EDITORIAL

Martin Leitner (President DEMACLENKO)

DEMACLENKO’s move to their new head office in Vipiteno laid the per-fect foundation for further growth and new space for further pioneering innovations in the realm of snowmaking was created. In addition, the location combining LEITNER ropeways and PRINOTH establishes a center for winter sport technologies that is unique in the world. Still better connected together, we can combine our potential centrally as the HTI Group and offer tailormade overall plans to ski resorts.

Andreas Dorfmann, who was Director of DEMACLENKO from 2012, helped shape and significantly marked the unmistakable identity of DEMACLENKO. We therefore regret all the more that he has decided to retire as Director in 2020 in order to return to the Kronplatz skiing area. I would like, in the name of the group, to thank him for his tireless dedication, and we are delighted that he will assist the business in the transition phase.

I would like to welcome Andreas Lambacher as a new member of the executive board. Already very familiar with the industry and our group, we have found in him the perfect successor. Moreover, Philipp Oberhuber will direct with his future-orientated engagement in essential areas of the company, and DEMACLENKO will also retain Roland Demetz as a board member with his long years of experience as one of the pioneers in snowmaking. Together with our well motivated team and our high quality portfolio of products, we are convinced that we can continue our story of success and ambitiously promote growth.

2020 is a year of change. We want to look to the future with confidence and wish all our partners and staff all the best and much success for the new season.

Martin Leitner – PRESIDENT OF DEMACLENKO

HEADQUARTERS 04

DEMACLENKO MOVES TO NEW HEADQUARTERS IN VIPITENODEMACLENKO CONTINUES ITS EXPANSION WITH ITS MOVE TO A NEW HEAD OFFICE IN VIPITENO, IMMEDIATELY NEXT DOOR TO ITS SISTER COMPANIES LEITNER ROPEWAYS AND PRINOTH, THE TECHNOLOGICAL FRONTRUNNER IN SNOWMAKING IS ON A CLEAR COURSE FOR SUCCESS.

In order to rise to the increasing number of customer orders and capac-ity for further growth, DEMACLENKO, a company within the HTI Group, has switched its headquarters from Klausen to Vipiteno. Immediately next to its sister companies LEITNER Ropeways (rope-hauled transpor-tation systems) and PRINOTH (snow groomers), snowmaking facilities will also be developed projected, produced and sold in Vipiteno. The Group is thus laying the foundation for a unique centre of competen-

cies, in which it binds all its strengths together in one place and once again underlines its leading position as a unique complete facility for winter sport technology on the market.

The most important demand during the move was to be able to develop projects at the usual level of quality, and at the same time to keep production in motion and, in parallel with the transfer, organize the departments in Vipiteno. Thanks to far-sighted plan-ning this intention has gone to plan with no problems and there were no holdups. The new DEMACLENKO headquarters consists of a new office building, a production floor with its own weld-ing shop, a showroom and an extensive and partly roofed-over outer area with a special test stand, where the machines can be

HEADQUARTERS 05

Andreas Dorfmann, CEO of DEMACLENKO: “At the joint location, the concept of “Industry 4.0” is clearly recognizable and we can react better to requirements and opportunities of digitization. Thanks to the physical closeness and the most up-to-date working areas and the digitisation of production lines, the operations and processes within the group will be optimized and the other hand the ideal surroundings for the development of our fully automatic comprehensive solutions can be created. The result is the most efficient production runs and high quality products, which save resources and costs precisely for the purpose of sustainability. Our world-wide customers profit from this, in particular those whose demands can now be met more quickly and professionally.

thoroughly tested. The entire plant construction (pump stations, pits, etc.) and the production of EVO and EOS will be handled at Vipiteno, the TITAN and VENTUS will continue to be produced at the location in Telfs. In addition DEMACLENKO will increase its focus on the uncompromising quality of our offers: Everything that leaves the company - every installation, every machine, every single part - is 100% tested and approved. With our new location there will be a new, even higher standard of quality, which will guarantee the customers the most valuable products at the very highest standard of technology.

For DEMACLENKO the move as well as the merging of the two company locations of Chiusa and Selva, whereby joining resourc-

es, potential is even better employed and production rates are increased. Further, the research and development department remains stationed in Selva in Val Gardena, since that location is immediately next to the piste. For that reason it was decided to transfer the workshops to Vipiteno in order to create space in Val Gardena for development work. It is fundamentally important that the functionality and efficiency of the technologies developed there can be tested on site directly and rapidly. Thus we can ensure that DEMACLENKO will in the future be able to make available to customers the most efficient snow guns on the market.

