URWERK presents its iconic 103 with a steel case. But not just any steel case, the 103.08 is the world's first wristwatch treated

with TiAlN - Titanium Aluminum Nitride. The coating on the steel 103.08 is the hardest yet known in the world of haute

horlogerie. A TiAlN coating less than 4 microns thick has the effect of multiplying the resistance of the underlying metal to

scratches, shocks, oxidation and even acids. The 103.08 is lighter than its gold and platinum stable mates, yet much, much

harder.

Hardness comparison's figures:

Gold : 380Vickers

Steel : 600 Vickers

TiAlN coat : 3500 Vickers

Sapphire: 4000 Vickers

The slanting sides of the hour satellites ensure an unencumbered view of the time without turning the wrist. Bold SuperLumiNova provides excellent visibility by both day and night. High-tech grade 2 titanium is used extensively throughout the satellite complication. The grade 5 titanium Control Board on the back of the 103 was inspired by vintage marine chronometers which placed their more rarely used functional indications on the back of the timepiece. The Control Board is URWERK's contemporary interpretation of classical horology. The Control Board houses: the Chrono Meter with its dual 15 minute and seconds dial for maximum precision when setting of time; the 43 hour Power Reserve indicator; and the Fine Tuning screw which allows the user the possibility of adjusting the watch's timing +/- 30 seconds per day.

Page 23: The MagaLog of Luxury January 2010 Issue #2

“The MAN behind the Artist” Kern Brantley Beyonce, Ne-Yo, P Diddy, News Kids On The Block and Mary J. Bliige. What do these award winning artists have in

common? Kern Brantley!

The name Kern Brantley, may not ring a bell to you, but his musical genius is evident everywhere you turn. The Emmy

nominated Kern Brantley, has been the Musical Director for some of the hottest acts in the world! “Kelly Reports” takes

a closer look at the determination, drive, and thoughts of a man who not only keeps Detroit in the spotlight, but is taking

the world by storm, one musical note at a time.

Kelly Reports: You are a Musical Director, that’s not exactly a 9-5 job, how did you get to live out every musicians

dream and perform with some of the most famous acts?

Kern Brantley: By being blessed and being around some of the most talented musicians in the world. Most people are

naturally talented, it’s a gift. An arrangement (sometimes) just comes to you, even in your sleep. I have even dreamed

of arrangements before touching a keyboard.

KR: Who is Kern Brantley? And what is your definition of an artist?

KB: The artist is the person singing and I am the accompaniment to the artist.

Brantley grew up in Detroit, Michigan, in a house filled with music. He tells me, “my mom had 6 kids and adopted 4,

(she) brought a bunch of instruments, told everybody to “pickup something and play… somebody’s going to do

something” he says with a laugh. “As a kid I always wanted to impress my mother, always wanted to show off.”

Brantley plays bass, keyboard and guitar and says he has always looked up to Quincy Jones. In his eyes Jones is the

“all around musical person, to be able to create music, atmosphere and assemble, he has always surrounded self with

the best musicians in the world”.

Continue Next Page>>>

Page 24: The MagaLog of Luxury January 2010 Issue #2

As a kid, Kern Brantley knew he hit the musical jackpot when he jumped on stage at a school talent show and played

the Staple Sister’s classic “I’ll take you there,” on the guitar. Suddenly, all the girls wanted to be his girlfriends and the

boys that used to beat him up wanted to help carry his guitar. Brantley recalls thinking “I get girls and don’t get beat

up? This is alright!” Quite a feat for a kid who says he wasn’t really popular in school and just stayed home and

practiced his instruments.

So how did Brantley get from Detroit to the world stage? Jazz great, Earl Klugh heard the teenager playing at a

restaurant and invited Kern to audition at the renowned Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, in Detroit. The 18 year old says it

was a “dream come true” when Klugh invited him to perform in Japan with him.. and the rest as they say is history!

It’s not who Kern Brantley has worked with, it’s more like who hasn’t he worked with? His album credits include:

Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Destiny Child, P Diddy, Faith Evans, Mario Winans, 112, Brandy, Young Jeezy, Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly,

New Kids On The Block, Lil Wayne, (and many more.)

