The Essentials of Running a Global Health Center:SHARING BEST PRACTICES AND BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE FUTUREMonday, November 5, 2012

Overview/Statement of NeedCurrently, there is unprecedented interest in global health on the part of students and faculty. We are all seeking answers to many of the same questions and situations. Universities banding together on global health can learn from each other, and demonstrate to the world what works best. This includes forging collaborations and promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience in global health across disciplines in universities today.

As the number of recently formed and relatively new academic global health centers grows, and as the interest in global health and numbers of centers increases, we seek to bring the leadership and faculty of centers from around the country together for a day of discussing issues that we all face with the hope of sharing and learning from each other.

GoalsThe purpose of this conference is bring the leadership and faculty of academic global health centers together for a day of sharing experiences and best practices of running global health centers and to further explore and review these essential areas:

• Developing a Global Health Center (GHC)

• Strategies for GHC to integrate effectively into the university system

• The educational mission of a GHC

• GHC for whom? How to build balanced partnerships in the field
