FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

PRO-LIFE PROCESSION January 22, 2020 is the 47th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade. As a result of this decision, there have been over 56,000,000 legalized abortions performed in the United States since 1973. The Respect Life Committee of our collaborative is planning a pro-life procession to be held at the 4:00PM Mass on January 18th at St. Bridget as well as the 10:30AM Mass on January 19th at Holy Ghost. The procession will honor the memory of the unborn and remind us how precious is the gift of life. WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS (ALL DIFFERENT AGES) TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESSION. If you or your child are interested, please call Colleen Booker at 781-878-0900 or email her at [email protected] and let her know which Mass you will be attending, Name, birth year and email address. We need 49 people for each Mass. Please consider volunteering.

Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality The Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of the Light of Christ Collaborative will hold its first meeting of the new year on January 6th in Fr. Glennon Hall at Holy Ghost Church. We will start the meeting at 6:30 PM with the rosary in honor of Our Blessed Virgin Mary. This month's speaker will be Bruce Perry, of the food pantry who will let us know how the panty operates. Our food pantry is a wonderful organization taking care of many people in need in our area. We look forward to learning more about it. Refreshments will he served, and our usual business meeting will take place. The monthly raffle will also be held. We welcome new members.

Happy Epiphany!! Ironically, I am writing this Christmas Day so that I can make sure it is in the Bulletin for January 2020. Hopefully everyone is still enjoying the Christmas season, we can carry the joy of every Christmas throughout life. Even those for who the holidays are not so easy, hopefully we can all be a glimmer of light for them. The Wise men’s gifts must have puzzled, a family living in a stable with Gold (symbolic of wealth) Frankincense (Used by priest to Bless and see in the smoke that rises our prayers being lifted to Heaven) and Myrrh ( in small amounts used in medicine, and larger amounts soaked clothes for burial) . Unusual gifts for an unusual Savior his wealth symbolized by humility and a crown of thorns, his Priesthood marked by recommitting people to love of God and neighbor supremely seen at the altar of the Cross, and of course Christ heals, died for our sins, and the empty wrappings Easter Morning – the promised resurrection. All these gifts are given in baptism in prayers, ritual action, and smells (two fragrant oils get used). Next week we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus as we bless ourselves with Holy Water may we recommit to HIM who shares his gifts with us. The priests wish to thank everyone who gave gifts to us at Christmas time. And thank you too for your donations to the Clergy Health Retirement collection. Happy New Year, Father Tom

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities. Our Church leaders and pastors work tirelessly to serve our Church both within and well beyond the walls of our parishes, as is evidenced by the examples above and below.

Pine Street Inn: Fr. Frank Kelley, Fr. Bill Joy and Boston urban priests created what we know today as the Pine Street Inn. This local organization provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.

Rostro de Cristo: Fr. Jim Ronan founded this agency, which provides life-changing service opportunities for young adults to serve those on the margins in Ecuador. While continuing to shepherd Rostro, Fr. Jim Ronan also serves as pastor of St. Mary-St.Catherine of Sienna in Charlestown, where hundreds of families look to the parish food pantry for groceries.

Civic and Community Support: In Dorchester, Fr. Linh Nguyen, the pastor of St. Ambrose Parish, leads a strong and vibrant faith community while also providing civic support for his parishioners, many of whom came here from Vietnam with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

Fire Chaplaincy: Fr. John Unni of St. Cecilia’s in Boston and Fr. Dan Mahoney, pastor of St. Francis de Sales in Charlestown, serve our community as chaplains for the Boston Fire Department.

It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities for all of us.

Please support the special Christmas collection for our priests at Christmas Masses in your parish or at clergytrust.org.

Seasons GreetingsAnd the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while,

will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. - Peter 5:10
