Back Packs As the summer slowly passes many of our clients with school age children are asking if we will have back packs with pencils, pins, paper and etc. this year. If anyone in the Parish would like to help us with this request we would be grateful. We are currently serving over 200 school age children. We have more children in middle school and high school than we do in the lower grades. In this week ends newspaper many stores are having sales on school supplies. If you choose to help, please leave the back packs and supplies with any food donations in the upper church or the St Vincent DePaul box in the Chapel. Thank you for your continued support and God Bless.

Studio Two - The Beatles Tribute is back by popular demand on July 31st. The month of August brings to the bandstand a variety of new musical acts. We begin on Sunday, August 7th with Five O’Clock Shadow an all-male vocal acappella group. Don’t cook; let the Abington Lions Club grill up some burgers and dogs at the “Snack Shack”. Then enjoy hand scooped ice cream from the traveling cart of CREAM. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy great “free” outdoor music.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, Jesus instructs his disciples and the crowd on how to be ready for the coming judgment. Suddenly a man in the crowd shouts out to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” Jesus uses the question to teach what life really consists of. Jesus tells the crowd a parable. In the parable of the rich fool Jesus gives a lesson on using material possessions. His lesson contains a warning to beware of all greed. Jesus restates the commandment to not be greedy, but he also states that a person's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. In this little parable Jesus probes the heart -- where is your treasure? Treasure has a special connection to the heart, the place of desire and longing, the place of will and focus. The thing we most set our heart on is our highest treasure. What do you treasure most? Lord, free me from all greed and from attachment to possessions. May I wholly desire you as my treasure and portion. Help me to make good use of the material blessings you give me that I may use them generously for your glory and for the good of others. Save the Date. Bishop Reed (former Pastor of Holy Ghost) will be coming to Holy Ghost Parish to celebrate the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, September 3, 2016. After Mass we will host a light reception for Bishop Reed in the Cardinal Spellman Center. All are invited to attend. People wishing to assist with the reception are asked to call the rectory and give your name and contact information. Holy Ghost Grand Annual Collection - Update. We are almost halfway through our Grand Annual to fund the Air-Conditioning for the Church. I am pleased to inform you that we were able to order 4 more Units for the upstairs Church. These units should be installed within the next week or so (they MAY be installed and running as early as next weekend!). As more money is collected, more units will be purchased and installed. The new electricity to the building that was installed last month cost more than what was expected. The old service ran under the street into the building. Thankfully we did not have to dig up the entire street and install the new service underground. We were able to have new service brought into the building above ground, but we had to drill through 32 inches of solid stone to get into the building. Anyway, I am confident that by the end of the Grand Annual and making our Goal, we will have a fully Air-Conditioned Church. Historically, the summer months saw a large decrease in attendance due to the heat and humidity in the building. Many parishioners went to other churches with air-conditioning for comfort and health reasons. This will assist us greatly in the years to come as the Church will be so much more welcoming during the summer heat. Thank you for all your support.

The Summer Vacation Season is upon us. All of us at the Collaborative hope that you have a restful and enjoyable summer vacation wherever you may find yourself. Thank you for remembering our parishes financially while you are away! Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

St. Joseph the Worker’s Sodality of Our Lady invites all to join us on Wednesday, August 10th in the Upper Hall at1 Maquan Street in Hanson for our annual tea. We will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the Rosary and will then enjoy an evening filled with good food, friendship, and beverages. Bring a tea cup and a friend. For more information, please contact Kathy Burgess at 781-439-0908. New members always welcome!

The 10 young girls that went to Challenge Summer Camp this past week wanted to thank all those that supported them monetarily and with prayers. They had a wonderful week filled with Mass, Adoration, and Confession to strengthen their spiritual life. They also had fun and games with sporting events, swimming and exciting night activities. All of the girls came home with a greater love for Jesus and for the Mass and daily prayers.
