barrel racers are required to set up timers. If you are designated barrel rep for theperformance, there are duties associated with this. A list of these duties is available on the website, or contact the barrel di-rector for more information. It is important that these duties are followed and that items such as the timers, barrel covers, etcare looked after. It is important for all members to read the rulebook and be familiar with the rules for their event and the general rules – in-cluding the rules regarding turning out of rodeos. The rulebook is what guides our association, and those rules will be enforced.Not knowing the rules will not be considered a reason for not following them. I look forward to our upcoming rodeos and visiting the communities on our schedule!

Cowboy & Cowgirl Nomination SystemNominations for Cowboy and Cowgirl of the Year will be taken by the HRA Board of Directors until Aug 1st, 2012.

To nominate, please complete the Nomination Form and forward it to the HRA Office. HRA Board will select 3 to be voted on bythe membership for each award.
