3rd Edition, 2017

“Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith”

1 Timothy 6:11b-12

Dear Friend of Chaplain Ministries,

I am honored and humbled to begin serving the PRCC Family as the new Executive Director. It is a

privilege to serve and to seek to bring honor and glory to our gracious Lord through this ministry. The

PRCC has a long standing heritage of strong leadership and professional excellence. It is my prayer to

build on the solid foundation laid by Bill Leonard, Dave Peterson and Doug Lee. These men have

labored tirelessly and each one expanded the reach and ministry of the PRCC. What a legacy and

reputation these men have left. It has been a joy over my 30 years in the PRCC to see the growth and

development since my initial endorsement by Bill Leonard. It is my prayer to work faithfully to

continue to build on this legacy.

Terri and I are excited about the future of the PRCC. These are encouraging and challenging times

for our Chaplaincy. Our military and civilian Chaplaincy continues to expand, and we are blessed with

godly Chaplains who are dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Christ. There is still a significant amount

of work to do as I raise resources, educate presbyteries about the nature of the Chaplain ministry,

partner with seminaries for the preparation and continuing education of Chaplains, screen applicants

for endorsement, and minister to Chaplains, military personnel, and family members who have endured

over fifteen years of war. These are unprecedented times in our nation’s history and it is also a time

when we have a great opportunity to share the love of Christ. I remember my last deployment of over

fifteen months to Baghdad and how challenging those times were, but I also remember what an

opportunity it was to see the mighty hand of God at work.

Terri and I seek your prayers as I strive to navigate these waters to minister and represent Chaplains

as we seek to build the Kingdom of God. I want to thank you for faithfully praying for our Chaplains,

their families, their ministries and those they serve. I look forward to participating in “the good fight”

with you through our Chaplains.

Yours in Christ,

Jim

Dr. James R. Carter

PRCC Executive Director & Endorser

Chaplain Ministries Coordinator – Mission to North America

Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel) USA (Retired)

2

New PRCC Executive Director and Endorser James R. (Jim) Carter

Dr. Jim Carter accepted the call to serve as the next PRCC Executive Director

and began his ministry on September 1st, 2017. Dr. Carter returned to the

PRCC Commission after serving in a local pastorate for the past six years. He

served as the Founding and Senior Pastor of the New Presbyterian Church

(NPC) in South Florida. In addition to regular pastoral duties, Dr. Carter led

the church through relocation, a capital campaign and a debt free renovation.

Jim retired from a very successful military ministry career in the Army

Chaplaincy after reaching the rank of Colonel and serving in that rank for

sixteen months. Yielding to God’s call Jim retired from active duty to plant

NPC. It is encouraging to have a gifted Chaplain and spiritual leader of Jim's

unique background following our previous godly Executive Directors. Dr.

Carter understands both the rigors and challenges of military ministry life as

well as the civilian ministry and brings a Shepherd’s heart to the daily ministry of the PRCC. He is passionate to

serve the military and civilian Chaplains and military personnel as well as their family members.

Chaplain James R. “Jim” Carter was born October 30, 1960 and is a native of Monroeville, Alabama. After

attending Belhaven College and Reformed Theological Seminary and receiving his ordination as a Presbyterian

Minister (PCA), Jim entered the Army Chaplain Corps in 1988. He previously served in the Army Reserves as a

Second Lieutenant Chaplain Candidate from 1986-1988.

Chaplain Carter degrees include a Bachelors of Art from Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi; a Master

of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary,

Chaplain Carter’s military education includes the U.S. Army Chaplain Basic Course and Advanced Courses,

Combined Arms Service Staff School (CAS3), the Command and General Staff College, and the Chaplain

Lieutenant Colonel Course.

Chaplain Carter served over 23 years within the Army Chaplaincy. He held numerous military ministry

leadership positions and has served in two combat tours. His assignments include: 24th Infantry Division, 3

HAS YOUR CHURCH ADOPTED A SPECIFIC CHAPLAIN WITH PRAYER SUPPORT?

Thank you, Guardian Prayer Warrior, for faithfully lifting up our Chaplains, their families, their ministries,

and those they serve with prayer.

We desire to have at least one specific church praying for each of our full-time military and civilian

chaplains. We have some full-time Chaplains that have NO church assigned to pray for them. If your

church is currently not assigned as a “Chaplain-Adopting Church” for at least one PRCC Chaplain, please

discuss this with your Church’s Leadership and suggest they consider doing so this fall, as they plan their

budgets for 2018. Supporting PRCC/MNA Chaplain ministries financially is not a requirement to

Sponsor/Adopt a Chaplain with prayer support, but it is the main source of funding for our work to recruit,

credential, care for and cover the backs of our Chaplains.

You may find the list of churches that have Adopted a Chaplain on our website (WWW.PRCC.CO) then

look under the tabs on the right for HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?, then select SPONSOR A

CHAPLAIN.

Thank you VERY much,

The PRCC Staff

______________________________________________________________________

How can you support our Chaplains financially without costing you or your church a penny?

PLEASE HELP US GET THE WORD OUT To all Military Personnel and other Federal Employees

As you know, the PRCC must raise the financial support necessary to continue to recruit, endorse, and

care for our PRCC Chaplains in the field. There is one source of revenue that is available to us by way of

the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) that does not cost your church anything. But it does require our

churches to help us get the word out to folks who probably want to know about this opportunity.

The CFC is the “United Way” for Federal Employees (Military Personnel, Federal Courts, Federal

Civilian and Post Office Employees). When these folks are encouraged by their Federal Employer for

100% participation, they can now choose to direct their CFC gifts to support our Chaplains through the

PRCC! All they have to know to direct their payroll deduction gift to us is our

MNA/PRCC CFC #38370

Please communicate this good word to all of the Federal Employees in your sphere of influence.

The Campaign takes place in October and November, so please include this information in your church

and presbytery bulletins and newsletters during that timeframe.

Email us for more information & a sample bulletin insert: [email protected] or you can

find bulletin insert samples on our website at: www.PRCC.co,

GLOSSARY

The military has its own language, and to make it even more challenging, each of the branches of

service has its own language, particularly when it comes to their acronyms. If you come across an

acronym in a chaplain report, you might want to check this Glossary to see if it is translated here. If

you don’t find it here, and want to know what the acronym means, send an email to the Chaplain!

