Michael Mitchell – Canada is for Kids

We are very excited to have Michael Mitchell, an award-winning singer and

songwriter, visiting Crossroads on Wednesday, March 2nd at 9:15 a.m. to perform

Canada is for Kids! This show will be for our JK to Grade 3 students and will be a

that teaches us all why we should be happy and proud to be living in this great

country.

So, break out your favourite Red and White clothing, dig out your Canadian flags and

hats and join in the fun! Families are more than welcome to join us, and we’ll even

provide you with a song sheet so you can sing along.

Michael will also have a good supply of his popular CDs and other items on hand for sale. You can select from

CDs ($15 each), music books ($20), colouring books ($3), I LOVE CANADA sticker sheets ($1) and waterless

BEAVER tattoos (3 for $1). Can't decide? Get a big Bundle Pack (3 CDs, music book, colouring book, and big

sticker sheet) all for just $50 (you save $20).

We want to thank your School Council for sponsoring this show for our students!

Claude HAGGERTY – Magic That Matters!

encourage children of all ages to follow their dreams.

Claude Haggerty will be performing an evening show at Crossroads on Wednesday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m. in

support of NOTL Fire Stations. Admission is $15 or just $8 with a non-perishable food item that will be

donated to Newark Neighbours.

Mr. Haggerty adds; “It is not every day a family may go out together for a fun filled, inspirational evening for

only $40 and you are supporting a great cause as well. Makes for a great community event.”

Please join us for the

8th Annual

NOTL Home Show!

Saturday, March 5th, 2016

The Crossroads School Council is very excited about our

upcoming event.

Please bring your family, friends and neighbors! There is

something for everyone: Vendors, Exhibitors,

Demonstrations, BBQ, Bake Sale and Silent Auction. The

more people who attend our show, the more vendors will

want to participate in future years. We need a BIG

crowd to ensure that the event is successful this year,

and in years to come.

Volunteers are still needed! If you are able to lend a

hand with the HOME SHOW please contact the office.

We appreciate any help that you can give!

Proceeds of our event will go toward the purchase and

installation of park benches on our school yard.

Thank you

for your support!

From Your School Nurse - Immunizations

Immunizations begin in early infancy and continue throughout life.

Your child will receive the majority of his or her immunizations

between the ages of two months and six years of age. Please take a

moment to check your child’s Immunization Record (yellow card) to be

sure his or her immunizations are up-to-date. Immunizations work

best when given on time.

For more information on childhood immunization, including the

immunization schedule, speak with your doctor or visit

www.health.gov.on.ca.

If you have further questions, please call the Vaccine Preventable

Disease Program at Niagara Region Public Health at 905-688-8248 or

1-888-505-6074 ext. 7425 to speak to a public health nurse.

Making Safe Lunches at Home

Packing lunches for school takes time and energy but taking the time to follow these tips could prevent a

foodborne illness in your family.

1. CLEAN

Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and warm water before preparing any meal.

Make sure you routinely clean countertops, utensils and any lunchboxes or lunch bags.

Raw fruits or vegetables can be contaminated with bacteria. Wash them with clean water

and a scrub brush before eating.

2. KEEP COLD FOOD COLD

Foods like meat, chicken, seafood, eggs and dairy products must stay cold to stay safe. Use

frozen freezer packs to keep food at or below 4C (40F).

Use an insulated lunch box/bag and keep it away from heat sources. Place freezer packs

between food that needs to stay cold. Refrigerate items the night before to get your lunch

box/bag off to a cool start.

3. KEEP HOT FOOD HOT

Hot food must stay hot at above 60C (140F). Use insulated containers and keep them closed

until ready to eat, or take your food cold and reheat it in a microwave.

Please keep in mind that any leftover food items coming home in your child’s back pack can carry bacteria or have

the ability to support bacterial growth. These bacteria can grow rapidly to harmful levels when food safety

precautions are not followed. If these items have not been properly stored, place them in your green bin, do not

consume them.

Hair Donations As spring is around the corner, Miss Elder is excited to announce that ten students have agreed to donate their hair in May. We are incredibly proud of these Coyotes and can't wait to see their new hairstyles. We are

seeking local hairstylists who would like to volunteer their time to help us with our hair donation event. Our event will take place on the morning of Tuesday, May 17. Our goal is to have a hairstylist for each of the students donating. As we have many hairstylists who have already agreed, we are only seeking a few more. Please share this message with friends, family, and local hair salons. Hairstylists are welcome to email [email protected] for more information. All hair will be donated to Wigs for Kids and Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

Fresh Air Fund

The Fresh Air Fund is always looking for a few more special families to discover the difference they can

make in a child's life while enriching their own family’s summer experience.

Summertime is Fresh Air time for thousands of New York City children who visit volunteer host families

in the Northeast, United States and Ontario, Canada through The Fresh Air Fund's Volunteer Host

Family Program. The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer

experiences in the country to more than 1.8 million children since 1877. Volunteer host families open

their hearts and homes to New York City children during the summer. Host families live in the suburbs,

small towns, or rural areas, and wish to share the pure joys of summer with their New York City friends.

Fresh Air children love to run barefoot through the grass, catch fireflies at night, swim in the lake, and

gaze at star-filled skies. Through the eyes of Fresh Air children, families often rediscover the beauty

of their own communities.

For more information on how you can sign up to become a volunteer host this summer, please contact

Jeannete Murphy at [email protected] or Christine Ferrusi 905-541-

1828 [email protected] or visit www.freshair.org. Like us on Facebook - The Fresh Air

Fund of Ontario, Canada

For their smaller animals they would like Martin-Brand food. They are in desperate need of toys for cats, such as catnip toys, treat dispensing

toys, jingle toys, and scratching posts of any kind.

Tickets for our ANIMAL AID RAFFLE will be on sale at second nutrition break during the campaign to raise money for the LCHS.

1 ticket for $1 or 3 tickets for $2 for the chance to win an amazing pet themed gift basket!
