RCLP HISTORY

The Rotaract Club ofLiguanea Plains (RCLP) is acommunity-based service clubfounded in 2008 and spon-sored by the Rotary Club ofLiguanea Plains.

RCLP consists of young menand women who are dedicated

to making a difference in theircommunities.

We aim to be active in sociallyuplifting programmes, pro-mote literacy and be mentorsto the leaders of tomorrow.

The July 30th Installation Ceremony of the new executithe Rotaract Club of Liguanea Plains (RCLP) marked a new cter in the clubs history.

It also marked the beginning of an exciting year of activitioutlined by New Club President, Yahneake Sterling.We will begin the transformation of our community by impleming a mentorship programme at the Jamaica National Child

Home. We have already visited the home and have assessedneeds. Literacy will be a key area of our focus she said in hespeech as Club President.

The Club has adopted the New Providence Primary Scas its community service project. The school will continue to recattention with more work expected on improvements to the reaarea.

Collaboration is another key theme of RCLP activities fonew year as noted by President Yahneake and will include thedertaking of activities with other Rotaract Clubs and the Pclub.Contd Pg 2

Aswe strive to change our world, onecommunity at a time, we believe it isimportant to fellowship and share ourlove for service.The 2010-2011 Rotaract Year is anexciting one for us and we aim tomake a difference in our community.

This newsletter is just one example ofhow we aim to be Bigger, Better,Bolder in our efforts to grow andexpand our reach.This issue outlines some of the activi-ties that we have undertaken sincethe start of the New Rotaract Yearincluding our Installation ceremonyand some of our community serviceprojects.LPM

The RI Presidents Monthly message September 201Bigger, Better, Bolder

This year marks a significant anniversary for Rotary! Although the Rotary Club of Chstarted in 1905, the first convention of Rotary clubs was held in August of 1910 with 60 Rans representing 16 clubs. Our history as an organization of Rotary clubs started with that ing in 1910, and we are now commencing a second century of service for Rotary as an astion.

All of us want this century of service to be even more successful than the last. Therefore, an opportune time to ask: Are we taking the right steps to ensure that success? Are we the right things? Do we have a clear vision of the future? In the words of America the Bful, can we see beyond the years?

As Rotarys 100th president, I believe we are moving in the right direction. Our 33,000 cluRotarys biggest asset, and our success in the next 100 years will depend on the ability clubs to remain vibrant and vital. Their strength will determine our success!

The RI Board has taken several steps to offer more assistance to our clubs this year, inclcreating the Rotary Coordinators program to assist district governors in providing informabout Rotary Internationals programs and best practices to the clubs.

I firmly believe that if we help our clubs to become better and bolder, then the clubs will bebigger both because of the increased pride of our Rotarians in their clubs and the increawareness of Rotary by prospective members. Therefore, my goal is to help the district gnors to help their clubs to become Bigger, Better, and Bolder!

This is a great time to be a Rotarian. Together we can make this century of service evenexciting than the last!

A New Chapter contd...

We intend to join with our Parent Club inbringing quality health care to five (5) newcommunities across the island this year. Wewill partner with other Rotaract Clubs, becausewe know that through collaboration, we canachieve more together she said.

Addressing the audience at the event,

Trevor Riley, President of the Rotary Club ofLiguanea Plains, recommended that both clubspool efforts and promised that RCLP will seean improvement in the attendance of membersof the parent club to Rotaract meetings.

The new team consists of PresidentYahneake Sterling, Vice-President Tanya Wal-ters, Secretary Michelle Rattigan, TreasurerGeorgia Munroe Director of Community Ser-vices, Tasha Wilson, Director FundraisingKhadrea Folkes, Director Public RelationsKevin Clarke, Director International RelationsKerry-Ann Ebanks, Director Professional De-

The event hailed the entry of ateam but was also an opportunity to lookat a year of activities. Immediate Past dent Tasha Wilson presented awards toviduals who made an impact in her yepresidency.

The world of reading andeducation excited the children

at the National ChildrensHome in St. Andrew whoturned out to soak up the funand knowledge from a wide ofvariety of books donated bythe RCLP on Saturday July 24,2010.

From mysteries tomagazines; fairytales and fan-tasies-- the youngsters wereabuzz as Rotaractors brought

volumes of books and re-source material for the Homeslibrary.

On August 28, 2010 RCLPmembers visited the JamaicaNational Childrens Homeonce again, this time to hold aback-to-school treat for theover 50 wards present at thefacility. The children werefeted by members who camebearing gift of school suppliesand a party atmosphere.

The supplies were

handed over to the DeputyDirector of the Home, NicoleFacey by RCLP President,Yahneake Sterling.These school supplies will

certainly go a far way in help-ing the children to be ade-quately prepared for school inthe New Year she said.A grateful Deputy Director,

RCLP kicked offMember-ship Extension Month activi-ties with its Second annualmembership Drive on August18, 2010. By all indications theevent was a major success!

The club meeting room atEden Gardens was full to ca-pacity with prospects whoturned out in their numbers forthe RCLP experience. In addi-tion to the Non-Rotaract visi-tors, President of the Rotaryclub of Liguanea Plains,RCLP's parent organization,Trevor Riley was also in atten-

dance. Rotarian Sydney Low-rie made an informative pres-entation to the captive audi-ence on the history of the Ro-tary movement and Rotaractand its place in Jamaica.

Of course the night wouldnot be complete without somefun and excitement to give pro-spective members somethingto remember and after the for-malities were concluded the

fun began.This segment of the eve-

ning was started with the re-

turn of a perennial favourite,"Who Wants to be a Rotarac-tor?" a take on the popular"Who wants to be a Million-aire?" game show with a Rota-ract twist.

But that was only the be-ginning of the excitement forthe evening because up nextwas Rotaboo, anotherRotaract take on a pop culturegem, Taboo!

The most anticipated por-

tion of the nights festivitieswas up next, the alwaysexciting Dutch Auction whichsaw bidders vying for an Olym-pus DigitalCamera along with two flashcards with maximum storagecapacity of 2GB.