If there is one that you think we need to add to this Glossary, let us know:

September 2017

1 Friday This is Transition Day. CH (BG) Doug

Lee, USA, RET retired yesterday as the MNA

Chaplain Ministries Coordinator and as the PRCC

Executive Director and Endorser. Doug has served

our Churches and our Chaplains in this role for the

past nine years. We thank the Lord for Doug and all

he has done for Christ’s Church through Chaplains.

We are pleased to announce that CH (LTC) Jim

Carter, USA, RET starts today in these same roles.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Thank the Lord with us

for Doug Lee, and pray for him as he embarks on

“another retirement”. Doug has many plans for his

“third half”. Please pray for his continued health

and service to Christ. Also please pray for Jim

Carter, as he begins his new calling. Pray for the

Lord to give Jim His wisdom, and grant him health

and energy as he takes the “baton” from Doug

today and “presses on!”

2 Saturday CH Bee Kirk, St. Joseph's Hospital,

Tampa, FL (PCA - Southwest Florida) I remain

working mostly cardiology and the medical/surgical

department at St. Joseph's Hospital. Longer term, it

is possible I could move onto a new team focusing

on patients who would receive a new technology

heart pump. Outside of work, I have decided to

begin work on my Doctor of Ministry degree. It will

likely take three years. My first class occurred the

last week in July. PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for

my wife’s minimally invasive surgery to repair a

degenerative disc. Please pray the surgery is

successful in relieving her back and leg pain,

thereby restoring her ability to exercise regularly.

Pray also for my eldest son's wife who is pregnant

with what we pray will be my second grandchild.

Please pray for the health of my daughter-in-law,

Audrey, as well as for full-term pregnancy, and the

birth of this child.

3 Sunday CH Mike Horne, SC State Guard,

Greenwood, SC (ARPC - Second Presbytery) I

will continue to serve the SC State Guard in the

future. I am currently a Captain and hope to be

promoted to Major in 1 1/2 years. As Chaplain I

attend to the needs of the members of the State

Guard and also to any veteran who is hospitalized

or in need of a Chaplain. (Branch of service does

not matter.) PRAYER REQUESTS: As I had both

knees replaced in August I would request prayers

for a quick and successful recovery.

4 Monday CH Eric Dye, Erie VAMC Chaplain,

Erie, PA (PCA - Palmetto) I am now serving as a

Staff Chaplain at Erie, PA VAMC. We are

preparing to attend Staff Chaplain training at the

VA National Chaplain Center in Hampton Roads,

VA. and continuing to provide ministry to Long

Term, Palliative Care and Hospice veterans and

their families. We are attending Faith Reformed,

PCA in Erie, PA. when not on duty for the Chapel

Service. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for

our son Peter's status for the AF promotion board to

be released sometime in August, and for daughter

Ruth's commissioning into the Washington State

National Guard later this year. Pray also for the new

Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Dr. Shulkin, as he

works to reform the VA culture. Nothing specific in

the way of things; but prayer and encouragement in

the work of the Lord in the VA system which

continues to be a source for certain negative

publicity hounds.

5 Tuesday CH (2Lt) Thad Davis, 145 Wing,

ANG, Charlotte, NC (PCA - Central Carolina) I

am awaiting appointment to the Air National Guard.

I hope to soon be appointed to the 145th Wing in

Charlotte, NC most likely as the operations group

Chaplain. I hope that I can minister effectively

during a large base-wide transition. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Pray for contentment in this time of

waiting, that God would lead as we seek ministry

opportunities and pray for our family as we adjust

to a change in ministry roles.

119th FAR, MI National Guard, Wyoming, MI

(OPC - Presbytery of Michigan and Ontario) Thank you so much for your prayers and support

for my application to serve as a Chaplain in the

Michigan National Guard. I’m glad to report that I

had my final interview this morning and was

approved to serve. So, officially, “I’m in the Army

now!” I’ll have my first weekend drill starting in

7

September. PRAYER REQUESTS: Thank you so

much for your support, and will you continue to

pray with me that the Lord might use this

opportunity to advance the cause of Christ in the

world. God be with you.

7 Thursday LT Joe Gilliam, CHC, USN, Naval

Air Station Oceana/Dam Neck Annex, Virginia

Beach, VA (PCA - Potomac) I am currently

serving at a chapel on Dam Neck Annex. The base

is primary made up of students that are working in

intelligence. I have a service that I lead on Sunday

night and I also counsel regularly through the week.

Our service will have anywhere from 12-25 in

attendance on Sunday. However, the students are

only here for about 3 months and then they rotate to

their permanent duty station. I am also doing

marriage counseling for several couples on base.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray that the Holy

Spirit would give me the ability to speak the Gospel

clearly and boldly in each counseling session that

God gives me. My family is up for orders next

month, so please pray that God would prepare our

family for where God sends us next. Please pray for

the marriage counseling, that God would restore

these relationships.

8 Friday CH (CPT) Mike Myers, GA Army

National Guard, Elberton, GA (OPC -

Presbytery of the Southeast) I have officially

transferred into 1st Battalion, 121 Infantry of the

48th IBCT in the Georgia Army National Guard.

Soldiers in the state affectionately refer to this

storied organization as The Brigade. It is an honor

to be involved with the courageous Soldiers that

make up its ranks and to add my small part to its

history. May the Lord bless the work here! Civilian

side ministry continues to progress, and we hope to

organize out of church plant status into a local

church with our own leadership soon. My amazing

wife Katy and I continue eagerly to await baby

number five due in September. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray that the Lord will bless

the organization process for Heritage. Please also

continue to pray for my ministry to my many

Soldiers in 1-121, especially that the Word of the

Lord would speed ahead and be honored. Thank

you all for your faithful support.

9 Saturday CHC (2LT) Jason Oh, Covenant

Seminary, St Louis, MO (KAPC-Midwest

Presbytery) I’ve completed CPE (Clinical Pastoral

Education) at Christian Hospital, Saint Louis,

Missouri. By God’s grace, I have had the

tremendous privilege of serving the drug addicted

patients as a clinical Chaplain. Through visiting

those patients, I’ve learned the opioid epidemic

crisis in the United States as well as in the St. Louis

local area. My intensive pastoral care involves

building relationships with these patients, and then

helping them find out where they are and who they

are and guide them as to how to get out of their

deep dark hole. I am also able to provide them the

Word of God because they need the good

companion who can be always with them and

deliver them from drug addictions. All these

experiences help me to improve my pastoral care

and counseling others. Praise the LORD! PRAYER

REQUESTS: My family and I ask God to fill us

with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual

wisdom and understanding so that we may live

godly lives and may please Him in every way. We

ask God to help us bear good fruit in every good

work, and grow in the knowledge of God, and be

strengthened with all power according to His

glorious might, and increase our endurance and

patience with joy, and give thanks to God in

everything.

