The Word of Truth Part II

By John B. Jenkins

Disappointments at the Judgement!

Many religious people will learn, to their dismay, that we must have more than an inclination toward

worship to be accepted in that day. Too much activity of our day is based upon the false premise that just

so one believes in God he can do as he pleases in religion. The authority of Christ in all matters pertaining

to our salvation is ignored, and the will of man is followed. But the Jews, in Jerusalem on the Pentecost

after our Lord was raised from the grave, were religionist who believed in God. (Acts 2:5). They had

assembled there from every nation under heaven to keep a religious feast. (Deut. 16:16). Yet they had

‘the gospel, the power of God unto salvation’ (Rom. 1:16) preached unto them. They were instructed to

’repent and be baptized for the remission of sins’, (Acts 2:38) and no person is prepared for the judgment

whose sins have not been remitted.

The Eunuch from Ethiopia had been to Jerusalem to worship (Acts 8:27). Although he had travelled many

miles, the Old Law with which he was complying had been blotted out (Col.2:14) and he had to hear the

gospel and obey it. God dispatched Philip from Samaria in order that this religious man might hear of

Christ. (Acts 8:26-39). After he had completed his obedience in baptism, he resumed his homeward

journey with rejoicing. Cornelius was also a devout man, who feared God with all his house, which gave

much alms to the people, and prayed to God always.’ (Acts 10:2). Yet he was not saved. (Acts 11:14), and

had he failed to comply with instructions to send for the apostle Peter, he would have been turned away

at the judgment despite his religious deeds. The fact that these religious people, along with Saul, Lydia,

and others who were worshippers of God, had to obey the gospel in order to be saved demonstrates to

us that merely being religious is not enough. The world is filled with religious people but, are they ready

for the judgment. (Romans 10: 1-3).

In the passage from Matt. 7:22-23 Jesus stated: ’Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, in thy name

we have prophesied'. They will claim to have worked for the Lord and will still be lost. To prophesy

means to teach, or sometimes to foretell. Many are teaching in the name of Christ today who are

teaching the doctrine of man (Matt. 15:9). Surely anyone who would pervert the gospel of Christ must

admit that they have been warned of the disastrous results of such action. (Galatians 1:6-9). ’In thy

Name we have cast out devils’ they will continue. Too much preaching is done just to get men to cease

their meanness. A man is not a Christian until he is a new creature! He is a new creature when he is in

Christ. (II Cor5:17), and baptism is the act of obedience which put us into Christ. (Romans 6:3; Galatians

3:27). To much of modern preaching omits baptism altogether, thereby stopping short of making a new

creation of man. The result is that they only succeed in ’casting out devils’ from those who cease some

sinful practice after hearing such preaching. ’And in thy Name have done many wonderful works', they

will add. Wonderful by whose standards? Have they won the acclaim of men? Jesus then states that He

will order their departure from his presence as workers of iniquity. “All Scripture, will furnish the man of

God to every good work’ (II Tim. 3:17). It is the revelation of the will of God, and only ’they who do the

will of the Father will enter the Kingdom of Heaven’. (Matt. 7:21). Will you enter, or be disappointed at

the judgment?

The Cracked Acorn

America July 16, 2017

c.r. van arsdall

Sometimes the news media may give the audience the impression there is a number of things wrong with America. I admit I do get the blues about our country and I need the AQUA VELVA slap to wake me up and get a grip on reality. What are the GOOD THINGS about America?

Many love the free-enterprise system that offers a career in any of the fifty states. The door is open to let one decide when and where one may live, enjoy life and a rich rewarding work environment. This is a country that loves change and it can happen with or without the authority of the ballot box. You do not need a visa or an identity card to travel the length and breadth of America. We are a blended people caring for those in need. An immigrant put it this way. I came to America because, "I really wanted to live in a country where the poor people are fat".

1. Wild Nature. No other country as much accessibility to wild nature.

2. Freedom to Vagabond. Travel where and when you want by bus, train, car, bicycle or motorcycle. It could even be a 1969 VW hippie van.

3. Cheap Clothing. Americans enjoy plenty of clothing. Garage sales can outfit you with everything for a low price. (an interesting point, see-Genesis 3:8)

4. The Internet. It has allowed everyone to use and express their opinions. It is the voice of free speech.

5. Cheap Gas. Even at today's prices, still are affordable when compared to other countries.

6. Cheap Food. In some countries the family can only

enjoy one meal during the day. Economically priced food is readily available in America. There has not been a death in many years simply because of a lack of enough food. It is the land of fast food places.

7. Good Roads. Interstate and state roads are paved to take the traveler to any location.

8. A Diversity of Diversion. Sounds high brow, but really means you make your own mature decisions on what is mindless and what isn't.

9. Good Tools. When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they brought with them the tools to work the land and build houses. America provides the best to build the home of your dreams or to fix the family car when it breaks down.

10. Inherent Decency. America is a rainbow of colors and a blend of many races. We react quickly to help those caught in a tornado, flash flood, earthquake or to just turn out in numbers to find a child lost in the woods. Somehow we'll find a way to help you or elect law makers that can.

But the LORD said, "I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their cry of complaint against their slave drivers, so I know well what they are suffering. Therefore I have come down to rescue them from the hands of the Egyptians and lead them out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. (Exodus 3:7,8)

"So, pilgrim, you'd better holster that frown and grin from ear to ear when I say AMERICA or it's slap leather time!” (John Wayne -AMERICA,WHY I LOVE HER!)

Psalms 119:104 –106 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. 106 I have sworn and confirmed That I will keep Your righteous judgments.

Our understanding of the world we live in begins at birth and grows expediently most every minute of our life from that day forward. By the time we reach an age of understanding right and wrong our familiarity with this world has been influenced by many different factors.

The main factors affecting our life in this world are our family, friends, future goals and the guidelines we set to achieve those goals. In fact we are pretty well equipped for life in society and on this planet. But what if these factors give us false or different signals? How will we know if following these teachings are ultimately beneficial for our entire life?

We gain true knowledge in the precepts of God. His word shows us the way to proceed through our lives. All who dedicated their lives to keep them will enjoy life in this world and life in the hereafter.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
