Lastweek,my friendsendmeaniceWhatsApp’s forwardVideo ( from Goal cast ) , and it was about the famousAmericanpsychologistDr.AbrahamJoshuaTwerskideliveringastrongmessageusingtheLobsterasanexample.Iassumemanyofyouwouldhaveseenthisvideo.Letmehowevertakethelibertytosurmisetheunderlyingmessageagain.The Lobsters is a softMushy animal that lives inside of arigidshell thatdoesnotexpand.Well, thenhowdoesthelobstergrow?Asthelobstergrows,theshellbecomesveryconfining and the lobster feels itself under pressure anduncomfortable. It goesunderaRock formation toprotectitself frompredatoryfish, castsof the shell andproducesa newone.Well eventually even that shell becomes veryuncomfortableas itgrows,thereagain itgoesbackundertherocks.Andthe lobster repeats thisexercisenumeroustimes.Thestimulusforthelobstertobeabletogrowisthatit feels“uncomfortable”.Nowif lobstershadDoctorstheywouldnevergrow,becauseassoonassoonastheLobsterfeelsuncomfortablehegoestothedoctorgetsaValiumorgets a Percocet ( these aremedicines) and feels fine andwouldnevercastsoffhisshell.Soaccording toDr.Twerski,wemust realize thattimesofstressarealsotimesthatareSignalsforGrowth.Andifweuseadversityproperly,wecangrowthroughadversity.Business wise, month of September was indeed verychallenging, should I say “Positively Uncomfortable” likethe lobster and it gives us a message that we use thesechallenging times, to bring the best of us and use theseadversetimestogrow.If Ihavetodrawparallel fromtheabovestory,castingoffshells would mean that our Outdoor Commercial TeamcastsoffexistingcustomerbaseandhandsoverthemtoourInside sales teamand recreatesnewshells (newclients) ,pleasespareathoughtonthis.

Global container port throughput growth slows

Globalcontainervolumesgrewby4.7%inthesecondquarterof 2018, basedonAlphaliner’s global portsurvey of over 200 main ports. Although volumegrowth remain positive, the pace of growth hasslowedtothelowestquarterlylevelsince2016.

Growth remains positive across all main regionssurveyed,exceptfortheMiddleEastwhichregistereda -1.4%declineduringthesecondquarter.Thefallwas duemainly the dramatic drop in Iranian portvolumes that recorded a decline of -18.0%due tothe re-impositionof sanctionsby theUS.VolumesatDubai, the largestport in theMiddleEast,werealsoaffectedasitreportedadeclineof-2.3%duringthequarter.OthernotablelosersintheMiddleEastinclude Salalah (-17.0%), Dammam (-13.3%) andJeddah(-1.3%).

ContainervolumesinChinaandHongKonggrewattheirslowestpacesince2016,registeringagrowthrateof4.3%during the secondquarter, comparedto the 6.7% growth in the first quarter and 9.4%growthin2017.GrowthwasespeciallyweakinSouthChina, with Hong Kong recording a -7.5% decline,while Shenzhen declined by -2.1%. In contrast,Guangzhou’sportsrecordeda7.2%increaseduringthequarter.

The full yearcontainervolumegrowth is currentlyestimated to reach 4.6%, declining from the 5.6%growthrateregisteredinthefirstsixmonthsofthisyear.Theoutlookremainsuncertain,withtheimpactoftheSino-UStradetensionslikelytofurtherpushdowncontainergrowthratesatChineseportsinthesecondhalfofthisyear.

Amongst the Top 30 ports in the world, secondquarter performancewasmixed,with seven portsrecordingvolumedeclines,ledbyHongKong’s7.5%drop.

Amongst the gainers, Colombo registered thestrongestgrowthof15.0%duringthequarterleadingthestrongshowingbyportsintheIndian sub-continent where the sample of portssurveyedgrewby10.2%overall.TheIndonesianportofJakartaalsoreporteda14.8%gain to lead the growth in Southeast Asian ports.However,growthinSoutheastAsiawasmixed,withPortKelangpostinganothernegativequarter due to shifts in transshipment cargo toregional rivals at Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas,whilegrowthinHoChiMinhCityinVietnamslowedto6.7%withsignificantcongestionreportedatthemainterminalatCatLai.

Weak Far East - Middle East market forces fivecarrierstowithdrawajointserviceTheFarEast-MiddleEastservicejointlyoperatedbyGoldStarLine(GSL),KMTC,RCL,SMLine,TSLineshasbeensuspendedafterjustten months in operation. Launched in November2017, the servicewas branded respectively as the‘ChinaGulfExpress’(GCX)byGSL,‘RPM’byRCL,‘AsiaPakistanMiddleEast’(APM)byKMTC, ‘China-Middle East Express’ (CMX) by SMLandTSL.

The last of six ships that were deployed on the

service,the4,957teuWIKING(operatedbyKMTC),isbeingphasedoutandwillendherrotationatXingangon25September.

Theservicewasoperatedwithsixshipsof4,900-7,200teu,withonesailingskippedoneachseven-weekcycle.ItcalledatXingang,Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Dachan Bay,PortKelang,Colombo,Karachi,JebelAli,Colombo,PortKelang,Singapore,Xingang.GSLprovidedtwoships,whiletheotherfourpartnersprovidedoneshipeach.Hapag-Lloydalsotookslotsonthisservice,brandingitas‘AsiaPakistanExpress’(APX)whileX-PressFeederstook slots on the Colombo, Karachi, Jebel Ali,Colomboleg.

The participants offer alternatives to cover inparticular the China- Pakistan trade, with theexceptionofSMLine,eitherthroughslotsonother services connecting directly China withKarachi (GSLandTSL)orbytransshipment (KMTC,RCL,Hapag-Lloyd).SMLcurrentlynolongeradvertises any connections to the Middle Eastregion.