NEW MANAGEMENT 06

The relocation to Vipiteno has been an important milestone on DEMACLENKO’s successful journey into the future; for me personally reaching this goal marks the end of my time in the HTI Group and now it is time for me to say goodbye.

When I took over the position of CEO at DEMACLENKO in 2012, it was my mission to merge the Demac and Lenko companies, to make the company internationally strong and to offer the market a genuine alternative with topnotch products and a highly motivated team. After difficult but highly successful eight years, I can see the fruits of our work in our relocation to the new head office in Vipiteno and may, with great satisfaction, regard my task as fulfilled. I will give the company the best possible support during the transition phase.

Thankful for many experiences and encounters I say goodbye, and look forward to returning to my “home mountain”, the Plan de

Corones ski resort. I have already been able to shape it positively in the past, and hope that I can carry on the success story.

I thank the DEMACLENKO team for their constructive and inex-haustible efforts in recent years and wish our partners all the best!

NEW MANAGEMENT 07

As of 1 July, Andreas Lambacher will manage the affairs of DEMACLENKO together with Philipp Oberhuber and Roland Demetz. He comes from South Tyrol/Italy and is not a newcomer to the industry: from 2001 to 2007 he worked as Sales and Marketing Manager at PRINOTH, there-fore has extensive experience in the area of winter sport technologies and is superbly acquainted with the HTI Group. During his career, Andreas Lambacher has focused on distribution and marketing with an international orientation. During many years abroad, where he held leading positions in Canada and Great Britain, he acquired comprehensive international experience, which will now greatly benefit the internationalization of DEMACLENKO. Also after my departure in 2007, I have followed the develop-ments of the HTI Group with great interest. The most impressive is the achievement in the last eight years in the area of snowmaking. I am all the more content to be part of this industry again and to be

allowed to help shape the future of DEMACLENKO.

Our foundation on successful activities should also further mould powerful and high quality solutions as well as our emphasis on automation and digitization. In times of uncertainty and change I would like to continue the focus on innovation and uncompromising customer orientation.

I look forward to the new challenge and am convinced that, with the highly motivated DEMACLENKO team, we can move forward successfully on the right path into the future.

WHEN MATURED KNOW-HOW MEETS HUNGER FOR PROGRESS AND THE SPIRIT OF PIONEERING, MAXIMUM RESULTS ARE THE LOGICAL OUTCOME: WITH THE NEW TITAN 4.0, DEMACLENKO PRESENTS THE SNOWMAKING MARKET WITH A SNOW GUN THAT FULFILLS ALL DESIRES IN EFFICIENCY, TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN AND RAISES EFFICIENCY TO A NEW LEVEL.

If all industry standards had already been burst with the VENTUS 4.0, with the TITAN 4.0 DEMACLENKO once again sets new levels in the snowmaking market. The design was developed, as was VENTUS 4.0, with the famous design studio Pininfarina. The leitmotif: the perfect symbiosis of uncompromising func-tionality and user friendliness with the best possible product design. This foundation was perfected with the new TITAN 4.0. That is, the TITAN 4.0 is not simply a functional object, but the best in its class, a product with a personality that stirs emotions.

UNBE ATABLE PERFORM ANCETITAN 4.0 captivates you with its maximal volume of 120 m3 per hour, a water flow of 12 l/s and a casting distance of over 80 m. Thus it is the most efficient snow gun on the market. Notably, it has been possible to reduce the total power consumption to a mere 23 kW. Altogether a notable increase in efficiency of at least 10% has been achieved as a result of the many improvements.

FORWARD -LOOK ING TECHNOLOGYThe increase in efficiency also brings about better performance at marginal temper-atures. Because of new geometry in the ventilator blades and a gentler compressor, the noise level has been reduced. TITAN 4.0 is equipped with the latest DLC 4.0 power electronic system, which guarantees the availability of all operating data and projective maintenance plans and diagnostics.

FUNC TIONAL DESIGNAs a result of clear and consistent management, it has been possible not only to refine the product, but at the same time to simplify it and make it more user friendly than its previous version. Quick couplings guarantee that the machine is easy to open and ensure easy access to the components. All parts that may need service are grouped in central places and are thus easy to control. Projecting parts and openings are reduced to a minimum.

OP TIM AL TR ANSPORT C APACIT YThe TITAN 4.0 strikes with its relatively light weight. Together with compact design, this is decisive above all for safe and simple transport by snow groomer, and also guarantees suitability for transport by helicopter even at great heights. Thanks to the newly conceived chassis the extendable stabilizing feet can be better adjusted, which makes safe and simple positioning of the snow gun on the terrain very much easier.

