The highlight of the month is always our Father’s Day Celebration and this year fathers, families and friends will enjoy Mario’s Touch of Brazil; a delightful music and dance experience while dining at Chef Salvador’s Brazilian Brunch that includes a variety of meat carvings, Brazilian rice & beans, watermelon salad, Brazilian bananas, banana cake and chocolate pudding all while sipping on Brazil’s national cocktail, the Passion Fruit Caipirinha. We welcome summer with the return of Summer Concerts on the Patio. Pasadena Highlands residents have many fond memories of this program. This years’ summer series will be held on Saturday evenings beginning on June 3rd with the Stu & Laurie Variety Show. On June 10th, we welcome crooner Tony Dettore. June 17th brings back the classical sounds of The Pasadena Strings and on June 24th it’s Phantom of the Opera with Sherrill & Kathy. Our summer trips begin with the LA Arboretum on Sunday, June 11th. Join fellow residents for a relaxing tram ride through the bountiful beauty of summertime flowers in full bloom. This trip is sure to bring back many Memories Remembered and will continue monthly throughout the summer season. Our annual June trip to San Manuel Casino awaits you on June 15th. Summer isn’t summer without a trip to Long Beach for a luncheon at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and a Harbor Cruise. On June 29th, Night on the Town takes us to a summer evening of dining on the patio at La Grande Orange. Our Getting To Know You this month will feature Welcome Committee Chairperson Marge Houpt. Sunday June 25th at 7:15 PM Music Remembered Series - TheaterMusic Remembered continues. Resident Donald Brand presents you with recordings of outstanding popular singers of the past 80 years. Don’t miss this opportunity to listen to the music of uniquely popular singers. JPL Lecture Series Thursday, June 1st at 6:30 PMThe Golden Age of Exploration. JPL missions have visited every planet in our solar system. Over the past 15 years, three rovers have explored Mars in coordination with a number of orbiters. Samples have been brought to Earth from a comet tail as well as the solar wind. Saturn and its moons have been studied extensively by Cassini. Planets have been discovered around neighboring stars. Many new insights in our planet’s environment have been acquired. Charles Elachi Professor, Caltech JPL Director (2001-2016) will describe, from firsthand experience, the excitement and impact of these discoveries and the challenges and risks for the next 15 years. This special type of Speech Therapy offers comprehensive evaluation and individualized treatment programs for residents who have developed speech, swallowing, or cognitive speech issues. This style of therapy will facilitate improvement of communication skills, alternative communication methods, and facilitate with safe oral swallowing.
