PRINCIPAL’S REPORT As we return for a new term, we welcome returning and new

students and families, and four Practicum Experience

students from the University of New England.

Our thanks go to students and staff who represented our

school in the Anzac March last Wednesday, 25 April. I was

proud to be present with Mr Hobbs and other members of

staff, witnessing students show a great deal of respect on

such a solemn occasion. All students participated in our

school Anzac service during a special assembly held this

morning. We thank Mr Andrew Simpson for his assistance

in helping organise our special guest, Major Prendergast, to

attend our assembly.

Teachers from sixteen schools across the Armidale

Community of Schools, and beyond, joined our staff in a day

of professional learning and collaboration last Monday at

Armidale City Public School. The theme of the day related

to creativity in learning, particularly in relation to science,

technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). A huge

thanks go to Mr Craig McGrath for his organisation,

supported by Mrs Maria Russell and other members of

staff.

Parents and carers are invited to attend our P&C meeting

this evening. The meeting will be held in the library from

6.30pm.

We are calling on all families to support our annual Mother’s

Day Fete on Saturday, 12 May. This day of fun is the major

fundraising opportunity for our P&C to support all students

in our wonderful school.

Our annual school cross country has been rescheduled from

this week to next Friday, 11 May. Information about the

change has been sent home separately.

As we have started a new school term, a great deal of

change has occurred to network areas within the

Department of Education. We welcome Mr Patrick

Cavanagh to Armidale as the Director, School Leadership

for schools in the Armidale Network. From the beginning of

this term, our school is a member of the Rural North

Operational Directorate.

I am excited to be appointed as Principal of Armidale City

Public School and look forward to getting to know students

and families as the year progresses. I hope to see some of

you at the sheep poo drive at Deeargee this Saturday and at

the fete the following week.
