November 13 & 14, 2004, Hamilton Dog Training Club, OH MOTIVATIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP WITH WENDY VOLHARD AND MARY ANN ZEIGENFUSE

A 2 day motivational, working seminar focused on teaching, practicing, and training your dog through positive reinforcement. Wendy Volhard, along with her husband Jack, is internationally recognized as a “trainer of trainers”. During their 25 years as active exhibitors, the Volhards’ have earned over 50 conformation, working, and performance titles with their Landseer New-foundlands, German Shepherd Dog, Labrador Retriever, Standard Wirehaired Dachshunds and Yorkshire Terrier. Mary Ann Zeigenfuse is the lead instructor at the Volhard’s annual training camps, operates Best Friends Obedience, Inc. – the largest training school in Central Kentucky, and is the author of 'Dog Tricks: Step by Step' (Howell Book House, 1997). She has been teaching dog obedience since 1980.

This is a working seminar to be held at the Hamilton Dog Training Club, 2716 Symmes Road, Fairfield, OH 45014. Fee includes lunch and refreshments. Fresh water will be available for all dogs. President’s Report: No news to report.

Treasurer’s Report—Motion made

by Mike Merians to accept the Treas-urer’s Report as read. Seconded. Motion carried.

Membership—No news to report.

Fall Specialty—Al Reich noted that not all the expenses for the Fall Spe-cialty have been submitted. He reported that the Raffle had a net profit of ap-proximately $800. The location of the show was discussed and everyone agreed it was a good site. It was suggested that the club sell bottled water next year. Having swimming pools available for dog hospitality was also discussed.

Motion was made by Cindy Skiba to pur-chase a 10’ x 20’ tent similar to the one used for the raffle. Seconded. Discus-sion followed. Motion was tabled until next month’s meeting.

Field Report— No news to report.

Old Business— The club’s policy on

the cost to place litter ads in the newslet-ter for inactive members was discussed at length. It was suggested that the num-ber of functions required to maintain an active membership be decreased. It was also suggested that the club redefine what constitutes a “function” to be counted toward the required number. This policy was originally voted on by the Board and the membership present re-ferred the policy back to the Board for further consideration.

New Business— The November 5 Board Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m.

As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.

General Membership Meeting Minutes—October 1, 2004

IAMS REP TO SPEAK AT NOVEMBER MEETING

Pamela Hurst, RVT, is our guest speaker for the November membership meeting. Pam is the Manager of Influencer Markets for The Iams Company in Dayton, Ohio. In a recent article in Veterinary Technician Magazine, Pam discussed how pet nutri-tion is a huge part of her life. “It’s critical for me to keep up to date on product changes and how nutrition impacts dogs and cats,” she says. Customer service is another important aspect of her job. “I love sharing my expertise about nutrition with other people who embrace the love of animals,” she says. “I feel it is so impor-tant to give our companion pets the best quality of life possible.”

Pam will speak to the group on how to decide what food to feed what dog, depend-ing on their life stage and activity level.

Pam has been a veterinary technician for over 25 years. She is married with two children and has three grandsons. Her family also includes a geriatric lab and a neurotic but loving cat. In her spare time, Pam helps several local hu-mane societies with fundraising events and public awareness.