Research, Development, & Engineering

Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD

(PCA - Chesapeake) For my headquarters I'm

currently leading a weekly Bible study and prayer

group through John 13-17. We're taking it very

slowly focusing on how Jesus describes love among

the Persons of the Trinity and, therefore, what it

means for us to love and be loved. I also created

two hands-on practical exercises for Moral

Leadership Training. You can see the introduction

to one of them on YouTube at https://youtu.be/C1--

devotionals on leadership by voluntary attendance.

11 Monday CH (CPT) Steve Goddard, 2nd

Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, McGuire

AFB, NJ (PCA - Philadelphia) Praise God for His

faithfulness during my job transition here at Ft.

Bragg. I am now officially the Chief of Pastoral

Care at Womack Army Medical Center, Ft. Bragg,

NC. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for me as

I learn the new job and strive for excellence in

providing religious support to the hundreds of staff

and patients in our hospital and clinics. We have a

great team here. Please pray that we will gel as a

team and that I will provide godly, focused

leadership. Most importantly please pray for

opportunities to bring the gospel of God's grace in

Christ to every situation in which God places me

here. Sarah and the children are doing well. Please

pray for her as she prepares for the beginning of the

new homeschool year. We have a great homeschool

community and Sarah contributes in amazing ways,

but she needs renewed energy and focus. It is

physically and emotionally taxing to keep up with a

baby and four other school-age children.

12 Tuesday CH (CPT) Bill Lamkin, 231st

Military Police & Civilian Hospital,

Montgomery, AL (PCA - Southeast Alabama) I

have begun a new position with Baptist Health in

Montgomery, AL where I am one of several

Clinical Chaplains in the system. My primary

location is at the Montgomery Cancer Center. I also

fill in as needed with Baptist Hospice and rotate the

on-call schedule at the 3 hospitals in our system. In

February, I was honored to be selected for Board

Certification with the Association of Certified

Christian Chaplains (ACCC) and plan to attend the

national convention in November (’17). This spring

my wife’s dad passed away. This coincided with the

end of her residency in Family Medicine. She will

begin her new medical practice in Montgomery, AL

very soon. In addition to my civilian ministry

opportunities, I continue as Battalion Chaplain with

the 231st Military Police (ALARNG) in Prattville,

AL. I am very thankful to be in such a great unit.

We have outstanding leadership and they are very

supportive of the Unit Ministry Team. Over the

course of the past year I led several classes for

Soldiers, participated in a staff hurricane exercise,

and conducted an Officer Professional

Development seminar for the Staff as I continued to

provide pastoral care to the Soldiers and families. In

August, the Chaplains of ALARNG participated in

marriage/family counseling training led by Dr. John

Van Epp. We also had the privilege of meeting our

new state commander MG Sheryl Gordon (the first

female commander in AL history). I am currently

enrolled in the Chaplains Captains Career Course

(C4) and expect to finish by December. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray for this year of transition

in our home and hearts, open doors for ministry

opportunities with the 231st and efficient time

management as I complete C4.

13 Wednesday CDR Robert Burns Jr., CHC,

USN, USNA Annapolis, Annapolis, MD (PCA -

Central Florida) Ministry at the Naval Academy is

going wonderfully! It is an honor and a privilege to

serve at this fine institution. We have been working

closely to build cooperation among the various on-

campus ministries and this past month the leaders of

each of the seven protestant campus ministries met

together for prayer and fellowship all on their own

volition! We have planned combined worship

opportunities and have built numerous avenues for

cooperation that have benefited midshipmen and the

ministries alike. The protestant chapel is in a state

of flux. It has been the same for the past six decades

at least. Please pray that we can create a new

worship style that is Christ Centered and yet

relevant to today's audience. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray that community revival

occurs within the Protestant chapel as attendance

numbers have diminished over the years.

14 Thursday CH (LTC) Douglas Hoover, USA,

Watters Family Life Chaplain Training Center,

Fort Bragg, NC (PCA - Ohio Valley) This

summer I became the director of the Ft. Bragg

Family Life Chaplain Training Center. Every year 6

to 8 Chaplain Majors come here and begin a 17

month master's program in marriage and family

counseling from a local university. At the Center

we help the Chaplains integrate theology, helping

produce truly pastoral counselors. As their

internship site, they have plenty of opportunity to

develop their new ministry. Each year we conduct

approximately 5,000 hours of counseling for

Soldiers and families at Ft. Bragg. It is a blessing to

9

see lives and marriages transformed as individuals

and couples come, sit with our Chaplains for a

while, get unstuck from current challenges and

leave with new hope in life and relationships!

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for wisdom

for these Chaplains, healing for relationships - with

God and spouse, and for God's glory as lives are

changed.

support and encouraging words during my waiting

time for results of the March 2017 Chaplain Major

Promotion Board. My Battalion commander called

me to his room the day before the official result

came out and congratulated me for being selected to

be Chaplain (Major) Kim. It was great news to me

and my family and Doug Lee also emailed me his

congratulations. Thank you again for all who

prayed for me and my family. So, what's next for

us? I don't know and yet I am very excited to

experience what God already has prepared for me

and my family for our next assignment. Meanwhile,

I will continue serving the Military Intelligence

Battalion and Brigade until summer of 2018 so that

my elder son can graduate high school by that time

and go to college. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please

pray for my ministry here with my current unit until

next summer and pray for my son who will be

leaving home for college. Lastly, please pray for my

next assignment as Chaplain (MAJ) Kim (Most

likely a Brigade Chaplain or Hospital Chaplain)

SOW, Hurlburt Field, FL (ARPC - Second

Presbytery) Greetings to the PRCC Family! We so

appreciate all the prayers, emails, and support! It

was great seeing Doug Lee at the ARPC Synod and

breaking bread with him and the other ARPC

Chaplains. As of August 2017, I've just finished my

first year serving as Wing Chaplain for the 24th

Special Operations Wing (SOW) at Hurlburt Field.

