New Year Gathering cum New Office

Opening on 3 January 2009

We were amazed by a crowd of members and friends

coming to the IPSHK office in HKPC Building to

celebrate the opening of our new office and at the

same time to welcome the year of 2009. The gathering

was held at the LG1 balcony of the building. Our ex-

Chairmen, Dr. Patrick FUNG and Mr. Steve TSANG

joined us as well. A simple lunch buffet was served.

Members and friends had an enjoyable afternoon.

BBQ & Golf Day on 14 February 2009

14 February 2009 was a nice Spring day. Even we had

only a dozen of participants, the feel was great. The

day started with a special whole duck BBQ followed

by a golf driving range practice coached by our

Chairman Mr Timothy LAM and ex-Chairman Mr

Steve TSANG.

Our Chairman was so kind to sponsor "Red Pocket

Prize" for any beginner who could drive more than

100 yards. Mr Willy LAI, an experienced "beginner",

achieved the target in the first drive and was followed

by the “old beginner” Mr Stephen CHAN doing the

same by using a club "P". A virgin beginner, Mr

Henry CHU performed extraordinary well. Mr Ken

NG, Mr CY LAU, Ms Zoe CHAN, Mr Gary LIN, and

Ms Grace TSANG joined the game too. The missing

link, Mr David LEE, our Vice-Chairman had a more

enjoyable job - "watching his grandson cycling".

On behalf of the participants, we like to thank Mr

Timothy LAM and Mr Steve TSANG for their

coaching. Our Chairman kept his promise by offering

us the red pockets.

IPSHK 36th Anniversary Symposium on

"Green Purchasing - policies, trends, myths

and view from a supplier's perspective"

cum Annual General Meeting

on 23 May 2009

In the heavy rained Saturday afternoon of 23 May

2009, some 70 members and friends got together at

the lecturing theatre of the School of Continuing and

Professional Education in the City University of

Hong Kong campus hoping to get more information

about Green Purchasing and its impacts to the

industry and the community. The turn-out rate was

encouraging and showed that the topic was welcome

by the Members.

We had three experts delivering related messages

but from different perspectives. Ms Linda HO, CEO

of Green Council, gave us the overview of green

purchasing while Professor CHUNG Shan Shan of

Hong Kong Baptist University highlighted that many

"green products" were actually fake. Ms Katherine

LAU of Fuji Xerox demonstrated what the green

supply chain should look like.

The symposium was concluded by our President, Dr.

Stephen NG. It was an informative symposium that

enjoyed by all participants, both the speakers and the

audience.

Sport Fashion on 14 March 2009

On 14 March 2009, we have organized a seminar

namely "Brand Development and Global Sourcing

Strategy of Sport Fashion", It is our honor to have 2

distinguished speakers from the sporting industry to

share their expertise on brand development and global

sourcing strategy: Mr. Bob SHORROCK – President of

Ching Luh Group (formerly Head of Global Sourcing

for Adidas group) and Mr. Dennis P. ALLEN – Vice

President & Managing Director of Taylor Mate-Adidas

Golf Asia Pacific Region. This seminar is co-organized

by The Hong Kong University of Science &

Technology - Master of Technology Management

Alumni Association.

Study Tour to NP360 on 18 April 2009

Ngong Ping 360 (NP360) cable car trip has been a hot

tourist spot since the beginning. We had a good turn up

rate in last November and 18 April 2009 was our

second tours to visit NP360.

Right after the symposium, a ceremony of presenting

the scholarship to the best performed students in the

last three years for the IPSHK supported program -

Professional Diploma in Merchandising Management

(PDMM) by IVE (Shatin), was hosted by our

Chairman Mr Timothy LAM.

Inventory Management Best Practices

seminar on 08 July 2009

On 8 July 2009 Wednesday afternoon, the “Inventory

Management Best Practices” seminar, organized by

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, co-organized

by Hong Kong Logistics Association, was held in

Chiang Chen Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong

Polytechnic University.

Our Institute was one of the supporting organizations.

Our President, Dr. Stephen NG and our Chairman, Mr.

Timothy LAM were the guests of Honor.

The topic of this Seminar was about improving

business operations by using inventory information.

Several logistics experts and management staff of best

practices companies delivered related messages in

different perspectives. Around 250 people including

the SME owners and their top management staff

participated.

Seminar on Achieving Total Quality in

Merchandising on 29 August 2009

It was definitely one of the most favourable

seminars in IPSHK history. The seminar was

jointly co-organized by CareerTimes and HKPC. It

attracted more than 180 audiences. We had

members coming from both IPSHK and

CareerTimes. The feedback was very good. We

had 92% of the audiences rated Good to Excellent

and more than 70% expressed that they learnt a

great deal from the seminar. Total 96% of the

audiences would participate in similar event.

All three speakers from IPSHK, Mr David LEE,

Mr Johnny SHU and Mr Stephen CHAN, had

shared their practical experiences with great sense

of humor. The seminar was unique because all

three topics were not exactly inter-related but yet

they encountered some common issues.

In the morning of 26 September 2009, 35 participants

gathered at Shek Mun MTR Station, Siu Lek Yuen.

The punctuality of the group proved how eager they

were to pay the visit to Circle K Distribution Centre.

followed by a detail explanation of the operation flow

of Circle K logistics function by Mr. Bruce MA.

participants in the university-type lecture theatre.

A physical tour was arranged in three groups led by

the responsible managers of Circle K. The efficient

and effective work flow impressed every participant.

The tour was concluded at Circle K convenience store

at G/F of the building. We had chance to see how the

replenishment of the stock in the convenience store

and experienced how freshness was the bread.

A lunch was arranged at Star Floating Seafood

Restaurant. All participants were laughing all the way

home with a IPSHK 2G memory stick as a gift.
