Albert Einstein wisely stated that "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” From a man who packed a bit more brainpower than the average Joe, I might be inclined to take a cue from ol' Al. As we begin 2013, the time is now to start fresh and make positive change for the future.

If your goal this year is to shape up and shed those not-so-festive holiday pounds, then check out this month's workout guide for everything from Pilates to martial arts. Find your perfect fit from

our list of local studios, clubs and classes and hop off that treadmill to nowhere!

As parents get a jump start on deciding where to enroll their children in school this fall, our "Spotlight on Private Schools" offers insight on a variety of options for ages 18 months to high school. We'll help you navigate through the maze of choices and introduce you to some of south Orange County's top-notch educational institutions. Many of the schools featured are hosting admissions open houses and tours throughout the month of January so take a peek at our centerfold calendar for specific dates and times.

A new program aptly named “Ross Medical’s Heroes” has been institut-ed to support South Orange County’s partnership with our military neigh-bors. The doctors at all four locations

have treated veterans and their families for years and many members of the Ross team have close personal military connections as well—including founder Dr. T.A. Ross, who came to California as a naval physician. Dr. Monica Harms of Ross’s Rancho Santa Margarita office is a navy reserves veteran, and Dr. Jeff Globus of the Mission Vie-jo clinic was a naval officer. CEO Samantha Jef-feries’s sister and brother-in-law are both active duty soldiers in Afghanistan and her father and brothers are retired from the Air Force. These ties and others provide Ross Medical’s staff with a keen awareness of the unique circumstances and specific needs of military families. This sense of appreciation has motivated the Ross group for its own call to action.

For all of 2013, Ross Medical Associates will hold a fundraiser for military-related charities and sup-port groups. The staff will accept tax-deduct-ible monetary donations on behalf of the military charity of the donor’s choice. In addition, Ross offices will donate a portion of patients’ copay-ments to military organizations as part of their “CoPay It Forward” initiative.

This type of community commitment is noth-ing new to Ross Medical. The foundation upon which the business model is built is Dr. Ross’s phi-

Ross Medical Associates’ long and storied history as a com-munity healthcare resource in Southern California just add-ed a few more chapters. With its most recently opened clinic in San Juan Capistrano going strong and approaching its three-year anniversary, executives at Ross have made plans to take an already-im-pressive philanthropic record a step further—and this time, it’s personal.

by Shelley T. hudSon

losophy that high-quality, family-based health-care should be accessible and convenient. Dr. Ross also believed strongly in reinvesting into the local area in which he served. Dozens of schools, sports leagues and booster clubs—in-cluding AYSO, J Serra, Niguel Hills, San Juan Hills, Saddleback Valley Christian, Capo Valley Christian, San Clemente High and Dana Hills, to name a few—have received the generous sup-port of Ross Medical Associates. In fact, Jeffer-ies encourages students to bring in their spon-sorship forms for consideration. “We want to participate in everything,” she says, “We want to be a true community partner.” Ross Medical will also continue to provide no-charge sports physicals to student athletes in 2013.

Another important component of Ross’s com-munity-minded approach to healthcare is the senior outreach program. Jefferies, who also is a Gerontologist, states, "When a senior be-comes established as a patient, we can provide them with so much information regarding diet, exercise and disease prevention." As a special incentive, Ross is offering free tetanus boost-ers to seniors throughout the month of January.

With Ross Medical’s fully-integrated state-of-the-art electronic record sharing, clinicians can address treatment for each patient holistically. All locations are connected on the same sys-tem, so follow-up care and diagnostic testing are more streamlined and comprehensive. For example, a student athlete with a sprained an-

kle might come to urgent care for an x-ray and a splint and learn that she’s due for an immunization. A heart patient might visit the office for a check-up and receive a dose of nutritional counseling.

Now that a federal healthcare overhaul is afoot, it’s even more important than ever to know the facts. More people will become eligible for covered preventative care early this year and insurance exchanges will be-come effective later in 2013. Ross Medical accepts most forms of insurance as well as Tricare, Medicare and Medicare Senior Ad-vantage. Samantha Jefferies encourages patients to call with questions. “We’ll guide you to resources and help you through the process,” she offers, “We are your medi-cal home. We see patients from one to 100 years of age and we want to help.”

Ross Medical Associates has offices in San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo—all of which are open 365 days a year. The combination of a personalized family prac-tice and an easily accessible urgent care is the realization of Dr. Ross’s vi-sion. he says, “As long as the IRS keeps up with its annual “tax simplification” strategies, you will want to use a professional who understands the constantly changing tax and financial environment.”

Peter stresses that “the start of the year is the perfect time for tax planning. It enables us to achieve a good sense of direction and work together with my undivided attention. This is true for any individual, small business, or corporation seeking to become more tax efficient and a better financial consumer.”

Knowledge of the tax laws is of little value unless they can be applied wisely to fully meet your needs. That is why Peter Prescott follows a comprehensive approach combining effective tax savings, advanced financial planning strategies and professional investment methodologies.

Why allow yourself to become anxious and stressed out about your taxes, retirement, college, or business planning? The best time to begin the process is now.

There are still many actions that can be taken to save you money this year and be better positioned for the future.