As the singular Chaplain serving six geographically

separated Chaplains/units (GSUs) the LORD has

reminded fresh and anew how tangibly-faithful HE

is in provision. On August 9th, the 24 SOW

received its first E-7 Chaplain assistant to assist in

providing care for the four Hurlburt Field assigned

units and GSUs. This Chaplain assistant comes with

a breadth of experience and a Master of Divinity

17 Sunday CH (LT) Matt Schilling, 2nd Marine

Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, NC (PCA -

Grace) I will become an active duty Navy (at ODS)

beginning Sept 17, 2017. I have transitioned from

the Navy Reserves to Active Duty status. In mid-

September I will go to Officer Development School

for 5 weeks followed by 9 weeks of Chaplain

training. Then, in mid-December I will report to

Camp Lejeune in North Carolina where I will be

serving with the 2nd Marine Logistics Group,

Combat Logistics Battalion 8. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Pray that faith, hope, and love would

prevail in our family as we are separated during my

3 months of training and as we move to North

Carolina to begin a new adventure together in the

Navy. Pray that God would graciously use the

training I receive at ODS and Chaplain School to

prepare and equip me for the work to which God

has now called me.

18 Monday CH (MAJ) Chris Bryan, 35th

Engineer Brigade, Missouri National Guard,

Fort Leonard Wood, MO (PCA - Missouri) My

Brigade will mobilize in October 2017. We will

spend two months stateside in training at Ft.

Leonard Wood, MO and Ft. Bliss, TX, and then ten

months deployed at Camp Buehring in Kuwait. Our

mission is the command and control of Army

Engineers throughout the Middle East, so I

anticipate frequent travel to visit Soldiers and

Chaplains in addition to garrison responsibilities in

Kuwait. The time until our departure will be very

full. I will remain at my civilian teaching position

until the end of September to train my long-term

substitute and ensure a smooth transition. I hope to

complete several home improvement projects. Most

of all, I want to spend time with my wife, Cris, and

our family, friends, and neighbors. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray that I would have a

cheerful and willing attitude to serve wherever the

Lord takes me. Pray especially for my wife, Cris,

that God would comfort and sustain her in my

absence. Pray for an open door and boldness to

preach the gospel in word and deed at every

opportunity.

NMCB-4, Port Hueneme, CA (PCA - Tidewater) Our Battalion is within the 90-day window for our

next deployment. We have been busy with a steady

schedule of training and field exercises since we

returned home from our last deployment. The bulk

of the ministry in the Battalion is counseling and

leadership with a regular preaching schedule during

deployment. I will continue in counseling during

our pre-deployment window in addition to

preparing sermons. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please

pray for our preparations in the midst of the

business and for safety for pre-deployment and

throughout. In addition, please pray that the Holy

Spirit moves in the Battalion convicting hearts and

showing the need for our Savior. Please pray for my

endurance for another deployment and 9 more

months at the Battalion. Prayer for strength and

endurance for myself and my family.

20 Wednesday CH Ty Keys, Florida Dept. of

Corrections, Lancaster Unit, Trenton, FL (PCA

- North Florida) Last year Lancaster changed over

from a youthful offender (18 to 24 yrs.) to an adult

camp. These changes have restructured our

approach to Chaplaincy ministry at Lancaster. Our

future focus is to develop a new comprehensive

model to reach these older and more seasoned

inmates with the truths of the gospel. Inmates are

becoming more personally active in all the

programs offered in the Chaplaincy department. I

am seeking to learn more about the many different

religious groups’ spiritual needs to become a better

ministering Chaplain. PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please pray for the transition and training of a new

Chaplain that was recently hired and for more

effective time management for me, as I take a

clinical pastoral education class in the fall.

BN 1st SWTG JFKSWCS, Fort Bragg, NC (PCA

Fort Bragg and my family abundantly the last

several months. I'm thankful to have passed the

Jumpmaster course in May. Thank you for your

prayers. It was very challenging and, honestly

stressful, but God was good and gracious. I'm still

in shock I passed. I have enjoyed pulling

Jumpmaster duties on airborne operations now and

it has given me another way to connect with

Soldiers. I preach once a month and really delight in

bringing home the Word. I recently took some

single Soldiers white water rafting in the mountains

and we had a blast in the cool Nantahala River as

well as talking about some deep spiritual issues.

Nancy is prepping for homeschooling and for

leading a PWOC bible study. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray for me as I have just

gotten a new CDR and XO. They both embrace the

faith, thankfully, and support me. I'd like to be of

support to them and the unit. This is probably my

last year at Bragg before I PCS to the Captain's

22 Friday CH John Cline, SSM Saint Louis

University Hospital, St. Louis, MO (PCA -

resolution from my last report. First I interviewed

on April 7th to be board certified by the Association

of Professional Chaplains and was passed. It was a

growing process for me as I had to represent myself

clearly and speak confidently of the work I do as a

Chaplain. It took a lot of work to prepare and I had

a lot of help from my colleagues but the interview

went really really well. Praise God. Secondly and

more importantly my wife and I were finally able to

adopt a little baby boy! He's now a healthy 4 1/2

month old who loves to laugh and smile and he has

been a delight to mom and dad. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please pray I find godly ways to care

for myself as I continue to find my work quite

draining. Pray also for my wife Stacey and I that we

care well for and thoroughly enjoy our little boy.

Marine Communications Electronics School

Chaplain, Twenty Nine Palms, CA (OPC -

new Chaplain has finally arrived. Since February I

have been taking care of 4000 student Marines and

permanent staff as well. The commandant of the

Marine Corps has emphasized the importance of

spiritual fitness. We have already set up regular

classes for Marines talking freely about faith,

values, etc. Also, I have been mentoring several

young Marines who come from troubled

backgrounds. Many of these kids did not have

parental guidance and discipline growing up.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for new PRCC

God's blessings would be on them. Also please keep

my family and me in your prayers as we serve here

deployed overseas, or out-of-state on extended field

operations. Those who remain are busy with field

training and their own preparations for deployment

later this year and early next. With the summer

came the usual turnover in personnel. Many new

Marines and families have joined the unit. My own

time here is coming to a close in the near future,

which has proven to be a bittersweet anticipation

for both myself and Jiyoung. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please continue to pray for my

Marines and Sailors. Recent unfortunate events in

our military have demonstrated the dangers that

exist, even in training environments. Please pray for

their safety and well-being. Please pray for ministry

to these Marines and Sailors. Pray that those of faith

would have their faith strengthened, and those who

do not yet know Christ, that opportunities would be

pray for Jiyoung and me as we faithfully and

prayerfully continue to try to start a family.

grateful to report that I successfully completed the

milestone is now behind me. In the fall, I intend to

start a lunchtime Bible study at my unit, and my

commander has encouraged this. I am also planning

a day trip for members of my unit, touring some

significant Luther & Reformation sites in our area.