THE OBERSTDORF/KLEINWALSERTAL SKI REGION IN THE SOUTH BAVARIAN ALLGÄU OFFERS UNIQUE WINTER ADVENTURES ON ITS SEVEN PEAKS. ENORMOUS INVESTMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE IN MODERN TECHNOLOGY FOR A COMPREHENSIVE RANGE IN THE SKI RESORTS, WHERE YOU CAN PUT YOUR TRUST, PARTICULARLY ON THE SÖLLERECK, IN THE ACCUMULATED EXPERTISE OF THE HTI GROUP INCLUDING LEITNER ROPEWAYS, PRINOTH AND DEMACLENKO COMPANIES.

Apart from urban regions, Oberstdorf is the most visited year-round destination in Germany with over 4.6 million overnight stays throughout the year and is a favorite destination in summer and

winter. Söllereck has made its name as a mountain for families, which scores for its easy routes and ski runs, the Allgäu Coaster, Kletterwald and other attractions. Yet long queues for the chair-lifts, inefficient snowmaking, outdated infrastructure and a valley station that could be reached only on foot have recently hindered positive development. However, in order to create high-quality ex-periences, modern chairlifts, snowmaking and snow groomers are essential. Therefore a market study and a master plan were devel-oped in order to renew the infrastructure and at the same time satisfy the requirements of the property owners, EIA procedures and environmentalists. The comprehensive measures have now been carried out in four stages up to 2022.

HTI GROUP IN OBERSTDORF: MOST UP-TO-DATE TECHNOLOGIES FOR GERMANY’S WINTER HOTSPOT

Page 11: THE MAGAZINE FOR N°9 SNOW WORLD€¦ · 20 22 24 25 26. EDITORIAL 03 EDITORIAL Martin Leitner (President DEMACLENKO) DEMACLENKO’s move to their new head office in Vipiteno laid

HTI GROUP 11

Henrik Volpert, Director of the Oberstdorf Mountain Railway AG: “Because we were completely renewing the historic stock on the Söllereck, we were quite free in our choice of project partners. We opted for a logical overall plan with LEITNER ropeways, PRINOTH and DEMACLENKO. The reconstruction of the Nebelhornbahn is a flagship touristic project for the Allgäu. With the freshly developed 2S Railway we have found a perfect solution for the demanding route on the Nebelhorn.”

Already in 2019 the 50-year-old Schrattenwang drag lift was re-placed by a new 6-seater chairlift by LEITNER ropeways. The new Schrattenwangbahn is fitted with the Premium Chair EVO. New construction of the Söllereckbahn will follow in 2020, and will be in two sections. In addition, LEITNER ropeways has also received the award for the Wannenbahn and Höllwiesbahn chairlifts, which will be constructed in 2021 and 2022.

DEMACLENKO was also able to persuade through a tailor-made offer and was entrusted with comprehensive modernisation and extension of the snowmaking system. The Söllereck pistes lie at 1,000 to 1,500 meters in height and Christmas trade is particularly essential to the success of the entire financial year. Therefore it requires an extremely powerful system, which can supply the basic snow not in 72 but in 25 hours. Here DEMACLENKO submitted the most convincing concept in which performance and price stand in reasonable proportion. The fully automatic overall solution for one-hundred percent snow covering includes snow guns, pumping

stations, pits and infrastructure. In addition, a new reservoir was created. The decision of the management of Söllereck to work with DEMACLENKO was encouraged by the choice of the winter sports resort Sportstätten Oberstdorf, which is likewise equipped by DEMACLENKO for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2021. There also DEMACLENKO received the contract to broadly extend and modernize the existing snowmaking facilities in several stages. The work bears on plant engineering, electrical engineering and snow technology and envisages a fully automatic overall solution with new snow guns (TITAN 3.0, VENTUS 4.0), pump stations, pits and new infrastructure.

All ski resorts in this region have additionally relied for years on PRINOTH piste technology. Since last winter, three new LEITWOLF snow groomers have provided efficient piste preparation in the Oberstdorf/Kleinwalsertal region and a new HUSKY on the Söllereck with passenger transportation. The new HUSKY will be used as a shuttle between hotels and for mountain and valley journeys.

SUSTAINABLE SNOWMAKING THANKS TO LANCE TECHNOLOGYIN THE TASK OF BRINGING THE AVAILABLE LANCE SYSTEM TO STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY REGARDING CAPACITY AND EF-FICIENCY, THE CUSTOMER WAS VERY POSITIVELY SURPRISED. THEREBY THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE DEMACLENKO EOS LANCE WAS EXPRESSED, WHICH HAS ALSO BEEN AVAILABLE SINCE LAST SEASON IN A DOUBLE HEAD VERSION.