Brantley’s most memorable music industry moment was meeting Michael Jackson. Brantley was working with Teddy

Riley who introduced Michael Jackson to Brantley and the other musicians in an L.A. recording studio. Brantley recalls

shaking hands with musical great, calling the meeting “unreal.” Jackson would later watch the group perform at the

Greek Theater in L.A. Brantley says it was also there that Michael Jackson’s drummer gave him advice that would

forever stick with him: work very hard, stay humble and as versatile as possible and don’t limit yourself to one style of

music.

The next time you find yourself listening to a chart topping hit, are at a concert or hear an amazing arrangement behind your

favorite singer.. Chances are that’s the musical expertise of Kern Brantley!

RICH & FAMOUS (BILLIONAIRE

LIFESTYLE)

Continue Next Page

Jay-Z and Beyonce are living the Rich &

Famous lifestyle to the hilt! When they’re

apart, they communicate via Vertu cell

phones. These phones have worldwide

access and are priced at $73,000 each.

When they’re together, they fly around the

world in private jets or lounge on luxurious

yachts in the Mediterranean. They can be

seen in Monte Carlo, New York, Las Vegas

or Hollywood being chauffeured in Maybach

limousines (with curtains). Rumor has it that

Beyonce is currently in negotiations with

“Wynn,” to perform at a fee of nearly

$900,000 per week.

If they come to terms, during the length of

her tour, she will reside in an extraordinary

suite with marble floors, an intertwining

staircase and chandeliers. A private (glass)

elevator deposits you in the center of the living room. A private butler, chef, and

personal trainer will also be provided. And a

heated pool is located in

Page 33: The MagaLog of Luxury January 2010 Issue #2

the living room. These suites are not advertised to the public;

instead, they are reserved for high rollers (Whales), sports

figures, politicians and celebrities by a celebrity concierge. Jay-

Z also owns the Maybach Exelero (pictured right), priced at $8

million dollars.

When Beyonce goes on shopping excursions at Neiman

Marcus, Harrods or Bloomingdale’s, she usually buys Clive

Christian perfume, priced at $2,350 per ounce.

This fragrance is also a favorite of Rihanna, Mariah Carey and

Janet Jackson.

Kanye West and Amber Rose are also known for their extravagant

lifestyle. Kanye is also known for booking a private jet at the spur of

the moment for an European shopping spree.

When he qualified for the black American express card, the AMEX

rep found him at a private club celebrating his birthday. Needless to

say, Kanye signed for the card. Only 17,000 people in the world

have AMEX black cards.

Lionel Richie is perhaps the most powerfully

connected singer on the planet. Not only is he a

superstar entertainer but he’s also connected to

royalty in Dubai, Brunei and Abu Dhabi.

Royals and overseas politicians have been known

to pay a fortune (six-seven figures) to have Richie

perform at private functions. Richie also owns

property on Rodeo Drive and his publishing

catalogue (including tunes he wrote for Kenny

Rogers) is estimated at $100 million dollars. His

personal wealth is estimated at: $250 million

dollars. “

INDIA “A place you will never forget.”

"I personally love to travel this way, it’s the best way to see, smell and experience India up close and personal. I experienced the time of my life while in Mumbai, India; 5 Star Hotel, superb hospitality, culture, exquisite food and night life."

