March is here and we will be able to put our boats in late next month. Racing starts on the 10th of May so it’s time to really think about getting our boats in shipshape condition for the season.
March’s meeting with be at the club house on the 13th with the potluck starting at 6 pm and the General meeting beginning at 7 pm with the Board meeting to follow. Daylight Savings time starts on March 11th so we should have sunlight well past 6 pm. Please remember to bring out a dish for the potluck.
Our Regatta is coming up on May 19th and 20th and I hope that all you will make plans to come out and participate in our annual event. This is an all hands on deck event so plan to lend a hand in staging our Regatta. Please call Brigitte and vol-unteer to help out.
It’s well known that sailors are superstitious. I happened upon some of the common supersti-tions while browsing the internet and found sev-eral I didn’t know.
According to Boaterexam .com, bananas on board a ship are bad luck, as are women on board and whistling or singing into the wind. Curiously, the first Monday in April and the second Monday in August are not good days to sail. Fridays are also considered bad days for sailing. Sadly Thursdays, our racing nights, are also bad days for sailing. It is also important to note that sailors that hadn’t paid their debts were blamed for storms and other bad events aboard ship. So please don’t forget to pay your dues and slip fees. For more in-formation about sailors superstitions go the boaterexam.com and check out the thirteen sailor superstitions.
See you at the lake.

7:00 pm Membership Meeting
Board Meeting to follow
Hello, everyone. As Vice Commodore part of my job
is to increase membership. To do this, I’d really like
to find out what draws you to LYSA and what keeps
you here. I created a survey on a free website. It is
only two questions. They are;
1. What are the greatest benefits to being a LYSA
member?
2. What would you like to see LYSA do more?
Answering these questions, I feel, will give the board
a greater understanding of what we can do to both
improve the club for the people who are already
members as well as give some feedback for what we
can do to attract new members. Here is a link to the
survey.

Please take this survey. If you have trouble with it,
feel free to email me at [email protected]
with the subject line “LYSA”. Thanks in advance. I’ll
see you at the lake!

Race Captain
Debbie Harden
Hello from the Race Captain! There are two impor-tant Race events coming up!
The first one is our LYSA Annual Regatta. It is sched-uled for May 19 & 20. Because it helps so much with the planning, there is a substantial discount for sign-ing up before April 30th . If you are a racer please sup-port our club by participating in the event! You can serve… Serve on the race committee, serve on the food team, serve on the race committee, serve on getting the house ready for our guests, serve on clean up crew, or you can serve on the race commit-tee (See below). Did I mention you could serve on the Race Committee? LYSA is only as good as its participating members.
The second event is our Thursday night racing. The races usually start the Thursday after Opening Week-end, which will be May 10th this year. Be sure to plan now to be at the lake on Thursdays.
Races don’t happen without a Race Committee.
For the Regatta ( 2 days, 5 races) we could use quite a bit of help. Last year we had two people on the committee boat during every race for safety. We need a mark person, 2 flag people, a line watcher, a clock person, a finish person & 2 recorders for each race. That’s a MINIMUM of ten people! It would be nice to have a person taking start photos and finish photos to help with any disputes, too. So that is eleven bodies! Thursdays we get can get by with 5. But the more the merrier!
You don’t have to commit for the entire weekend! Pick a day! You don’t have to commit for every
Thursday, but how about two or three of them?
Training & support provided.

The Rag Doll owned and sailed by John Derby, is
looking for a good home. It sailed Lake Yosemite as
the "Ghost Ship" for several years before it was hit in
the bow by a jet ski. With the $2,500 from the insur-
ance the bow was repaired and new ribs were in-
stalled in the hull made of Black African Mahogany.
She is a solid boat but needs additional repairs.