As a result of its geographical conditions (western orientation, sea levels starting at 1,400 m etc), Gargellen in the Montafon is already naturally blessed with abundant snow, but even here it is recognized that for the security of the start of the season efficient snowmaking is needed. The ski resort might have been made for lance technology on account of the breadth of the pistes and the wind conditions. A reservoir at 2,200 m supplies the snow water by natural pressure and this at an extraction temperature of 0.5 degrees Celsius, thus without any need to cool the water further. This ensures a particularly efficient snowmaking, which allows the snow team at the Gargellen mountain railways to fully develop

snow production especially at the marginal temperature range. “We can begin snowmaking from 1 November and when the basic snowmaking is finished, we will already be starting to dismantle the snow guns on the pistes from the middle of December,” says Thomas Lerch, Director of Gargellner Bergbahnen. Because they also want to offer skiers the highest optical quality. For this it is necessary, in ideal conditions, to develop a powerful system.

Thanks to the system, basic snowmaking is finished with 30,000 m³ water at the upper level (pumping area) of the ski resort. At the lower level (inherent pressure) likewise 30,000 m³ water is nec-essary for basic snowmaking. There will be further snowmaking in December and January according to requirements, before the snow guns here are moved to the depot. These requirements were one of the reasons why the current expansion was decided in fa-vor of DEMACLENKO. “The new lance is considerably lighter at 80 kg than comparable lances. Therefore it can be easily uninstalled and quite simply removed by two people, because there is no need for

tools,” snowmaking manager Julian Tschofen pointed out enthusiastically, since thereby garage storage is greatly simplified.

The snowmaking capabilities of the new lance did not merely convince, it amazed. It is extraordinary, “how far technology has developed in the meanwhile and at the same time been streamlined. The EOS 4 requires only one-third of the air of previous lances to attain the same quan-tity of snow.” This advantage reveals itself above all in the question of the central compressed air supply; with a lance system especially the basic technology, for great-er air pressure means greater costs, which are reduced, thanks to the new system. DEMACLENKO supplied alto-gether 83 EOS lances for the current expansion stage, of which five were in the double head version. In addition, six TITAN 3.0s, weather stations and visualisation of the system via SNOWVISUAL 4.0.

EOS DUO: EFFICIENCY TIMES 2

With the EOS DUO, DEMACLENKO presents its proven lance model in a powerful double head version. With an efficiency level of 180° the EOS DUO covers a large snow area and is ideal above all for punctual enhancement of individual pistes with suitable wind conditions. It unites the usual unbeatable energy efficiency of the EOS with a strong water flow of 9 l/s, which doubles the snow production.

PLOSE

PROJECTS 2019 14

The Plose ski area is part of the Dolomiti SuperSki association and forms the gateway to the Dolo-mites. Most of the pistes are indeed oriented to-wards the peaks of the distinctive mountain range and guarantees imposing views. The experience is perfectly framed by 40 diversified km of pistes, also among them the 9 km “Trametsch” downhill val-ley run. In order to enthuse visitors continually with the greatest comfort, in recent years wide-ranging investments have been made in technical snow-making. At the same time, local supply chains have been maintained and increased in value, since other business sectors benefit from tourism.

The technological leader DEMACLENKO was relied on as a partner in the overall project, together with the customer, to implement the sophisticated total concept in several stages. Work on the pumping stations and the new reservoir with a volumetric capacity of 63,000 m³ was particularly extensive. A completely new pump station was built, and

three others were re-built. Altogether they have a total capacity of 500 l/s at a total output of 3 MW. In order for the snowmaking to be as efficient as possible, 6 double cooling towers were installed which cool the water to the ideal temperature prior to output to the network. Altogether 67 km line materials were laid in order to link the 100 concrete pits and incorporate them into the sys-tem. 50 new snow guns (TITAN 3.0, VENTUS 4.0, EVO 3.0) supply high quality snow to the pistes and delight the snowmaking team on site above all by their service and the impressive ratio between ef-ficiency and consumption. In addition, last season the new TITAN 4.0 was used on site in a test op-eration. SNOWVISUAL 4.0 ensures fully automatic and efficient control of the snowmaking system, in which additionally another two pump stations and 50 snow guns from historic stock were easily integrated.