It appears I'll continue to lead the EUCOM Bible

Study for the year ahead. There are not many

Chaplains in Stuttgart who are willing to baptize

infants, so some of the local active duty Chaplains

have reached out to me when such ministry needs

arise. Our church here has lost quite a few families

over the past year, but we hope the current PCS

season will bring new people to our ranks. We are

also making plans to reinstate Sunday School in the

fall, and to host a Reformation mini-conference. We

enjoyed having both of our sons home with us this

past summer. PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray that

14

the Lord will bless my service for Him in my

for the continued support and encouragement from

felt loved and encouraged. Susan continues to

slowly heal from some radiation damage to her

esophagus and airway, and while it's discouraging,

by God's grace she has continued to support the

family and chapel ministry in tremendous fashion.

Our Worship service is going well. 1 John is a

blessing to preach through and we are experiencing

slow growth in attendance and volunteering. We

have also started a Sunday Night small group using

William Barcley's "The Secret of Contentment".

We have four couples in our study, and our college

age daughters (Abbey and Laura) are leading a

parallel study for their older children. Susan also

has launched a leadership wives' prayer group and

is expecting about six base leader's wives to attend.

I am grateful to the Lord for His sustaining grace,

and for increasing our love for Him. Recently one

of our Chaplain assistants stopped by our house the

night before she flew to Korea, with tears in her

eyes she thanked Susan and I and remarked "You

have changed my life"... We rejoiced that we had

the opportunity to remind her that God was

changing her life, and He would continue that work

of grace even in Korea. PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please join me in praying for real healing for Susan.

Pray also that her MRI's would show no return of

cancer at this one-year point. Please also join us in

praying through the above mentioned ministry

items. Finally, thanks for your continued prayer for

time in the Chaplaincy and for God to open the

right doors for ministry afterwards. Thanks again

16 Monday CH Al Herrington, Tippah County

Hospital, Ripley, MS &, New Albany, MS (PCA -

Eastern Carolina) Maybe one of the best Chaplain

moments happened when I was on duty this week. I

stopped to go into Walmart. Walking in the door, a

young boy saw my Chaplain cap and uniform and

he asked what a Chaplain does. As I stooped down

16

to talk with him I explained that I was there to help

protect him. His mother and other people gathered

to hear what I had to say. He asked me about my

badge, knife, and gun. I let him blow my whistle. I

told him I help, protect and serve others. I shared

with them that I get to talk to others like him about

Jesus. The doorway was getting crowded by now

and the Walmart greeter was not happy we were

congregated there. He told me to be on my way as

there were busy shoppers coming in. However, the

young boy, his mother and others wanted to hear

more. We moved out of the way of the door and I

continued to share with all of them. As he left he

gave me a big smile. You might think this is a small

incident but in God’s providence it is being ready to

give an answer for the hope we have within us. That

is one of the privileges I have as a PRCC Chaplain.

I go into a lot of difficult situations but talking to a

young boy and others was important for that

moment. PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for strength

And I praise God that "no more on-call shifts" for

weeknights & weekends frees me up to focus on

church-pastoring & revitalization work (including

mercy ministries) here in metro

Wilmington/Wilmington Manor. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Pray that new church officers (elders,

deacons) can be further built up and

elected/installed in 2018 for both my 'parishes': City

Church of Wilmington and the revitalized

Wilmington Manor congregation (which MAY be

re-titled "Church of All Nations"). I've never had a

sabbatical in my 30+ years of ministry, so my wife

Pam & I praise God for our health holding up

(physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally)-

-even with raising 5 kids (2 adopted) and

specializing in cross-cultural ministry in

metropolitan areas. Ask the Lord of the Harvest to

continue to empower us & those we equip. Pray that

Pam would "finish strong" her second & final year

as chair of our presbytery's Women's Ministry

Council. It will culminate in the annual March 2018

gathering which last year (in her first 'presiding')

drew over 200 ladies, with an additional track of

pastor's & Chaplain's wives. Pray that I'd be

applying much of the "by faith" passages from

Hebrews 11 which were memorized during 2016-

17. Ask God that I'd remember to pray similar to

Jehoshaphat: "LORD, I don't know what to do...but

my eyes are upon You!"

19 Thursday CH (LTC) Wylly Collins, Joint

Forces Headquarters, Alabama ARNG,

Montgomery, AL (PCA - Southeast Alabama) We are now in the midst of hurricane season. We

continue to monitor possible storms in the Gulf of

Mexico for any potential hurricanes. We will be

having our annual Religious Support Team Training

with our Chaplains and Chaplain Assistants in the

Alabama Air and Army National Guard. This year

we will be having training on how to conduct

couples counseling. There is a real focus on

resiliency in the military today. We hope that this

additional training will give more tools to our

Chaplains as they minister to Soldiers/Airmen and

their spouses. We will also be hosting a British

Army Reserve Chaplain. We are looking forward to

17

learning from him on how Chaplains minister in the

Army Reserve in the United Kingdom. We are

seeing a number of applicants who are interested in

becoming either Chaplains or Chaplain Candidates.

PRAYER REQUESTS: I praise God for that.

Thank you for your prayers and support!

20 Friday CH (LTC) Mark Levine, USA, U.S.

ARCENT, Shaw AFB, SC (PCA - Missouri) My

wife, Cameron, and I are grateful to be able to

report that I’ve been extended in my assignment as

the ARCENT Deputy Command Chaplain until

next summer! Now, while it is the prerogative of

the Army to change its mind, this is initially great

news for us. We love the area and continue to grow

in grace through involvement in the ministry of

First Pres. in Columbia. I have the privilege of

mentoring several younger men, and am also

involved in a single men’s Bible Study group. Lord

willing, I will be able to finish work on my D.Min.

by next summer, as I’ve just finished up the course

work in May. Work at ARCENT continues apace. I

am continuing my Bible Study in the Sermon on the

Mount, and soon will transition to teach through

Galatians. PRAYER REQUESTS: Once again, I

am humbled and grateful for the prayers of many of

you, several of which have been kind enough to

drop a line of encouragement to me. Please pray

that the Lord would abundantly bless the various

avenues of ministry both Cameron and I are

involved with. Especially pray that we would

experience many open doors for evangelism,

counseling, and transformed lives through the Word

of God here at ARCENT. Also please pray that the

Lord would provide a buyer for the house we are

trying to sell in the Ft. Campbell, KY area.

