AGM - New President
At the Club’s AGM held on 8th February Ruth Fitzpatrick is elected to the role of Club President. Ruth is the 2nd lady
President run the club with Elaine Beller having led the club in 1992 and 1993.
The NSW LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS held at SOPAC 4-5th April. 24 Manly swimmers took to the pool and managed to finish
3rd on overall points and 6th on the average points score.
The team that took to the pool: Carolyn Samojlowicz, Katherine Woodburn, Katherine Ahern-Sharpe, Karen Battersby, Dawn
Gledhill, Jan Bradshaw, Carol Mitchell, Mary Woodward, Marie Taylor, Ruth Fitzpatrick, Suzanne Johns, Virginia Macleod,
Susan Anderson, Kaye Beer, Agnete England, Marion Robertson, Barbara Vickers-Baker, Matthew Mortimer, Lindsay Brice,
Stephen Lamy, Ted Samojlowicz, Ian Sharp, Raymond Watson, Tony Goodwin.
Stephen Lamy, broke an 18 year old Australian record in the 100m Backstroke event.
Age Group Placings went to: Marion Robertson (75-79Yrs) 1st; Dawn Gledhill (60-64Yrs) and
Stephen Lamy, (65-69Yrs) 2nd; and Carolyn Samojlowicz (35-39Yrs), Katherine Ahern-Sharpe
(50-54Yrs), Barbara Vickers-Baker, (85-89Yrs) and Raymond Watson (75-79Yrs) 3rd.

Mixed 240+ 4x50m Medley, [Stephen Lamy, Matthew Mortimer, Dawn Gledhill, Kaye Beer]
Mixed 200+ 4x50m Medley, [Carol Mitchell, Marion Robertson, Tony Goodwin, Ian Sharp]
Mixed 280+ 4x50m Freestyle, [Ian Sharp, Kaye Beer, Jan Bradshaw, Tony Goodwin]
The team swam a total of 95 individual events finishing in the top 3 places in 63 of those, with 24 1st’s (25%), 29 2nd’s (31%) and 10
3rds (11%)
Charity Swim
Manly Masters in partnership with “Manly Friends of Oecusse”
and Manly Council conduct a fund raising swim at the Boy Charlton
Pool in Manly on Sunday 23rd February.
18 Masters swimmers and a few members of the public, including
several young children take to the water and swim varying dis-
tances in order to raise funds for the cause.

39th NATIONAL MASTERS SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS held 23rd—27th April in Rockhampton

Four Manly swimmers compete:

Carol Mitchell (60-64Yrs): Backstroke, 50m - 1st, 100m - 1st 200m - 2nd; Freestyle, 200m - 5th,
400m - 5th, 800m - 7th; Individual Medley, 200m - 6th.
Dawn Gledhill (60-64Yrs): Backstroke, 100m - 2nd; Breaststroke, 100m - 5th; Butterfly, 50m - 1st,
100m - 1st, 200m - 1st; Freestyle, 50m - 5th; Individual Medley, 200m - 2nd, 400m - 3rd.
Mary Woodward (60-64Yrs): Backstroke, 50m - 11th; Freestyle, 50m - 16th 100m - 14th, 200m - 15th, 400m - 14th, 800m
- 13th.
Kaye Beer (70-74Yrs): Backstroke, 50m - 10th; Freestyle, 50m - 2nd 100m - 3rd, 200m - 5th, 400m - 6th.
NSW RELAY MEET 20th July at SOPAC Homebush.
Events consisted of 4x25m; 4x50 and 4x100m Freestyle and Medley swims for Wom-
en’s, Men’s and Mixed Teams.
Manly’s team of 23 swimmers field 27 relay combination and finish in 6th place on the
overall points score.

