The Gandhi Centre is the Cultural wing of Embassy of India in The Hague. It aims to
encourage and promote Indian knowledge and culture within The Netherlands by organizing
regular events showcasing various cultural art forms of India such as music, dance and
cinema. The centre also organizes regular talks on different aspects of India from time to
time. The facilities at the Gandhi Centre are available to all for performances, conducting
lectures and workshops.

Saturday, 07th April 2018
Walk – In : 16 30 hrs
Program : 17 00 hrs – 18 44 hrs
The movie stars Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher. Set between 2 pm and 6 pm on a Wednesday, the film depicts an about-to-retire police commissioner (Anupam Kher) narrating
a sequence of events that unfolded on a particular Wednesday. No written record of the event
exists and the awareness of the incident exists only in his mind and those individuals who were involved, willingly or unwillingly, and how those events affected the lives of all the
concerned people. It won a number of awards including the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the 56th National Film Awards.
The movie will be screened in the auditorium of The Gandhi Centre
HINDI MOVIE
A WEDNESDAY (104 minutes)
Saturday, 14th April 2018
Ambedkar Jayanti, birthday of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, is observed on 14 April to
commemorate the memory of B. R. Ambedkar. On this day, we’d be screening a short movie on the life and works of Dr Ambedkar. It’ll be followed by traditional Indian Dhrupad singing
by Ms Meghana Sardar.
She is a disciple trained in the Dagar Parampara of Dhrupad and learnt it under guidance of Guru Pandit Uday Bhawalkar. She has been awarded the scholarship from the Ministry of
Culture and National Centre for Performing Arts and is a graded artist of the All India Radio for
Dhrupad.
Dhrupad is the most ancient style of Hindustani classical music and traces its origin to the text of Saamveda. The tradition of Dhrupad is a pristine musical experience of spiritual knowledge
and its performance is an act of devotion/prayer inducing feeling of peace and contemplation.

AMBEDKAR JAYANTI

Asses Chadha is founder and director of Nachanshah Dance School, New Delhi. She is a reputed dancer based in New Delhi who is an alumnus of Modern School, Barakhamba Road.
Her training in various dance forms over the course of 16 years is showcased in her classes, workshops, events and wedding choreographies. She previously worked in Raghubir Singh
Junior Modern School, G D Goenka Vasant Kunj and Modern School.
Ranging from Bollywood to Bhangra, Bharatnatyam to Belly dancing, and a fusion of them all,
her skills cover a wide variety of dance techniques.

Bhangra Workshop

Rabindra and Nazrul Joyontee is held each year to commemorate their contributions to the
Bengali culture and humanity. Every year, while celebrating the various forms or arts that Rabindra and Nazrul are remembered for, the people of Bangladesh also celebrate their
culture and heritage.
This year, to celebrate the birth anniversary of these two great literary minds, Embassy of Bangladesh in The Hague, would observe this Joyontee on 28th April.
A renowned Rabindra Song singer of Banladesh Mr Kaderi Kibria would perform in the event.
Besides, members of Bangladeshi community and few singers based in The Netherlands would sing popular Nazrul songs.

Regular Classes
The Gandhi Centre conducts Yoga, Hindi and Tabla classes. These classes are open to
everyone and are FREE of charge. The classes are designed to cater to all age groups and
levels, from beginners to advanced.
Yoga Class at The Gandhi Centre
YOGA
Mr Amit Khanna is a Yoga Therapist and Expert who has more than 8 years of experience in
Yoga therapy. He holds degrees in Physiotherapy and Yoga and is an expert in imparting and
designing yoga therapy protocol based on various medical conditions and life style disorders.
Yoga is a science and art of healthy living with origins in ancient India. It is a potent stress
management tool and its practice increases immunity and contributes to overall personality
development.
Hindi
Hindi Class at The Gandhi Centre
Dr Kanta Rani is an educationist and an enthusiastic teacher of Hindi. She has a Masters in
Hindi, PhD in education and over 25 years of teaching experience. She comes with rich
experience in promoting Hindi to non-Hindi speakers having taught Hindi in ICC Suriname and
written 3 textbooks and 1 conversation book on Hindi.
Hindi is one of the official languages of India and is a descendant of the ancient Indian
language Sanskrit. It is widely used in both India and Suriname.
The Gandhi Centre conducts regular classes for different levels offering a full linguistic
immersion.
TABLA
Tabla at The Gandhi Centre is taught by internationally acclaimed HeikoDijker, who
received years of traditional training from grandmaster Faiyaz Khan in India. Along with
concerts he gives classes in various Universities and Conservatories across the globe.

Overview of events organized by the Embassy during
March 2018
International Women’s Day 10th March 2018
International Women’s Day was celebrated in Gandhi Centre, Embassy of India on March 10, 2018. Along with cultural performances of Bharatnatyam and Odissi, there was an informative quiz, a motivational talk by an international model and fashion icon Ms. Darshini Khudabaks who shared her success story. The program was attended by over 100 persons.
Kathak Performance
23rd March 2018
Kathak, a North Indian classical dance performance by Sh Deodatt Persaud and group was held at the Gandhi Centre. The program was attended by over 50 people.
