Son of God – Movie Trailer

Highwater Church 4 February 2014

Keeping Warm As I type this, the outdoors feels like a freezer. I look at the 10-day forecast, and we won’t see tem-

peratures above the freezing mark. We get a new covering of snow every day. Each night, my children go to

bed hoping for a cancelation or at least a delay to the start of the next day. One recent Sunday morning, Danny

Steele noted jokingly that he really likes winter until Christmas Day passes. Yes, the first six days of winter

are fun; it’s the last three months of it that stays way too long.

What warms you this time of year? I love to come home after a long day, kick off my cold, wet shoes,

and put the ugliest things imaginable—a pair of humongous black “mammoth crocs” on my feet—they in-

stantly begin warming me, from the ground up. I like to sit in front of the fire with family and friends. I like

to cuddle with our family dog, since the kids are getting way too old for that sort of thing.

Lately, our weekly scriptures have pointed us in the direction of calling. I am warmed by my calling,

because it reminds me of renewal. It reminds me of a time when I was just lost—when my self had not found

its true purpose. I held several jobs but none ever felt like a greater purpose—none felt like a calling. I am

warmed to my soul by the fact that God had a greater purpose for me than I could have imagined. I am

warmed by the fact that I wake up each morning, even when times are difficult, geared up to go and do the

work that I am called for. I am so fortunate that at all times, my work either requires me to either have fun,

brighten lives, sort through difficult times, and draw nearer to the Lord—and often times, it’s combinations of

the above. I am blessed—and warmed—indeed.

Peace,

Pastor Scott

We would like to thank you for thinking of us at Christmas, and

sharing such a generous gift. We love it at Highwater and appre-

ciate the wonderful support you share, and the loving friendships

that have developed.

Peace,

Men’s Prayer Breakfast Saturday, February 1st

See you at the Lighthouse on the Hill on Rte 62

across from Branstool’s Orchard at 8:00a.m.

Food pantry items are always welcomed and a

collection container is located in the Narthex. How-

ever, it would be great if everyone could remember

to bring an item to be collected on the last Sunday of

each month. Anything and everything from High-

water is always greatly appreciated !!

Also, we continue to collect 'change for change'. A

jar is located in the Narthex. Please

consider dropping some pocket

change into the jar. Missions will

allocate the collection to coordinate

with the church's current missions

project. Thank you for your ongo-

ing support as we help our

neighbors in need.

Thank You Highwater!

Our Little Red Wagon will be collecting again on

Sunday, February 23rd. Please have your

non-perishables ready. Monetary dona-

tions are always welcome.

It’s time to register for Camp!

Happy New Yaer! All lateness aside, I assure you that I did not flunk out of school! A few New Year’s Days ago, I drove

past a gas station, and proudly displayed on it’s electronic screen was a personal wish to us all, “Happy New

Yaer”.

Like this gas station, so many of us start a new year with good intentions and hopes of bettering our-

selves, only to fall short of the resolutions we had decided upon. Such is often the case of our spiritual lives –

we try to be better examples of faithful Christians and don’t meet the goals we had hoped for. Even though

these sins, errors, and mistakes can seem to show as bright as an electronic billboard, thanks to our Lord Jesus

Christ, every one of them is forgiven, wiped clean and erased as though it never happened. So rejoice, my

brothers and sisters of faith, knowing there is great hope and spiritual cleansing through Jesus!

I am greatly looking forward to everything this year holds for our church. We will be continuing our

Confirmation classes with the older youth. Topics are deep, but our group jumps right in with great interest

and always ends the night with new and greater knowledge of our Savior. On the 2nd of February, we will be

having a game day during the chili cook-off. More details to come! Finally, on February 16th, we will be hav-

ing a Valentine’s Dinner! The kids will take on the role of waiters and waitresses, and it is sure to be a great

night for all! Keep your eyes peeled for more details and events, and bring the warmth of Jesus into the lives of

those around you in this cold season!

All peace and fellowship - Mr. Zach