SKIING AREA PLOSE SNOW GUARANTEE THANKS TO SOPHISTICATED SNOWMAKING SOLUTIONONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS OF RECENT YEARS WAS COMPLETED BY DEMACLENKO AT THE PLOSE SKIING AREA IN THE SOUTH TYROL (IT). ALONG WITH MODERNIZATION OF THE EXISTING INFRA-STRUCTURE, THE SNOWMAKING SYSTEM WAS BROADLY EXTENDED IN ORDER TO SECURE CERTAINTY OF SNOW IN FUTURE AT THE SKI RESORT. AT THE START OF 2020 PLOSE WAS ALSO THE SETTING FOR THE NATIONAL DEMACLENKO CUSTOMER DAY, AT WHICH CUSTOMERS FROM THE WHOLE OF ITALY COULD GAIN AN IMPRESSION OF THE SYSTEM.

PROJECTS 2019 17

Of the total of 86 new snow guns - 43 Ventus 4.0, 26 Titan 3.0, 17 EOS - most were installed along the Saslong downhill with its noto-rious “Camel Humps.” A new pump station with a total capacity of 5 MW was erected immediately next to Socher’s top station. Spe-cial notes: The infrastructure on the pistes, which were installed 20 years ago (by Demac, in those days), was in perfect condition, and therefore did not need to be renewed. This included not only the pipes and cables, but also the fibreglass pits, which strikingly prove the outstanding quality and durability of the products.

Funivie Saslong’s investiture also brings a total guarantee of snow for the FIS world cup races, which take place every year just before Christmas. With its snowmaking facility, the company guarantees not only that the event can take place, but also ensures the high-est snow quality in maximum production quantities, even at up-

per temperature limits, thanks to the sophisticated technology of DEMACLENKO snow guns.

At the planning stage, even the system’s efficiency stood in par-ticular focus to ensure the most sustainable operation. The full potential of the DEMACLENKO visualization software Snowvisual was evolved for management and control of the fully automatic snowmaking equipment. It combined the individual components into a single effective system that produces the maximum result, conserves resources and is economical. Thanks to informative statistics and data analysis, the stages in snowmaking could be understood in detail at a later date. This obtains the perfect basis for further improvement of the snowmaking process.

PIZ SELLA

AT THE START OF THE WINTER SEASON LAST DECEMBER, AS A MARK OF MANY YEARS OF PARTNERSHIP, A VENTUS 4.0 WITH SPECIAL BRANDING WAS PRESENTED TO THE PIZ SELLA COMPANY.

It annually marks an important goal, which is always attained in the summer in the DEMACLENKO workshops: the 1,000th snow gun made in the production year. In 2019 the snow gun went to the ski resort of Piz Sella with exclusive customer branding and was received by its Director Igor Marzola at the Emilio-Comici-Hut in Gardena.

“I am very happy that we have met together on this special occasion in the Piz Sella Ski Resort, and we are honored that this special snow gun is in use on our pistes,” said Igor Marzola. The VENTUS 4.0 in the Pininfarina Design is well known on the snowmaking market for its outstanding snow quality and its unbeatable relationship between consumption and output. In the Piz Sella resort you find in addition the accumulated expertise of the HTI Group: along

with DEMACLENKO, the products of the sister companies LEITNER ropeways (rope-hauled transportation systems), and PRINOTH (snow groomers) are also in operation - likewise with individual customer branding.

Andreas Dorfmann, CEO of DEMACLENKO, stressed that: “With Piz Sella we are bound into a long-term partnership and this is the way in which we express our recognition. In addition this presentation also stands for gratitude to all our partner ski resorts, who for many years have worked with us and relied on our brand.”

The Piz Sella Ski Resort has at its disposal a fully automatic DEMACLENKO snowmaking system, which has been extended again and again over the years. There are altogether 128 snow guns in operation. The heart of the system is an inclusive 2.7 MW pump station (345 l/s). The system is controlled via SNOWVISUAL 4.0.

LES CARROZ

ORCIÈRES MERLETTE

LES CARROZIN THE LES CARROZ SKI RESORT LAST SEASON IT WAS IMPRESSIVELY DEMONSTRATED THAT THE DEMACLENKO SOLUTIONS STAND FOR ABSOLUTE COMPATIBILITY AND ARE MADE AND IMPLEMENTED TO MEASURE.

In the search for a snow gun that unites performance and efficiency to perfection, the operators were particularly drawn to the TITAN by DEMACLENKO. After the machine had been tested for a whole season, everyone was so im-pressed by its performance and easy handling, that eight TITAN 3.0s were purchased. The uncomplicated opera-tion of the SNOWVISUAL software brought considerable reduction in work. Integration into the existing system took place with no problems and proved that DEMACLENKO products can be combined 100% with the systems of other manufacturers. Further large-scale investments are planned in the future in Les Carroz, in which, on ac-count of very positive experiences, DEMACLENKO will be immediately taken into account.