GSLtakesFE-MEslotsafterclosureofGCXserviceGoldStarLine(GSL)willintroduceinmid-SeptemberadirectFarEast-MiddleEastlink,ensuredthroughslotsonHMM’s‘Korea-China-Middle East’ (KME) service. This offer will allowGSLtocontinueitsdirectcoverageoftheFarEast-MiddleEasttrade,followingtheclosure

inAugustofitssoleFarEast-MiddleEastservice,the‘GCX’thatwasoperatedjointlywithRCL,KMTC,TSLandSML.

ForHMM,thenewGSLslotsonthe’KME’willreplacethespacefreedupbyYangMing,whichceasestotakeslotsinAugust.Atthesametime,HMMhasalsoputastoptoitsslotsparticipationontheYangMingowned‘ChinaGulfExpress’(GCX)servicethatispartofTHEAlliancenetwork.

The ’KME’ will enhance GSL coverage in theMiddle East region byintroducingdirectcallsatDammamandDoha(Hamad).ItwillalsoallowGSLtoofferdirectconnectionsbetweenSouthKoreaandTaiwanwiththeMiddleEastports.

The ‘KME’ service covers Kwangyang, Busan, Ningbo, Kaohsiung,Yantian,Shekou,Singapore,PortKelang,JebelAli,Dammam,Doha(Hamad),Singapore,HongKong,Kwangyang.

Of note, Bandar Abbas call was recently removed from the servicerotationinAugustfollowingUSdecisiontowithdrawfromtheJCPOAandre-imposedIraneconomicsanctions.

Theserviceturns insevenweeksusingsevenHMM’sshipsof13,000teu.GSLfirsteffectivesailingisscheduledon13SeptemberfromKwangyangonthe13,154teuHYUNDAIPRIDE.

A team from GLWS comprising, Sumesh, Sreeku-mar,AldrinandShajihadvisitedNewDelhion24thSeptember2018toparticipateintheFIATAWORLDCONGRESS2018.TheeventwasorganizedbyFed-eration of Freight Forwarders Association of India(FFFAI)anditwasindeedastupendoussuccess.

On25thSeptember2018,therewasaneventshow-casing International North–South Transport Corri-dor.TherewereeminentdignitariesfromIndiaandvariousothercountries,whospokeaboutitsgamechangingproposition.

The International North–South Transport Corridorisa7,200-km-longmulti-modenetworkofship,rail,

and road route formoving freight between India,Iran,Afghanistan,Armenia,Azerbaijan,Russia,Cen-tralAsiaandEurope.Thisfreightcorridors,onceitisfullyrealized,itshallaidverypositivelytotheover-all growthof our industry leading to considerablereduction in transittimeandcostof freight trans-portation.

Key requirements of a tax credit note

GOALSA goal is some desired result that an individual or a group or an organization pictures or thinks of, plans towards, and commits itself to achieve it.

Goals can be of two types:

Shorttermgoals:Thosegoalswhicharetobeachieved,inashorterperiodoftime,withinoneyear,isknownasashort-termgoal.Itcanbeachievedwithinhours,days,weeksormonths.Gettingagoodjobinareputedorganizationisanexampleofashort-termgoal.

Long term goals: Those goals, which are to beaccomplished in the future,areknownas long termgoals.Theyrequiremoretimeanda lotofplanning.Reaching a higher position in an organization, forexample a manager or an assistant manager, is anexampleofalong-termgoal.

Toachieveanygoal,wefirstneedtoset it.Settingagoalhelpsus tounderstandvariousaspects likeourcapabilitytoachievegoals,ourfinancialfeasibilitytoachieveagoal,thetimewetaketoachievesmallpartsofthebiggoal(smallgoalsthatmakeupthebiggoal),ourwayofhandlingobstaclesaswellasourdecisionsindilemma(whetherplanAworksoutbetterorplanB).

ATTAINABLE:

Once we realize the importance of our goals, wewouldtakeallmeasurestoachieveit.Thiswillinvolvedevelopingthenecessaryskills,attitudesandabilitiesto achieve them. Only those goals within the reachof our hands should be set as goals. Creating animaginative goalwill lead to nowhere, but only lossof effortswe had put in to achieve them. Here, welook upon the opportunities thatwe had previouslyoverlooked.Goalscanbeachievedbyplanningwiselyaswellasestablishingadeadlineforachievingthem.Asweexecuteourplans,wetendtogotoourgoalsandwhatseemeddifficulttoachievebefore,willnowbe easily achieved.Working towards such goals willeventuallybuildourselfimage.

REALISTIC:

Realisticgoalsarethosewhichexhibitourabilityandwillingnesstowork.Agoalcanberealisticandhigh.Butitentirelydependsonourcapabilitytoworkandtheresourcesavailable.Thehigherthegoalsare,themoremotivationitoffersus.Itmakesusfeelmoreself–worthyandincreasesourself–esteem.

TIME BOUND:

Animportantaspectofsettingagoalisthatitshouldbe timely. Onemust understand the importance oftime and achieving a certain goal within a certainperiod. For example, “it will be done in some day”won’tbeapositiveresponsetoagoalasitdoesnotcreateanyurgeinapersoninachievingit.So,agoal,inanutshellshouldbetimebound.

Fatigue and Work

Exercise: Stretch your hands / Short walks to restore yourenergy.

Fresh Air: Open the windows of your vehicle for let in somefresh Air.

Do the talking: If you have a colleague by your side, start aninteresting conversation.

Caffeine: Drink a cup of caffeinated drink (short termeffect).

Take a break: Inform your immediate supervisor if you feelyou cannot continue in the fatigued stage.