With Peter’s help you will benefit not only from his experience, but you’ll be able to relax a little more too! Call today to schedule a tax planning or tax return preparation meeting to take advantage of Peter’s New Client Offer.

His most important priority is his own family. His wife Margie is a homemaker and formerly a special education teacher in San Clemente. Pacific Preschool and Kindergarten has been educating and nurturing children in Orange County since September 1990. With locations in Laguna Niguel, Ladera Ranch and San Elijo Hills, Pacific Preschool is no ordinary school. It is accredited by the National Academy for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which is a distinction earned by only 8% of pre-schools nationwide. PPS was founded and de-veloped by Lynda Way after spending many years teaching kindergarten, first and second grades in Southern California.

With a Masters Degree in Early Education, Lynda understood the need for children to be more prepared for elementary school and beyond. With the help of her highly trained staff, Pacific Preschool provides a specific educational program that focuses on “school readiness.” All PPS teachers have a four-year degree or a California Department of Educa-tion Teaching Permit while working on a Bach-elor’s Degree. and her directors Kathi Rudner and Gloria Capozzoli (both 22 year members of the PPS staff), the school offers year-round programs for children 18-months through kindergarten.

PPS’s program focuses on a balanced ap-proach to the cognitive, socio-emotional and physical development of each child and their special individual abilities to progress toward success in each of these important areas. “Schools are competitive environments,” says Lynda Way. “Putting a child who hasn’t gone to a high-quality enriched preschool into kindergarten with children who have is putting that child at a big disadvantage.” PPS prepares students for kindergarten in 125 different skill areas through programming that is engaging, creative and fun. “Each child is assessed and tracked to determine their readiness; then a plan is developed to focus on their individual needs,” adds Lynda.

Birthday celebrations, a Halloween parade, a Thanksgiving feast, a Christ-mas program, an Easter egg hunt and a cap and gown graduation ceremony are just some of the school’s special events. During the summer, SCP offers a “Fun in the Sun Program” that includes weekly field trips, special activities and entertainment.

San Clemente Preschool serves children ages 20 months to 6 years and is open year round. It is an academic-based school that incorporates a preschool curriculum within the hours of full day childcare. Every class prepares a child for their next level of learning and the Pre-Kindergarten program exceeds the stan-dards for C.U.S.D. kindergarten entrance. Music and math is combined in a very unique piano class that is just one of the programs providing students with tools for successful learning.

Each student at CVCS reads and studies God’s Word regularly. Educators seek to show students how the truth of every dis-cipline finds its source in God and His work. They learn that God’s handiwork is revealed in Science, His goodness and justice in His-tory, His beauty in Art and Music, and His order and design in Mathematics. All are given opportunities to serve locally as well as internationally with missions trips to places as far away as Russia! In junior high, apologetics is introduced, and by the time students graduate from high school, they are well-prepared to defend their faith in this ever changing world.

CVCS offers an environment in which each student has the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities from champi-

onship athletics, award winning performing arts, and unique student leadership pro-grams that help them understand where they fit into God’s plan.

Ok, very good and almost there. Let's eliminate the top two lines in the upper right corner, it's worded better in the scripted lines just below and it's basically duplicated, then maybe we can make that font size bigger (meaning the State of the Art stuff). Also, can you add "Worker's Comp." after Medicare and before "and all PPO", we do see a lot of work related injuries. Thank You!

TWO LOCATIONSTO SERVE

fter much anticipa-tion, Bull Taco has opened its doors on El Camino Real in San Clemente’s

North Beach area. With three sister restaurants in Carlsbad, Cardiff by the Sea and at San Diego's Petco Park arena, this is its first foray into Orange County. Led by founder Greg Lukasiewicz, Bull Taco is charging full-steam

ahead with its unique concept of “Inauthentic Mexican.” This new location not only breaks the Mexican restaurant mold, it blows it to smithereens.

Bull Taco’s specials read like a National Geographic Magazine index—mi-nus the endangered species, of course. During my visit, the featured spe-cials ranged from the exotic to the more tame, including: Alligator, Elk, Wild Boar, Halibut, Ahi Poke and Ceviche. Bull Taco's fare takes a big leap from the Mexican food you may be accustomed to. Case in point: Sriracha, a staple in Thai cooking, is a key ingredient in many of the menu items.

In addition to having traditional chicken, pork and carne asada options, try steering toward the street tacos so you can sample different items from Bull Taco’s eclectic menu. The Lobster, Bacon, Chorizo Taco currently tops the list as most popular. I highly recommend the Breakfast Burrito, which received a nod in Sunset Magazine as a reader favorite. Need some heat? Dab or douse your grub with homemade salsas that span from “Mild” to “Ghost” (no bull... it might vaporize you).

Diners—if so inclined—can pull out a TV tray and eat in the Astro Turf-lined lounge area where the little ones can run wild. One fortunate guest will score the best seat in the house—a cozy upholstered chair directly facing a flat-screen TV. More traditional table seating is also available both inside and on the patio.

Open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Bull Taco offers beer and wine and serves up taco specials on Thursdays. Catering services cover everything from private events to large company parties, with convenient food pick-up/drop-off or on-site/off-site cooking. Pre-made or custom menus are available. Contact [email protected] to learn more.