ORCIÈRES MERLETTEDEMACLENKO HAS ALREADY BEEN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ORCIÈRES MERLETTE FOR MANY YEARS IN AN OUTSTAND-ING PARTNERSHIP. ALTOGETHER 57 FAN GUNS (TITAN AND EVO) HAVE BEEN IN USE AT THE SKI RESORT AND EACH YEAR PROVIDE A PUNCTUAL START TO THE SEASON.

In 2018, a new pump station was erected, in 2019 an already existing one was brought to state-of-the-art technology. The total output of the two stations amounts to 350 kW at a maximum water flow rate of 83 l/s. For the overall supply of the snow guns, 44 concrete pits were installed. As a new control system for the snowmaking facility, the operators rely on SNOWVISUAL 4.0 by DEMACLENKO. With its many useful tools, it offers the snowmaking team and manage-ment the perfect support for supervision and control of the system. Part of the historic stock was already integrated, during 2020 the integration of all the still outstanding com-ponents will be completed.

LES GETS

PROJECTS 2019 21

Les Gets was mainly known for its agriculture until well into the 20th century. Meanwhile, the village, thanks to its closeness to Morzine, has developed into a summer and winter sport region with many tourist facilities. The slopes either side of the Col des Gets have been opened up by cableways and ski lifts. Thus Les Gets forms the south western part of the large winter sport resort Portes du Soleil, which stretches over the border, and is a member of the “Alpine Pearls” Association for green tourism. Since the snow conditions, even in the French Alps, became increasingly uncertain at the start of the season, the operators decided to invest broadly in technical snowmaking.

DEMACLENKO therefore supplied a ready to use turnkey concept in order to efficiently extend the existing conditions at strategic points. The work was subject to strict environmental constraints and was carried out judiciously in order to reduce the effect on the terrain to a minimum. In addition, close attention was paid during the construction of the new reservoir to compromise local flora and fauna as little as possible. As a result of the com-

prehensive measures, 50% of the pistes can now be covered in snow, and a punctual start to the season ensured. Above all, this is a guarantee of quality for the winter visitors, for whom the assur-ance of snow is the most important consideration in their choice of holiday destination.

Approximately 100 new snow guns and a new pumping station form the core of the major pro-ject in Les Gets. The 33 Titan X 3.0 fan guns and the 54 EOS lances were installed mainly on the Tulipe, Stade Ranfoilly, Reine des Prés and Eglan-tine pistes. The new pump station with a total capacity of 2.5 MW supplies 1,200 m3 water per hour at 40 bar. Altogether about 14 km line ma-terials were laid and 97 concrete ducts installed. Fully automatic and frictionless control of the sys-tem was guaranteed by the Snowvisual 4.0 visu-alization software, which, in addition, enabled a very resource-saving operation, since the process could be continually optimized thanks to precise data analysis.

SNOW GUARANTEED FOR LES GETSTHE DEMACLENKO TEAM FRANCE LOOKS BACK ON AN INTENSIVE AND SUCCESSFUL YEAR. THE BIGGEST PROJECT WAS IN CONNECTION WITH THE SKI RESORT LES GETS, WHERE THEY INVESTED EXTENSIVELY IN THE MODERNIZATION AND EXTENSION OF THE RESORT. A CONSIDERABLE COMPONENT WAS CON-CERNED WITH AN INCREASE IN TECHNICAL SNOWMAKING AS WELL AS EXTENSION AND OPTIMIZATION OF THE PISTES.

STRANDA

GEILO

PROJECTS 2019 22

DEMACLENKO STANDS OUT IN THE HIGH NORTHTRADITIONALLY NORTHERN EUROPE HAS BEEN ONE OF THE FOREMOST REGIONS FOR SNOWMAKING AND THE SKI RESORTS HAVE RELIED FOR A LONG TIME ON TECHNICAL SNOW IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO OFFER VISITORS THE BEST POSSIBLE PISTE CONDITIONS. IT IS NO WONDER, THEREFORE, THAT DEMACLENKO’S PRODUCTS AND FACILITIES FIND GREAT APPEAL.

On account of the increasing number of winters with uncertain snow and periods of ideal snowmaking temperatures becoming shorter, ski resorts need facilities that can supply maximum results in the short-est time. In this situation, DEMACLENKO offers the complete range with its broad palette of products, since these have consequently been optimized in the course of years regarding efficiency and perfor-mance in marginal temperatures. Proof of success is revealed by the number of contracts, of which there were particularly many in Scandinavia in 2019. The two largest projects were implemented in the ski resorts of Stranda and Geilo in Norway.

