Please remember St. Mark’s Church in your will.
A Note from Nancy – October 2019 What a wonderful weekend we just experienced! Bishop Price brought with him lots of love and joy. He received 5 people into the Episcopal Church, blessed our Morley’s dog and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Please welcome Faye Brown, Catty-Anne McCloskey, Erin Pavic, Samantha Shaffer, and D’Lisa Stewart to the St. Mark’s family the next time you see them. We are grateful to God for bringing them to us. October will be busy. We start with the Blessing of the Animals, Saturday, October 5th. Bring your pet(s) for a special blessing that day. Remember to have them in a carrier or on a leash so nobody gets loose and/or lost. I will bring the kitten we trapped in the courtyard so you all can see her. Later in the month we will be having another spaghetti luncheon. Please pass the word that the meatballs and the spaghetti sauce are homemade, not canned. Dessert will be homemade as well. On the 20th we will have a healing service as part of our Community Common Prayer at 6:30 PM. This month is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I know of several women, as well as my own brother, who have battled this disease and won. I also know women who have lost the battle and have now seen Jesus “face to face.” There are also many who continue to fight it every day. As the commercial on TV says, they are now living “a new normal life”. Each day comes with fear, the unknown and sometimes relief. Any kind of cancer can be unrelenting and we question why one person gets it and the person next to them does not. That big question of “Why?” is unanswerable. The best we can do is pray mightily for healing and be present with those who have can-cer and their friends and families who support them every day. Your presence and prayers do help. God is present and available every minute of every day. Use God for comfort or, if needed, as a verbal “punching bag”. God hurts just as much as we do and really does understand what we are feeling. Let God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit help carry the burden. Peace, In Christ, Mother Nancy

If you know a family who might benefit, please share this information with Mother Nancy or Amy Whitlow. Beginning November 1, we will accept donations of turkeys and turkey breasts, hams and also non-perishables in order to assemble boxes for 6 to 12 families at Thanksgiving. Non-perishable items may be placed in boxes in the conference room. Food Pantry Your donations to the St. Mark’s Food Pantry are always used and appreciated. Personal care items and food stuffs may be placed on the food pantry shelves at any time. Blanket Collection If you have gently used blankets you would like to find a home for, we will share them with someone in Johnstown who needs a warm blanket. There will be a collection box in the Parish Hall beginning October 1. Thank you for helping to keep someone warm this winter. With a grateful heart, Amy