Continue to pray for my son, David, that he would

come to faith; for my daughter, Luci, for blessing in

her work, contentment, and a godly husband.

Lastly, I would appreciate prayers for wisdom,

discernment, and open doors as to the Lord’s

leading in the last third of our lives.

there, I will serve as the Deputy Wing Chaplain.

My units will be the Expeditionary Medical Group

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for God's

protection of my family while deployed. Also,

please pray that God would open doors of ministry

opportunities to share the Gospel. Thank you for

22 Sunday CH (MAJ) Seth George, USA, 3rd

Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, Fort

Carson, CO (PCA - Rocky Mountain) My unit is

starting to wrap up a 9 month deployment to

Central Europe. I have had the privilege of

supporting battalion Chaplains and Chaplain

Assistants in units deployed to the Baltics, Poland,

Germany, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. We

have been able to interact with Chaplains from most

of these countries. Of particular interest were the

questions from the Latvian Chaplains who live in a

secular society much like ours and asked how we as

U.S. Chaplains maintain relevance in a culture that

appears to value secularism. Our discussion

revolved around the importance of timely ministry

and evangelism at the platoon level and trusting that

God will open doors that we cannot. In my

estimation, that has always been and always will be

the joy and challenges of the Army Chaplaincy.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Including myself, there

are eight Chaplains in our brigade, please pray for

us as we re-deploy and integrate back into our

homes. Also, pray for the Chaplains in these other

countries that they will be effective in their ministry

as well.

MEF, Camp Pendleton, CA (PCA -

central issues: 1) development and care of 60

Religious Teams; and 2) continuous training that

explores God's truth for war and captures it in

philosophical concepts that enable open discussions

for all while inciting inner spiritual awakenings.

With both, I have had great opportunities and it is

exciting to see God work. PRAYER REQUESTS:

As I provide training in many settings, pray that

God uses those opportunities to open conversations

that lead to metamorphosis and metanoia (Rom

24 Tuesday 2LT Ken Kruchkow, Westminster

Theological Seminary, Glenside, PA (OPC -

Presbytery of Michigan and Ontario) We just

finished a three week training and it was

unbelievable! The breadth of ministry experiences

in such a short time was amazing. I had more

gospel conversations, passed out more Bibles and

had more encouraging counseling moments than I

have ever experienced in this short of time

compared to any of the other ministries I've been

part of. I was privileged to get to shadow my

Chaplain during several situations before being sent

on a mission by myself to fill in for a Chaplain.

Much of what I saw shadowing was put into use

when I was on my own. My mission went so well

that I was given an Army Achievement Metal.

Chaplaincy is a great ministry opportunity and I

thank you for your prayers during this time and in

the months to come. PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please pray for endurance for my family and me,

grace with those I interact with, and full healing of

my leg. It is still experiencing setbacks after

progress was made.

one of the biggest issues for the Soldiers. Also, I'm

bringing ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention

multiple layers of first-aid type of resources

available around the Soldiers. Hopefully this will

help with this ongoing issue. PRAYER

REQUESTS: I am heading into the second year of

my Korea tour, and hopefully will be going to C4

26 Thursday LT Stephen Scott, CHC, USN,

Naval Base Point Loma, COMSUBRON 11, San

Diego, CA (PCA - Gulf Coast) I recently had the

privilege of going underway with one of my

subMarines. As we submerged, I observed how

detailed and specific the subMariners were as they

called out various commands to each other. I saw

how they trusted each other from the navigator

giving the proper course, to sonar listening for any

close contacts, to the helmsman who drove the

subMarine strictly by instrumentation. These

subMariners prepare and drill daily in order to

continue defending our country. It reminded me

about how we as believers should mimic this trust

and teamwork in our daily walk with Christ. We too

should be together preparing for the daily spiritual

battles we face and learn to sharpen each other as

we defend against the fiery darts of the evil one.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for the work load of

these subMariners. They have a difficult

deployment schedule and when they are back in

port, they still maintain strenuous schedules. Pray

for the challenges that come with Sailors struggling

to go under water for a length of time. Pray that I

would be able to provide wise counsel to them and

encourage them with comfort and hope that can

only come from Christ.

I am still greatly enjoying the ministry here. The

Lord has blessed our services lately; we've seen

increased attendance as well as a few conversions.

The Contemporary service has really taken off. We

started it last OCT and its now our largest

Protestant service with roughly 120 attending each

week. I continue to lead the Gospel service, which

is a great privilege and joy for me. I marvel that

within God's providence, a white, Reformed

Presbyterian (me) leads a "spirited" (or Spirited!)

worship service of mostly African-Americans and

Japanese locals with Pentecostal leanings. God

moves in mysterious ways! PRAYER

REQUESTS: Please continue to pray for my zeal

and faithfulness to God in the many roles of life:

disciple, husband, father, pastor and garrison

examining two new Elder candidates and one

prevent acts that transgress their own moral and

ethical values. It can accompany PTS (Post

example might be when a person has neglected their

To be honest, I don't know either, except for the

as to ministry and gospel opportunities at my unit

Combat Aviation battalion. We recently received

surprise orders to move to Ft Meade, Maryland. I

will be a Chaplain recruiter; fishing for new

Chaplains in the northeastern US. After admittedly

initial disappointment, we are getting excited about

what God has for us. His ways are above our ways

and He is the one who plans our steps. While I will

miss direct Soldier contact as a traditional Army

the types of Chaplains who come into the Army,

and that God will use me to coach, mentor, and pray

with young seminary students or pastors

considering this calling.

