Our club, The Rotary Club of Elmbrook is in District 6270.
The District covers southeastern Wisconsin.
Rotary International is governed by a president and a board of directors elected from all over the world.

The first Rotary Club was organized in Chicago in 1905, by Paul P. Harris.

The club, with four members, met in rotation at the offices of the members - thus the name Rotary.
There are currently 28,018 clubs with 1,188,172 members.
Women in RotaryWomen in Rotary
In 1987 women were admitted to Rotary.
Today the number of women in clubs is increasing with many clubs having women serving as presidents.
For the Rotary year 1996-1997 there are 15 women governors, fourteen from North America and one from Manila, Philippines.

Rotary was not long to recognize that fellowship alone would not keep a group together — there needed to be a purpose.
First project was public washrooms in downtown Chicago.
Rotary became the world’s first “service club”.
