Welcome  September 15 2013

Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to

Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much

as we can, we want to help you feel at home here.

In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card foryou to complete.

There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special

Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make.

All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table

by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute

Most Churches have a sign that tells people who they are and then gives details

of service times and contact details. At the bottom there is generally a welcome.

One Church wanted to make sure people got the welcome bit!

We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay,

filthy rich or dirt poor. We welcome those who are crying new-borns, skinny as a

rail or could afford to lose a few pounds.

We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or like our pastor who can’t

carry a note in a bucket. You’re welcome here if you’re “just browsing,” just woke

up or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, or

haven’t been in church since little Joey’s Baptism.

We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet,

and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome soccer moms,

NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, junk-food

eaters.

We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if

you’re having problems or you’re down in the dumps or if you don’t like

“organized religion,” we’ve been there too.

If you blew all your offering money at the dog track, you’re welcome here. We

offer a special welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t

work, can’t spell, or because grandma is in town and wanted to go to church.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We offer a special welcome

to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down your throat

as a kid or got lost in traffic and wound up here by mistake. We welcome

tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts … and you!

My kind of welcome! Great to have you at UPBC today.

God BlessNeil

Pastoral Care Communication

If you have a pastoral care need or information you would like to pass on please contact

Allan Stanley-Smith directly rather than the church office. His contact details are

[email protected] or [email protected] or his telephone details

are in the church directory.

Love in Action Operation Christmas Child is our Love in Action.

Operation Christmas Child shares the gift of God’s love, world-wide, with children in

orphanages, refugee camps, hospitals, schools, and remote areas. Each box is

accompanied by a copy of the gospel and an opportunity to learn about Jesus.

Please remember before you shop to read the flyer for gift ideas and prohibited

items and remember that everything in the box must be brand new, no pre-

loved things

Boxes can be returned to UPbc or placed at the front of the church under the

display

All boxes need to be back by Sunday 20th

October

The boxes cost 50 cents each to produce so can you please leave your money in the

container on the table?

It would be very special if you could include a photo and a little note. Including the cost

of $9.00 will cover all the shipping costs of your box.

Please pray that your box will be a blessing to a child who will come to know Jesus

because you cared.

Thank you for helping us with Operation Christmas Child

Prayer meeting after the service today

Would love to see you there for short time of prayer after the service today, September15.

"Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not

know..." Jer. 33:3

Pre-service prayer

We plan to meet each Sunday morning before the coffee time and before the service, in

Neil Ryan's office for a short time of prayer at 9.45 a.m. All welcome.

"Did I not say to you, if you believe, you will see the glory of God"? John 11:40

Pray for these familiesNames for this week beginning September 15:

  John & Gaynor Brook

  Lyn Brown

Calvin & Jane Burgess, Katie Luscombe

  Doug & Sandy Castle

  Walter Chatindira

  Marilyn & Steve Clarke

This coming week Tim is planning to spend some time helping the

ABCCOP office (Alliance of Bible Christian Communities of the

Philippines - essentially a denomination started as a joint effort

between several missions many years ago) to set up their

computer network systems. It may be a kettle of fish as he maywell discover the needs are far greater than what he has been

asked to do. Please pray for wisdom as he evaluates their needs

and tries to help. Annalise will also celebrate her 6th

birthday this

coming Friday with a party after school with her new friends. Pray

that she would continue to grow in her trust in Jesus.

It’s a big week in our household – Rachel turns 18 on Tuesday

(17th

)!! We are excited (and a little nostalgic) to be celebrating this

milestone with her. We continue to covet your prayers for our kids, especially Rachel as she faces a big year ahead with year 12 studies

and lots of decisions to be made about her future direction.

This coming Friday the parenting course starts up again. Please

pray for the mums (and families) represented in this group, that

God’s Word will encourage them and challenge them!

Asylum seekers and refugees event

A one-day event exploring the Christian Response to Asylum Seekers and Refugees.

What causes someone to risk everything and flee to a country like Australia?

Hear from presenters who have experience working with Asylum Seekers: in advocacy,

in detention centres, and helping with the complexities of settling into the Australian

community.

Listen to those who are currently seeking asylum in Australia, as they share their stories

first-hand.

We can do more and must do more as Christians, to welcome the newcomers amongst

us. Together, we will explore what is currently being done to assist asylum seekers and

generate new ideas.
