The summer has come to a close. The

countdown to the first day of school has

begun. There’s a nervous energy that

surrounds your spirit, and your mind races.

Only a few more days until the summer break

is over. Only a few more days until you have

to have your classroom ready. Only a few

more days until lessons need to be prepared.

Only a few more days until you meet your

“kids.” Only a few more days until it all

begins again…

Summer is that time of renewal—time to

reflect on “last” year and plan for “this” year.

And now that summer is finished, our

profession as educators is at hand. Our

minds should feel refreshed after our “break”

from the school routines, from our students,

from our colleagues, from our daily tasks.

Now is the time to take what Maya Angelou

said to heart. We all have much more to

learn—about our students, about our

curriculum, about our profession. Take the

time to renew your mind as you begin another

year as an educator.