20 Monday CH (MAJ) Shannon Philio, USA,

593rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command,

JBLM, WA (PCA - Grace) I've been living out of

suitcases for the last month and a half. I redeployed

from my 10-month tour in Kuwait on 7 June, signed

out of Fort Bragg on 13 June, and enjoyed post-

deployment leave on the MS Gulf Coast before I

reported to Joint Base Lewis McChord under

Seattle/Tacoma, WA on 1 August. I am the Deputy

Command Chaplain for the 593rd Expeditionary

Sustainment Command, responsible for overseeing

and mentoring seven battalion unit ministry teams. I

will be conducting many Strong Bonds marriage

and single Soldier retreats. I will be preaching

regularly at the Main Post chapel. I am now at 20.5

years of active duty service, by God's grace and

favor. The calling to edify the flock in uniform and

evangelize the lost with the message of God's love

and salvation still burns brightly within me.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for a smooth

transition for me. Please continue to pray for the

Lord's working in and through me to minister to our

military team and families for His honor and glory.

move to Fort Lauderdale to complete the remainder

in the process of finishing CHBOLC and look

forward to using the new knowledge I have

obtained. I have not met the Chaplain I will be

serving under at my new unit. PRAYER

REQUESTS: I would appreciate prayer regarding

finding a job while I finish seminary, ideally

something related to the Chaplaincy. We are also

adding a new member to our family, our first

daughter.

forward to getting to know the prisoners under my

TX (PCA - Korean Central) Greetings from San

Antonio, TX! I praise God for His faithfulness and

goodness. I thank you, our prayer warriors, for your

unceasing prayer support and words of

encouragement. I arrived safely here at San Antonio

(Fort Sam Houston), TX and began the Clinical

Pastoral Education (CPE) Resident Program with

eight other Army Chaplains. I will receive various

trainings (class work, 24 hours on-call-duty and

clinical ministry practicum) for one year in order to

become a hospital Chaplain. May God's blessings

be with you always! PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray

for family: My family will be at Fort Knox, KY

while I am in training. Please pray for their safety

and spiritual wellbeing. May God protect them and

guide their daily lives. Pray also for their health.

For me: Please pray for my training. May God give

me wisdom and understanding so that I can

complete the training successfully. Pray also for the

Chaplains receiving the training with me so that we

can all work together in harmony and unity in Jesus

Christ.

24 Friday LCDR Buster Williams, CHC, USN,

Northwest Georgia) We are in the middle of

transitioning to our new assignment with the

Marine air group in Hawaii! We anticipate lots of

opportunities for Bible studies, counseling young

Marines and their families, service in local

churches, and outreach opportunities with our

Marine families. I may be doing short deployments

or field exercises in the very near future. Hoping

work events don't turn our tour with the Marines

into a combat deployment so pray for our leaders.

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for a smooth

transition to Hawaii- especially quick and excellent

housing, help in finding a local church and support

group, initial positive impressions on my new

command, and for the kids to quickly adjust to a

new environment. Prayers for personal loss -

Christa's mom died in late June and my very close

cousin on the 4th of July leaving behind 4 young

children and his common law wife. Pray for

salvation for Buster's family, and for many to come

ND to serve as the Deputy Wing Chaplain for the

5th Bomb Wing. In my first job as a Deputy Wing

Chaplain, supervising five Chaplains, I'm learning a

great deal about leadership and about how the Lord

has called me and equipped me to serve. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Pray for me to be able to adapt to this

divided in many small towns separated by

highways. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray the

Lord enables us to rebuild relationships damaged by

past mismanagement. Leadership has been lacking

positive way. Stand with us in faith for God to

provide new pastors for chapels full of many

my family has done some serious bouncing around

the country and the kids with their schools. God has

for it. We are excited and thankful for the chance to

attend Yale. My family's support has been fantastic.

I love them dearly, they're so flexible. PRAYER

REQUESTS: Pray for my kids as they transition

30 Thursday Ch Capt Chad Montgomery,

USAF, McConnell AFB, Deputy Wing Chaplain,

Wichita, KS (PCA - South Texas) Transitions are

often challenging. I could write a "things are

perfect" note, but post-fall life is mixed. On July 9

the unit gave us a farewell roast/share time and then

we started driving to Wichita, Kansas. Most

military Chaplains experience these. It is a reminder

of many things: people you poured into and missed

nights with your family in order to help will not be

there for various reasons. Some people you talked

too much less than others will thank you for what

you did. Many will just enjoy the moment and then

you are gone from their memory once you move.

Not unlike pastoral ministry and life in general. A

powerful reminder to me once again that we are

called to be faithful - see Luke 17:10. Our influence

does infiltrate many thanks be to God. PRAYER

Carolina since we have been there for almost 7

Care for and Cover the backs of” PRCC Chaplains.

These are challenging days for our Bible believing,

teaching and preaching Christian Chaplains, and

Jim and his PRCC Staff are working hard in all four

of these areas of ministry. Although Chaplain

salaries and operating expenses are paid for by the

institutions they work for, the PRCC Staff must

raise financial support from individuals and

churches to cover our salaries and operating

expenses. If you and/or your church are considering

some year end gifts to Christian Ministries, we

would be grateful if you would include us in those

considerations. You may donate online at

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for me as I

duties are more in the administrative realm of

ensuring our students receive the best possible

training as they serve the Lord and our nation's

Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardians. Since my

interest is in the history of our Chaplain Corps, I

have recently been given the opportunity to assist a

group in preparing for training that will be given

around the Navy in 2019. I am also beginning a

writing project that I hope will be used to educate

Tennessee Valley) My time as the Resource

Manager for the Religious Support Office at Ft.

Rucker is drawing to a close. I have orders to report

back to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, WA

on 08 January 2018. I will be serving as the 42d

Military Police Brigade Chaplain. This will be a

homecoming of two sorts. We were stationed at

JBLM from 2011-2015, so we are very familiar

with the area and already have a network of people

we look forward to reconnecting with. But also, this

will be my second time serving with Military

Police. In fact, I served in one of the MP Battalions

that falls under the 42d Brigade. I am very familiar

with the MP mission at JBLM which includes law

28

enforcement, as well as prison support. There is a

Regional Correctional Facility on JBLM. In my

time serving with MPs, I realize they are a branch

that never gets to really "come home" from

deployment. They carry a loaded firearm every day

to work. Their work puts them daily at risk for their

lives. When they kiss loved ones good by every

morning, it could be their last kiss. They work shift

work regularly, making it difficult to spend

meaningful blocks of time with family. And, by

nature of their job, they are often witnesses of the

worst humanity has to offer. PRAYER

REQUESTS: As you pray for our family, please

pray for our Military Police and their families as

they assist, protect, and defend our Service

members. Please also pray for our family, as we

will be separated while the kids finish up the school

year here in Alabama. In the summer of 2018, I will

come back and move the whole family back up to

Washington State. Please pray for an inexpensive

living situation for me while alone at JBLM.

relationships that were built during the deployment

continue to grow as we are back at home station.

