Many people ask, what happened during the last week of Jesus’ life. Here is what we know:

On Monday Jesus Cleansed the Temple. Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all

who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the

benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a

house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’”

Tuesday He cursed a fig tree. Jesus was hungry and seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up

to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit

again!” Immediately the tree withered. He also debated with the priests and elders of the

Sanhedrin. Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and

the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they

asked. “And who gave you this authority?” Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If

you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. John’s baptism—

where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among

themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe

him?’ But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that

John was a prophet.” So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Then he said, “Neither will I

tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

Wednesday Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus: One of the twelve disciples—the one named Judas

Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What will you give me if I betray Jesus to

you?” They counted out thirty silver coins and gave them to him. From then on Judas was

looking for a good chance to hand Jesus over to them.

Thursday the Disciples prepare the Upper Room. The disciples came to Jesus and asked,

“Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” He replied, “Go

into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am

going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’” So the disciples did as

Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

They shared The Last Supper and while they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Pastor’s Paragraphs – Continued

Jesus Prays in the garden. Jesus went with the disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he

said to his them, “Sit here, while I go and pray.” And taking with him Peter and the two sons of

Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed

with sorrow, even to death; remain here, and keep watch.” And going a little farther he fell on

his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless,

not as I will, but as you will.” And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he

said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not

enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, for the second

time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be

done.” And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. So, leaving them

again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again. Then he came

to the disciples and said to them, “the hour is at hand, the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands

of sinners.”

Friday Shortly after midnight Jesus was arrested. There was a trial before the Jewish leaders, and

teachers of the law at the High Priest’s residence. The disciples flee, Judas commits suicide, the

rooster crows. The Jewish leaders took Jesus before Pilate at his headquarters asking that Jesus

be put to death. Pilate sends Jesus to Herod, Herod sends Jesus back to Pilate where he was

beaten and sentenced to be crucified. Jesus was buried just before sundown.

Saturday The Roman guards kept watch at the tomb where Jesus was laid.

Sunday God raised Jesus from the dead, HALLELUJAH!!!!

WE NEED YOUR HELP!! If you enjoy a cup of coffee and a treat during Fellowship Hour, we need your help. I try to schedule 3 people per Sunday not more than twice a year. If we had enough volunteers so that each volunteer worked only two Sundays during the 52 Sundays of the year, we would need 78 volunteers. My current volunteer list is 50, which means everyone could get scheduled up to 3 times during the year (or some Sundays there would be no Fellowship). Please consider volunteering to help. All it takes is getting to church a little early to prepare coffee and set up. Treats and punch supplies are provided, or you can bring you own. If you would like to help with this wonderful ministry please contact the church office or Becky at 586-337-1361.

Devotion from the Upper Room on February 10, 2017 – Submitted by Nancy Harrar

Read Hebrews 10:19-25

I was responsible for maintaining a large aquarium at our church. Recently, because of a

busy schedule, I became negligent in the regular care of the fish. Many of them had

sickened and died, and a few remaining were less active and alert. Immediately I

scooped them up, put them in a bucket of clean water, and began the process of

cleaning the tank and the filter mechanism. Finally I began refilling and restocking the

tank.

While tending to this work, I turned to God. “I’m sorry, Lord,” I prayed. “I’ve neglected

this tank, and the fish have paid the price.” I realized then how important it is to pray

and read the Bible daily so that we do not lose contact with God. Failing to join in

weekly worship and fellowship isolates us from our family of faith. To be faithful

disciples of Christ requires constant care and attention to our connection to God and to

our family of faith. Without these connections, we are in danger of dying spiritually and

missing out of all that God has in store for us.

Floyd Twilley - Maryland

Prayer: Thank you, dear Lord, for your abundant care and love. Help us to remain true

and faithful, always ready to serve you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Don’t stop meeting together with other believers,

which some people have gotten into the habit of

doing. Instead, encourage each other, especially

as you see the day drawing near.

Notice Concerning Kroger Community Rewards Program

As of 3/22/2016, Kroger will be suspending the re-enrollment process from the program for this year. This means members will NOT

need to re-enroll their Kroger Plus card to continue to earn for the charity they have chosen. We do know that communication has been going out about the re-enrollment and we apologize for any confusion. The reason for the change is that The Kroger Co. is working on technology and enhancements that will make the program more user friendly to Valuable Kroger Customers. Two things to note · If for any reason a member does re-enroll they will just continue to earn as they were. · As always new members will be able to join the program at anytime To clarify -- ALL ORGANIZATIONS will not have to have their supporters re-enroll their Kroger Plus Card to continue to earn for the

Kroger Community Rewards Program.
