D&C 77:12

12 Q. What are we to understand by the sounding of thetrumpets, mentioned in the 8th chapter of Revelation?

A. We are to understand that as God made the world insix days, and on the seventh day he finished his work, andsanctified it, and also formed man out of the dust of theearth, even so, in the beginning of the seventh thousandyears will the Lord God sanctify the earth, and complete thesalvation of man, and judge all things, and shall redeem allthings, except that which he hath not put into his power,when he shall have sealed all things, unto the end of allthings; and the sounding of the trumpets of the seven angelsare the preparing and finishing of his work, in thebeginning of the seventh thousand years--the preparing ofthe way before the time of his coming.

Genesis 2

4 These are the generations [Heb. accounts] of theheavens and of the earth when they were created, inthe day that the LORD God made the earth and theheavens,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in theearth, and every herb of the field before it grew: forthe LORD God had not caused it to rain upon theearth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

6 But there went up a mist from the earth, andwatered the whole face of the ground.

7 And the LORD God formed man [Heb. word is adam,

pronounced ad-AM] of the dust of the ground, andbreathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and manbecame a living soul.

Creation of the Garden

8 ¶ And the LORD God planted a garden eastwardin Eden; and there he put the man whom he hadformed.

9 And out of the ground made the LORD God togrow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, andgood for food; the tree of life also in the midst of thegarden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

10 And a river went out of Eden to water thegarden; and from thence it was parted, and becameinto four heads.

Moses 3

4 And now, behold, I say unto you, that these arethe generations [Heb. accounts] of the heaven and of theearth, when they were created, in the day that I, theLord God, made the heaven and the earth,

5 And every plant of the field before it was in theearth, and every herb of the field before it grew. ForI, the Lord God, created all things, of which I havespoken, spiritually, before they were naturally uponthe face of the earth. For I, the Lord God, had notcaused it to rain upon the face of the earth. And I,the Lord God, had created all the children of men;and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heavencreated I them; and there was not yet flesh upon theearth, neither in the water, neither in the air;

6 But I, the Lord God, spake, and there went up amist from the earth, and watered the whole face ofthe ground.

7 And I, the Lord God, formed man [Heb. word is adam,

pronounced ad-AM] of from the dust of the ground, andbreathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and manbecame a living soul, the first flesh upon the earth,the first man also; nevertheless, all things werebefore created; but spiritually were they created andmade according to my word.

Creation of the Garden

8 And I, the Lord God, planted a garden eastwardin Eden, and there I put the man whom I had formed.

9 And out of the ground made I, the Lord God, togrow every tree, naturally, that is pleasant to thesight of man; and man could behold it. And itbecame also a living soul. For it was spiritual in theday that I created it; for it remaineth in the sphere inwhich I, God, created it, yea, even all things whichI prepared for the use of man; and man saw that itwas good for food. And I, the Lord God, planted thetree of life also in the midst of the garden, and also

Marriage between a man and a woman is fundamental tothe Lord’s doctrine and crucial to God’s eternal plan.Marriage between a man and a woman is God’s pattern fora fulness of life on earth and in heaven. God’s marriagepattern cannot be abused, misunderstood, or misconstrued.Not if you want true joy. God’s marriage pattern protectsthe sacred power of procreation and the joy of true maritalintimacy. We know that Adam and Eve were married byGod before they experienced the joy of uniting as husbandand wife (see Genesis 2:24-25; 3:20-21; 4:1-2, 25).(Teachings of Russell M. Nelson [2018], 192-3).

Spencer W. Kimball (1895-1985) President of the Church

I defend the term normal because the Lord set the norm himself by bringing Adam and Eve, his first male and firstfemale on this earth, and performing a holy marriage tomake them husband and wife. They were quite different intheir makeup, with different roles to play. Hardly had heperformed the ceremony that he said to them: “Multiply,and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion”(Gen. 1:28).

It is normal to marry and normal and proper to bearchildren. Every person should want and plan to be marriedbecause that is what God in heaven planned for us. That is

the way he worked it out. (Teachings of Presidents of the

Church: Spencer W. Kimball [2006], 192)

Gordon B. Hinckley (1910-2008) President of the Church

In His grand design, when God first created man, Hecreated a duality of the sexes. The ennobling expression ofthat duality is found in marriage. One individual iscomplementary to the other.

