“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” This is the Canticle or Song of Simeon. Catholics around the world who pray the liturgy of the hours recite this Canticle at night prayer before retiring every night. It becomes a familiar prayer and each time I pray it I think of what the glory is that is revealed. Simeon was promised to see the Christ of the Lord (as Luke refers to Jesus Christ) that was his revelation. The Christ of the Lord reveals glory to us as well. We have had several funerals in our Collaborative and the message of Christ’s resurrection is the revelation we believe in. It brings comfort and strength, sometimes right away but often in time. The Church used to have processions with candles and those of an older generation may remember this feast being called Candlemas in some Countries it is the Purification of Mary Mass. This is actually part of the Christmas Celebration because it involves Christ as baby, and we are 40 days from Christmas. It is a festival of light much like after 40 days of lent we light a paschal fire recognizing that Christ bring the light of the Resurrection that first Easter Sunday Morning. So, this festival of Light connects to another Festival of Light. All of us through Baptism are invited to carry the light of the Lord with us. Sunday January 26, we had a very successful open house for our Saint Bridget’s School and on Tuesday January 28 the Head of the Catholic School Office Mr. Thomas Carroll came to Mass and to tour our wonderful School during Catholic Schools week. I could tell he was very pleased with our faculty, administration, and of course our students and their parents. Special thanks to Mr. Matt Collins our school principal for his dedication and hard work. May God continue to Shine Light through the Light of Christ Collaborative. Father Tom