PROJECTS 2019 23

STRANDAThe Stranda ski resort lies in the Sunnmøre Alps in the west-ern region of Norway. Seven lifts, 17 slopes at various levels of difficulty, a children’s area, a terrain park and the perhaps best off-piste possibilities in Scandinavia, offer something for every taste. A highlight, which the visitor can experience on the visit, is the breathtaking view on the surrounding landscape of Fjords. In addition, there are 15 km of ski runs for cross-country fans, and almost unlimited possibilities for expeditions.

In order to make the start of the season as independent as possible of natural snow conditions, technical snow facilities have been relied on for many years in Stranda. Therefore, extensive construction work was undertaken in 2019. The choice of a competent partner fell on DEMACLENKO. Within the total project, two pump stations were built with a water output of 220 l/s at an overall performance of 550 kW. In addition, around 11 km field pipelines were laid and 24 con-crete pits set. To ensure snow covering at all points 18 mobile TITAN 3.0 fan guns were purchased and a further one on an inclined elevator. The fully automatic and efficient supervi-sion of snowmaking is ensured by DEMACLENKO SNOWVISUAL 4.0 visualization software.

GEILOGeilo is one of the oldest ski resorts in Norway and lies between Oslo and Bergen. Around 40 pistes and a total of four terrain parks await winter enthusiasts. Together with LEITNER ropeways and PRINOTH, modernization of the highly traditional resort will be carried out in successive years. In order to maintain piste standards, technical snowmaking has to be relied upon above all at the start of the season. Therefore in the past year two pump stations were built with a total delivery volume of 160 l/s at 530 kW overall performance and eight kilo-metres of line materials were laid. 20 new snow guns (VENTUS 4.0, TITAN 3.0 and EOS) and 16 concrete pits were installed on the pistes. The finishing touch for a fully automatic overall solution is the SNOWVISUAL 4.0 supervision software.

LAS LEÑASEL COLORADO

PROJECTS 2019 24

DEMACLENKO BRINGS WINTER TO SOUTH AMERICAEVEN SKI RESORTS IN THE ANDES IN SOUTH AMERICA, ONE OF THE HIGHEST CHAINS OF MOUNTAINS IN THE WORLD, IN RECENT YEARS HAVE AWAITED NATURAL SNOW, PARTICULARLY AT THE START OF THE SEASON. THEREFORE, MORE AND MORE HAS BEEN INVESTED IN EFFICIENT SNOWMAKING FACILITIES, WHEREBY PEOPLE RELY ON SUSTAINABLE AND POWERFUL SOLUTIONS BY DEMACLENKO.

Whenever ski resorts in the northern hemisphere equip themselves for the summer season, all prepa-rations are being made south of the equator for the next winter season. Since in many places, how-ever, not enough natural snow falls, above all for a punctual season start, technical snowmaking is employed in order to guarantee winter sportspeople absolute certainty of snow. It is the same even in the South American Andes, where the mature total solutions of DEMACLENKO are therefore becoming more strongly established.

PROJECTS 2019 25

LAS LEÑASDEMACLENKO’s cooperation with Las Leñas, which is likewise among the largest winter sports centers on the South American continent, began as early as 2015. Since then, continual optimization of the snow making facilities has been carried out. The pumping station was enlarged and automated so that the total capacity was raised to 110 l/s. In addition new pits were added, the infrastructure renewed and new fully automatic snow guns (TITAN, EOS) were purchased.

“The fan guns and lances have been highly successful and we were able to increase production significantly. Also the renew-al of the pipes had a positive effect on the quantities of snow, as we could run the facility at higher pressure,” Lucio Toledo, snowmaking manager in Las Leñas, was pleased to say. “In addition we can plan the snowmaking activities much more efficiently. Above all the fully automatic control is significant,” said Toledo, because the advantages of DEMACLENKO super-vision software SNOWVISUAL 4.0 fill one with enthusiasm. “Operating SNOWVISUAL 4.0 is very straightforward. It delivers very detailed and valuable statistics and analysis concerning system operation. The recording of meteorological information is also very interesting, since we can understand from it pre-cisely how variable the temperatures can be at different points in the ski resort. From this we gain sound basics for planning future seasons and new projects.”

EL COLORADOThe Chilean ski resort El Colorado is only 36 km from the capital Santiago and started up in 1935. The goal then was to construct a winter sport area close to the capital city. In order to counter the uncertain snow conditions at the start of the season, extensive investment was made in technical snowmaking. The major order included in-stallation of a new pumping station (total output 48 l/s) including field pipelines and 14 surface tapping points). Eight powerful TITAN fan guns provide snowmaking for the pistes, the water for the snowmaking facilities arrives from the 20,000 m3 reservoir. The complete package is rounded off by full automation of the system by the su-pervision software SNOWVISUAL 4.0.