We have recently started a bible study in our unit,

entitled CREDO: What do Christians really

PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray for the Lord's

blessing upon our study. I also ask that God would

Additionally, I've been teaching some material I

developed that is focused on financial stewardship

and ethical decision-making for young people as we

prepare for our Middle East deployment at the end

of the year. My family is well, with one entering 1st

grade, one in kindergarten, and the twins still at

23 Saturday Ch Maj Tony Wade, USAF, Travis

AFB, CA (PCA - Heritage) Greetings from

Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. I'm in the process of

leaving here to head to my next assignment. By the

time you are reading this, in God's Providence, I

will be the Deputy Wing Chaplain for the 60th Air

Mobility Wing, Travis Air Force Base, near San

Francisco, California. "God moves in mysterious

ways His wonders to perform." While it is a good

assignment (being a deputy wing Chaplain at a

large base), it was not our choice. Lisa and I had

hoped to be east of the Rocky Mountains, closer to

family. Hence, Lisa and I came to the difficult but

prayerfully-considered decision for Lisa and our

son, Nathanael, to stay in Centerville, Ohio (near

my previous assignment at Wright-Patterson Air

Force Base) while I serve in California on a two-

year unaccompanied tour. It's difficult, but it makes

sense for us: Nathanael has "special needs." In

Centerville, he and Lisa have well-established

connections: church, neighbors, medical care and

good schools for Nathanael. And on a positive note,

Travis is a major Air Force hub, and I will be able

to get back to Ohio on a fairly regular basis. And I'll

be able to plug into the local, Bay-area PCA

community, including attendance at Presbytery!

PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for Lisa and

Nathanael "keeping the home fires burning." Pray

for Lisa and me in this extended season of

separation. Pray for me in my role as the Deputy

Wing Chaplain on a large staff.

to encourage and motivate 40 plus Chaplains and

Chaplain Assistants in order to share God's love

(Gospel) with Soldiers in Area I, Korea. All our

2ID/ RUCD (ROK US Combined Division)

Chaplains and Chaplain assistants are busy

providing religious support (weekly worship

services, bible study and pastoral counseling , etc.)

to their units as they participate in several training

exercises this quarter. We have unique

opportunities here in Korea in that we work with

ROK (Republic of Korea) Army Chaplains as we

service our Soldiers because we train/ fight

together. Our Battalion Unit Ministry Teams

engage several community outreach programs, i.e.

weekly or monthly orphanage visits, English camp

and other community support opportunities in

sharing God's love. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please

pray for Chaplains and Chaplain Assistants to be

strong in the Lord as they endure this hardship tour.

Please pray for our Soldiers to maintain "Fight

tonight" readiness.

would not be possible without you. If the Lord has

blessed you financially in 2017, would you consider

sending a special year-end Christmas gift to be used

to serve and support our Chaplains? Checks would

be made out to PRCC Chaplain Ministries, and

mailed to: % Mission to North America,

PO Box 890233, Charlotte, NC 28289-0233. You

may also donate online at our website:

those whom you have called to support the work

and ministries of our PRCC Chaplains. Thank you

2017 and we pray that PRCC Chaplains everywhere

will continue to serve You faithfully and bravely,

despite opposition, and to advance Your Kingdom

in the new year”. We particularly pray for all

military personnel, Chaplains included, who are

separated from their families today, serving us and

our country in far-away and dangerous places. We

pray also for their families who are celebrating

Christmas without their deployed loved ones.

26 Tuesday CH (COL) Chip Huey Jr., USA, US

Army Chaplain School, Fort Jackson, SC (PCA -

Grace) I continue to serve as the Director of

Training at the Chaplain School. Since graduating

from the War College this summer I began

preaching in a new worship service on Fort

Jackson. I'm very glad to have the opportunity and

privilege. My daughter rejoined the family after a

year-long internship at a Christian camp in

Pennsylvania. Kristin and the boys, whom she

continues to home school, are thriving. PRAYER

27 Wednesday LT Matthew Fore, CHC, USN,

CREDO, Camp Pendleton, CA (KAPC - North

America Presbytery) I'm currently deployed in the

5th Fleet AOR with the USS Lake Erie. The crew is

doing well. Uniquely, this is the first deployment

for about 65% of the crew (to include myself). They

are a resilient bunch and we've bonded very well for

the first few months. We've had a number of port

visits to include a Humanitarian Assistance Disaster

Relief (HA/DR) operation in Sri Lanka. We still

have a way to go. We are in an area where our

adversaries could cause us harm. My family is

doing well. PRAYER REQUESTS: Please pray

for our safety Please also pray the Lord takes care

of my family while I am away.

28 Thursday CH (CPT) Robbie Rayburn II,

USA, Fort Campbell, KY (PCA - Missouri) I

have recently returned for Ranger School. The Lord

was gracious and I returned successfully and am

now looking forward to reintegrating with my

family and with my battalion here at Fort Campbell.

We are also shortly back from Afghanistan and all

our Company and Battalion Commanders will be

changing out, so it will take a little while to get to

know the new team. I am looking forward to getting

back into the swing of things at home and am

praying that we will see new faith in the Battalion

as well as deepening faith in God and in His

provision for His people. PRAYER REQUESTS:

Please pray that the 3rd Brigade Chaplains have the

wisdom to understand how to minister to our

Soldiers. Pray also that new doors will be opened to

share the gospel and that I would have the courage

to walk through them.

29 Friday CH (CPT) Matt Oliver, USA,

Squadron Chaplain, Fort Carson, CO (PCA -

North Texas) We are in the thick of our training,

preparing for deployment early in 2018. This means

more time in the field and less time with family.

Many of these Soldiers are already struggling with

their marriages and personal lives. Fortunately, they

are reaching out for help. I have opportunities in the

field and in my office where I enter into the lives of

these Soldiers. I am not going on this next

deployment. I report to "the schoolhouse" JAN2018

for our Chaplain Captains Career Course (C4).

PRAYER REQUESTS: Pray for ministry

opportunities with Soldiers and their families, for

protection over our marriage, that my current

Chaplain Assistant will have a heart for ministry

and willingness to serve, and for my replacement -

We need a Chaplain who cares about Soldiers, is

willing to die to self, and has the skills to lovingly

shine Light into the darkness, and that I finish

strong.