In the marriage companionship there is neither inferioritynor superiority. The woman does not walk ahead of theman; neither does the man walk ahead of the woman. Theywalk side by side as a son and daughter of God on aneternal journey.

Marriage, in its truest sense, is a partnership of equals,with neither exercising dominion over the other, but, rather,with each encouraging and assisting the other in whateverresponsibilities and aspirations he or she might have.

Wives, look upon your husbands as your preciouscompanions and live worthy of that association. Husbands,see in your wives your most valued asset in time or eternity,each a daughter of God, a partner with whom you can walkhand in hand, through sunshine and storm, through all the

perils and triumphs of life. (Teachings of Presidents of the

Church: Gordon B. Hinckley [2016], 157)

The Fall of Satan

Moses 4

1 And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying:That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the nameof mine Only Begotten, is the same which was fromthe beginning, and he came before me,saying--Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son,and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall notbe lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give methine honor.

2 But, behold, my Beloved Son, which was myBeloved and Chosen from the beginning, said untome--Father, thy will be done, and the glory be thineforever.

3 Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled againstme, and sought to destroy the agency of man, whichI, the Lord God, had given him, and also, that Ishould give unto him mine own power; by the powerof mine Only Begotten, I caused that he should becast down;

4 And he became Satan, yea, even the devil, thefather of all lies, to deceive and to blind men, and tolead them captive at his will, even as many as wouldnot hearken unto my voice.

The Fall

1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beastof the field which the LORD God had made. And hesaid unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shallnot eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We mayeat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midstof the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it,neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shallnot surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eatthereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shallbe as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree wasgood for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes,and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she tookof the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also untoher husband with her; and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, andthey knew that they were naked; and they sewed figleaves together, and made themselves aprons.

The Accounting

8 And they heard the voice of the LORD Godwalking in the garden in the cool of the day: andAdam and his wife hid themselves from thepresence of the LORD God amongst the trees of thegarden.

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and saidunto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden,and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hidmyself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wastnaked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof Icommanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thougavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and Idid eat.

13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, Whatis this that thou hast done? And the woman said,The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

The Fall

5 And now the serpent was more subtle than anybeast of the field which I, the Lord God, had made.

6 And Satan put it into the heart of the serpent, (forhe had drawn away many after him,) and he soughtalso to beguile Eve, for he knew not the mind of God,wherefore he sought to destroy the world.

7 And he said unto the woman: Yea, hath Godsaid–Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?(And he spake by the mouth of the serpent.)

8 And the woman said unto the serpent: We mayeat of the fruit of the trees of the garden;

9 But of the fruit of the tree which thou beholdestin the midst of the garden, God hath said–Ye shallnot eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

10 And the serpent said unto the woman: Ye shallnot surely die;

11 For God doth know that in the day ye eatthereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shallbe as gods, knowing good and evil.

12 And when the woman saw that the tree wasgood for food, and that it became pleasant to theeyes, and a tree to be desired to make her wise, shetook of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and also gaveunto her husband with her, and he did eat.

13 And the eyes of them both were opened, andthey knew that they had been naked. And they sewedfig-leaves together and made themselves aprons.

Adam held the priesthood. Eve served in a matriarchalpartnership with the patriarchal priesthood. So today, eachwife may join with her husband as a partner unified inpurpose. . . Ordinary and imperfect people can build eachother through wholeness together. The completecontribution of one partner to the other is essential toexaltation. This is so “that the earth might answer the end ofits creation.” (D&C 49:16).

So labor in love and partnership. Honor your companion.Any sense of competition for place or position is notappropriate for either partner, especially when enlightened

by scriptural understanding. (Teachings of Russell M. Nelson

[2018], 196).

There is a difference in the way the priesthood functionsin the home as compared to the way it functions in theChurch. In the Church our service is by call. In the home ourservice is by choice. A call in the Church is generallytemporary for there comes a release. However, our plac einthe home and family which is based on choice, is foreverand beyond.

In the Church there is a distinct line of authority. Weserve where we are called by those who preside over us.

In the home it is a partnership with husband and wifeequally yoked together, sharing the decisions, alwaysworking together. While the husband, the father, hasresponsibility to provide worthy and inspired leadership, hiswife is neither behind him nor ahead of him but at his side.(“The Relief Society,” Ensign, May 1998, pp. 72-74).
