AREA GUIDE LOCAL AREA INTRODUCTION

The archipelago of the Dodecanese Islands can be found in the south east of the Aegean

Sea and it’s popular for impressive landscapes, fascinating history and UNESCO World

Heritage sites.

Known as the sunniest part of Greece, you can sail the 163 islands and islets in the

Dodecanese from our base in Rhodes.

The island of Rhodes is the largest and most historically significant in the chain. Our base

is located in Rhodes Marina, a short distance from Rhodes’ old town, the oldest inhabited

medieval town in Europe. You can explore its walls, windmills, Palace of the Grand Master

of the Knights, St Anthony’s Gate, Gate of Amboise, Hippocrates Square, clock tower,

archaeological museum and impressive towers that fringe the waterfront.

To sail in Rhodes, you will need a sailing license that is recognized by the local port

authorities, or you can hire a skipper.

TOP THINGS TO DO IN RHODES:

1. Visit the Medieval City of Rhodes: There are so many things to do in Rhodes, but

you won’t have fully experienced Rhodes until you’ve explored within the walled

city of the old town, otherwise known as Medieval City. Stroll the quaint streets

and indulge in some shopping and dining in this UNESCO World Heritage city.

2. See the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes: Housed in a monument building

that was originally constructed as a Hospital of the Knights of St. John, t. This

fascinating museum is packed with sculptures and relics, giving a glimpse of

ancient Rhodes ranging from over 7000 years ago. Make sure you pay a visit

during your yacht charter in Rhodes.

3. Tour the Valley of the Butterflies: Petaloudes, just up from the coast for our

base, is better known as the Valley of the Butterflies. Visit between June and

August when millions of the multicolored insects converge, drawn by the scent of

storax trees resin found here.

4. Visit the Palace of the Grand Master: While in the old town of Rhodes, take some

time to stroll through the palace and surrounding moat with amazing views. The

halls have exquisite mosaic floors, paintings artifacts and more.

5. Climb to the Acropolis of Lindos: High atop the rocky cliffs above Lindos, sits the

ancient remains of the temple to Athena Lindia. The towering stark white columns

are a dazzling contrast against the stunning long-range sea views, and are certainly

worth a visit if you’re sailing Rhodes.

From Rhodes, Sail to Simi Town and take in its pastel-colored classical architecture along

the water. The sands at Nos are close to the main port, while Panormitis beach is less

touristy. To shelter from winds, head to Emporio cove.

During your yacht charter in Rhodes, take some time to relax at Tilos Island’s Livadia port

and enjoy an ice-cold coffee in the bars or dine at the tavernas. Visit Kryas Springs or head

inland to look around an abandoned village. Enjoy the secluded beach at Agios Antonios

Marina, but watch the rocks, or swim in the clear water at Eristos.

Enjoy a cool drink at Nimporio’s waterfront on Halki (Chalki Island), where you’ll be met

with a warm welcome. Find a gently shelving beach with free sunbeds at Kania Beach,

shallow waters at Pondamos and a rocky coastline for snorkeling at Ftenagia. Try Yiali

beach – accessible only by boat – for a bit of isolation. WEATHER