15th FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS commenced at the Parc Jean Drapeau, Swimming centre in Montreal,
Canada 9th August.
The 3 kilometre Open Water event was held on the 9th August saw 4 Manly
club members take to the water: Karen Battersby (50-54Yrs) - 65th, Mary
Woodward (60-64Yrs) - DNF (Cramp), Marion Dryer (65-69Yrs) - 27th, Peter
Rawling (65-69Yrs) - 28th.
The ladies formed two relay teams and finished:
Women’s 4x50m Freestyle (240-279Yrs) [Marilyn Earp, Jan Bradshaw, Dawn Gledhill, Kaye Beer] - 8th.
Women’s 4x50m Medley (240-279Yrs) [Jan Bradshaw, Marilyn Earp, Dawn Gledhill, Kaye Beer] - 6th.
Individual results were:
Kaye Beer ( 70-74Yrs) Freestyle: 50m - 1st (NSW Record}, 100m - 5th, 200m - 6th, 400m - 3rd.
Steve Lamy (65-69Yrs) Backstroke: 50m - 3rd (NSW Record) , 100m - 1st (National Record), 200m - 5th; Freestyle, 100m
- 9th; Individual Medley, 200m - 7th.
Marilyn Earp (60-64Yrs) Backstroke: 100m - 8th; Butterfly, 50m - 10th.
Dawn Gledhill (60-64Yrs) Butterfly: 50m—24th, 100m - 15th,200m - 10th.
Pamela Rawling (65-69yrs) Freestyle: 50m - 42nd, 200m - 29th, 400m - 25th; Backstroke, 200m - 23rd; Butterfly, 50m -
25th.
Sue Anderson (65-69Yrs) Freestyle: 200m - 37th
Tony Goodwin (75-79 Yrs) Swam for the Victorian Malvern Marlins club and won the 50m, 100m and 200m Breastroke;
was 3rd in the 50m and 2nd in the 100m Butterfly events. He also swam and won in two relay events.

NSW SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIP held 18-19 October Woy Woy. The 23 strong Manly team of :
Carolyn Samojlowicz (1st in age group), Patricia Cretin, Katherine Ahern-Sharpe, Sonja Walters, Dawn Gledhill, Marie Taylor,
Mary Woodward, Pamela Rawling, Sue Johns, Ruth Fitzpatrick, Robyn Hoare, Annie Gurton, Marion Robertson, Gloria Old-field, Francesco Romani, Vincent Squillace, Lindsay Brice, Steve Lamy, Ted Samojlowicz, Peter Rawling, Ian Sharp, Tony Goodwin (1st in age group), and Ray Watson, finish 2nd in the over-all points score and win the Gordon Couzins Trophy for the highest points gained by the relay teams.
OPEN WATER SWIMS - Throughout the year member took part in a number of ocean swims as a change up from swim-
ming in the pool.

Dawn Gledhill and spouse Peter, Ruth Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Samojlowicz, Peter and Pam
Rawling, Sue Millar, Mary Woodward, Karen Battersby and Lynette Coutts went to Hamilton
Island to enjoy a weekend away and take part in the Ocean Swim. It was a mix of pleas-
ure, sight-seeing and a little swim in some fairly unusual rough conditions. Dawn
Gledhill won her age group and Lynette Coutts finished 2nd in hers.
LONG DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS held 16th November at Blacktown. Manly has a team of 9 swimmers and finish equal
1st on over points score.
Four swimmers win their age group, Jan Bradshaw (400m Backstroke 1st, 400m Freestyle 1st), Dale Moore (400m Back-
stroke 1st, 1500m Freestyle 2nd), Steve Lamy (400m Backstroke 1st, 800m Backstroke 1st), Ray Watson (400m Breast-
stroke 1st, 800m Breaststroke 1st).
Katherine Ahern-Sharpe (400m Backstroke 1st, 800m Backstroke 2nd), Annie Gurton (400m Backstroke 2nd, 400m Free-
style 2nd) Marie Taylor (400m Backstroke 2nd, 1500m Freestyle 2nd), finish 3rd in their age group
Lindsay Brice (400m Breaststroke 10th, 1500m Freestyle 7th) - finished 4th in age group and Vince Squillace (400m
Breaststroke 2nd, 1500m Freestyle 3rd) - finished 5th in age group.

Kaye Winton, showed her sporting versatility, running in the Annual Sydney to Bondi “City to
Surf” classis raising funds for charity.

Members assisted in fund raising activity, running a BBQ at the Bunnings Balgowlah.
The Brookvale TAFE Catering School was the setting for an enjoyable dinner for a number of members.