DEMÄNOVÁ

PROJECT IN DEMÄNOVÁ IN RECORD TIMEWITH A POWERFUL OVERALL CONCEPT IN THE DEMÄNOVÁ SKI RE-SORT IN SLOVAKIA, DEMACLENKO PROVES THAT THE COMPANY IS NOW GAINING AN EVER STRONGER FOOTHOLD IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE, AND ITS PRODUCTS AND SERVICES PERFORM SUCCESSFULLY ON THE MARKET.

Since the end of 2018 DEMACLENKO has been spreading fast in-cluding Central and Eastern Europe with its own branch in Bielsko Biała. The well-functioning and professional team rapidly held its own on the market, created its own success and developed impor-tant projects. Thus, for example, with the Demänová Village ski resort in Slovakia, where in a record time of less than two months a turnkey overall solution was implemented.

Demänová Village is a completely new ski and wellness resort close to the mountain range of the Lower Tatra in Slovakia. The focus of the resort is on family offers and sustainable tourism. In order to secure snow safety on the ski pistes and cross-country ski runs it required an individually customized snowmaking facility, where it was decided to employ the know-how of DEMACLENKO. The heart of the new snowmaking facility is the new pump station

with an output of 25 l/s. The total quantity of water is cooled by a system to the ideal temperature in order to raise the efficiency of the facility. In order to secure a comprehensive snow covering, five mobile TITAN 3.0 and VENTUS 4.0 fan guns and an EOS snow lance, 17 pits and around four kilometres of line material were in-stalled. Thus the snow guns can be connected to the snowmaking facility at various points in the ski resort.

With the aid of SNOWVISUAL 4.0 the facility can be controlled fully automatically, which has a positive effect on resource man-agement and efficiency, as the work stages and snow windows can be better planned. “Using SNOWVISUAL 4.0 makes our work flow significantly easier!” enthused Martin Štric, Proprietor of the resort. “Thanks to the detailed statistics of the snowmaking process we always have a perfect view of all components and the operat-ing status of the facility.” In addition, he was delighted by the con-structive partnership with DEMACLENKO. “Working together with DEMACLENKO was always positive and professional. Technical snow-making is essential for us, since natural snowfall is very uncertain. Thanks to DEMACLENKO we now have a reliable facility and can offer our visitors the best possible snow conditions.”

PROJECT IN DEMÄNOVÁ IN RECORD TIME

WITH SNOW4EVER, DEMACLENKO EXTENDED THEIR BROAD PRODUCT RANGE IN 2017 WITH A FURTHER INNOVATION IN ORDER TO INTRODUCE NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO THE INDUSTRY. SINCE THEN THERE HAS CONSE-QUENTLY BEEN WORK ON THE EXPANSION OF FIELDS OF APPLICATION AND FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF THE TECHNOLOGY, SO THAT, AMONGST OTHER THINGS, THE PROJECT SNOW RESOLUTION COULD BE UNVEILED IN 2019 IN CAVALESE (IT).

Snow4Ever is DEMACLENKO’s answer to the demand for snowmaking solu-tions at temperatures above zero. This special type of technical snowmaking is made possible by scientific innovation in the system interior, in which genu-ine snowflakes are created by crystallisation independent of outdoor temper-ature and without chemical additives The technology is continually refined and new fields of application are sought, where even the sustainability of technical snow stands strongly in focus.

As a result, in the course of the EU research project SnowRESolution, an in-stallation was built in Cavalese which uses trigeneration (combining pow-er, heat and refrigeration) in order to produce at the same time and with very great efficiency electrical energy, power for heating and refrigeration energy for snow production. In addition, the technical snowmaking facility “Snow4Ever Thermal” was designed and built at the headquarters of the dis-trict heating plant BioEnergia Fiemme in Cavalese. The district heating plant burns wood chips and produces electrical energy and local heating, at the same time Snow4Ever receives the energy from the residual heat (in the form of water vapour) from the emissions from the plant and uses it to produce snow. The woodships come from the trees of the woodlands destroyed in Storm Vaia at the end of October 2018.

SNOW4EVER BRINGS SNOW TO MILANParticipants were amazed at the press conference to see Snow4Ever at the start of the Dolomiti Superski season. At the beginning of November 2019, the ski resort had invited press representatives from all over Italy to the Milano sports centre in Milan. In double-figure temperatures above zero the technological leader DEMACLENKO amazed those present, among them ski legend Kristian Ghedina, with a white carpet of snow.

The interest in Snow4Ever and the project’s previous success proves that the fields of application are becoming increasingly versatile. Along with securing low lying ski resorts, this groundbreaking technology is also more and more used in sports events and indeed events of any kind.
