From the desk of Dr. Robert Andrews www.floridachristian.org SPRING/SUMMER 2018 Headmaster’s Pen Spring/Summer 2018 According to the website ISIDEWITH.com the top six social issues of 2018 are: (1) Abortion; (2) LGBT Adoption Rights; (3) Religious Freedom Act; (4) Planned Parenthood Funding; (5) Gay Marriage; and (6) Gender Identity. Various groups represent both sides of all these issues and consider those who oppose their way of thinking to be unjust in their thinking and that the government should do more, or less, to prevent what they believe to be social injustice for or against the perpetrators of these injustices. In the Bible, Solomon spoke of the injustices he observed in the society that he lived in, and how it appeared in places where seemingly justice should prevail. Ecclesiastes 3:16- 17, “I also noticed under the sun there is evil in the courtroom. Yes, even the courts of law are corrupt. I said to myself, in due season God will judge everyone, both good and bad, for all their deeds.” Injustice takes place whenever and wherever people are not treated as being created in the image of God. God’s people should seek to view life from the vantage point of the oppressed and work to help those who are victims of injustice. But when injustice takes place in the courts or in the government, as mentioned in the Book of Solomon, what are we to do? Governments and courts are supposed to ensure human rights, but sometimes they are the source of oppression. A wise citizen obeys the laws of government and adheres to the edicts of the courts. But when government becomes the oppressor, people of faith should trust God and follow the lawful and appropriate procedures that will illicit change in the government. Solomon talked about the victims of oppression. Most of us in America don’t really know what true oppression is and what it is like to be a victim. In Ecclesiastes 4:1-1, he said, “I observed the oppression that takes place under the sun. I saw the tears of the oppressed, with no one to comfort them. The oppressors have great power, and their victims are helpless.” Solomon’s advice was to look at the tears of the oppressed. He concluded that if we look into the eyes of those who are oppressed, we will work toward solutions to solving it. Of all the injustices known to man, there is only one that stands out as the greatest by far. Jesus Christ was the recipient of a gross injustice. He never sinned. He was holy, with a pure heart, and absolutely good. He did nothing and had nothing in his heart or in his being deserving of the evil he suffered. He was the greatest example of injustice in the entire history of the world. But from this unfathomable injustice toward him, Jesus conquered all injustice because of what he did, even though each of us is guilty of terrible sin in our lives. He looked into our eyes, had mercy on us, and offered us a way out. Many of those who founded America knew and embraced God’s example of dealing with injustice. America has always been and continues to be a nation that responds to injustice, both in our country and around the world. If America continues on a path to change its love for individual freedom that it was founded to insure, then America will lose its compassion and willingness to oppose oppression in the rest of the world. SPRING/SUMMER 2018

Headmaster’s PenSpring/Summer 2018

According to the website ISIDEWITH.com the top six social issues of 2018 are: (1) Abortion; (2) LGBT Adoption Rights; (3) Religious Freedom Act; (4) Planned Parenthood Funding; (5) Gay Marriage; and (6) Gender Identity.

Ecclesiastes 3:16-17, “I also noticed under the sun there is evil in the courtroom. But when

government becomes the oppressor, people of faith should trust God and follow the lawful and appropriate procedures that will illicit change in the government.

America has

always been and continues to be a nation that responds to injustice, both in our country and around the world. If America continues on a path to change its love for individual freedom that it was founded to insure, then America will lose its compassion and willingness

to oppose oppression in the rest of the world.(Continued on page 2)

(Continued from page 1)In the United States Constitution, the founding fathers envisioned a government with limited power. This is why they created a representative republic with a provision for a separation of

powers. The last thing the early patriots wanted was a government which would micromanage their personal lives or businesses. I believe that people in America, including us as Christians, should take note of the path that our

nation is on that would bring government into every aspect of our lives, and which causes the people to place their trust in the political system rather than in the God who is the ultimate judge.