~ The most popular mode of travel in Mumbai; 3 wheel

My journey to Mumbai, India A look back En Route-Traveling to Mumbai was quite an experience! We departed Detroit, headed to New York and on to Amsterdam. It was an 18 hour flight. As we approached Mumbai International Airport, I saw a lot of land filled with people everywhere; not an empty space in sight! As I waited for my driver, I was amazed at the hundreds of taxi’s jockeying for position, hoping to gain my business. Picture a place with narrow streets packed with beautiful people, yet crowded land, filled with constant hustle and bustle and opportunities, galore. Accommodations-The Mumbai Hyatt Regency was my hotel of choice and when I say “first class”, I mean first class hospitality. Every staff member seemed to know my last name prior to my entering the hotel. This royalty like treatment extended well past my first day. Every employee seemed to know my name, each shift and asked how I was doing. Cuisine-The local food was the taste of a lifetime. Every day I had to order the Chicken Tikka dish. The seasoned shish kabob was always made to perfection; served with french fries, garlic dip and washed down with Kingfisher Beer, what a great combination! Navigation-Off to my next adventure in a land filled with folks doing their daily activities, I mean, I’ve been to New York City, but this place has at least a billion more folks traveling on bikes, motorcycles and in compact cars. The best, most efficient way to get around in Mumbai, India? A 3 wheel Rickshaw. This mode of transportation enabled motorists to navigate through tight lanes and massive traffic. It seemed as if everywhere I turned, during my travels in Mumbai, India, someone offered coffee or Bisleri bottled water. Hospitality-The same world class customer service and hospitality extended to me during my trip to India, is what I treat my visitors to, in my own home; offer them something, even if it’s my last. Night Life–Mumbai has some of the best clubs and most beautiful women I have ever seen in my life! Swanky martini bars with terrazzo throughout each club I attended. Super sexy clubs and ultra sexy people wearing India’s finest fabrics like cotton and linens that flow like the Indian Ocean, which was the uniform like attire, if you wanted to blend in with India’s “who’s who,” including Bollywood movie stars, (some even dancing right next to you.) The Taj Mahal Hotel night clubs are the night spots to be seen and get a peek at India’s ultra sexy and rub elbows with elite businessmen and women. After the sunset, we traveled to some cool coffee lounge spots, enjoyed more great food and appetizers that helped to cool us down. Amazingly, the café had a drive up service.

You and your passengers could have dinner on the trunk of your car! The waiter covers your trunk with a table cloth, delivers your order, giving you time to reflect on your visit and enjoy the delicious flavors and foods of the country. The Melting Pot-This atmosphere was like no other; people from Russia, China, Africa and other neighboring countries, all enjoying the scenery, food, fun and beauty of what India had to offer. Music-I was very surprised to hear American R&B/Hip Hop music being played from a land so far away from home. Beyonce’, P Diddy and Akon were in heavy rotation at each cafe we visited. The personal party guide kept our status first class at every club entrance, we entered. Table and bottle

services were as if we were celebrities ourselves. As we sat on the linen sofas gazing at the Indian Ocean, it almost seemed as if we were in a music video ourselves. Markets-My visit was more than attending "A-list" parties and eating gourmet cuisines. We also spent time in the exquisite market areas, finding: leather, fresh food, and spices I've never seen in my life. It does not get any fresher than buying your meat and have it cooked right in front of you. Refrigeration is not Mumbai at all, they have the supply and fry method, believe me, it’s a huge difference in taste. Next time you travel, consider India as a place to visit and even stay. I can assure you, it’s a place I will never forget and neither will you.

Louis Vuitton Designs for Infinity

At the Geneva Auto Show,

Infiniti presented their new

Essence sportscar. The

beautiful car does not only

impress with its design and its

600 HP hybrid engine, but also

with the details. As you can

imagine the trunk is pretty small

and therefore Infiniti

commissioned Louis Vuitton to

create a custom luggage

collection that fits perfectly into

the trunk.

The World’s Tallest Skyscraper, Dubai UAE

The world's tallest skyscraper formally opened January 4, 2010 in Dubai.

The Burj Khalifa is more than 160 storeys high, rising 828 metres into the

sky. The exact height of the new tower was kept under wraps by developer

Emaar Properties until the tower was opened by Dubai's ruler. The structure

is about 250 metres higher than Toronto's CN Tower. Thousands of

residents and tourists gathered around the base of the massive building for

its opening. The building is apparently named in honour of Sheik Khalifa

bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi and the president of the

United Arab Emirates.

$9 million US per floor

The building cost about $1.5 billion US to build, or about $9 million US per

floor. Apartments in the building sold for $1,900 US per square foot at their

peak, but prices have fallen by half in the wake of the financial woes that hit

Dubai. The city-state had to turn to Abu Dhabi for about $25 billion US in

bailouts last year to cover amassed debts of state-linked firms. While

developer Emaar Properties is partly government-owned, it is not known if

the firm got any bailout money.

"Crises come and go," said Emaar chairman Mohammad Alabbar in an

interview prior to the building's formal opening. "You have to move on.

Because if you stop taking decisions, you stop growing."

Alabbar said the building is about 90 per cent sold.

The Burj Khalifa is 828 metres tall and has more than 160 storeys,

the most of any building in the world. (Kamran Jebreili/Associated
